Ryuzo was almost like the ghost but to the extremes. He did what he had to do, he just took it a step further and became the enemy.

Nailed it. I think it was to Jin's benefit that Ryuzo turned out the way he did, because it showed Jin what would happen if he took it too far.

I love this essay, and all the others you've made. Ryuzo is such an interesting character. I've always wanted to know more about the nature of his and Jin's friendship before the tournament, but I also like the game leaves us to come up with our own thoughts and assumptions.

I always thought that Ryuzo had envy and low self esteem. Jin was a person who wanted and did believe in the best of people and it made him blind to the clues Ryuzo was giving out about him being unhappy. Sadly, I'm like the Jin character, helping out "friends". Spent time helping them, giving money when they were in a bind. And in the end, being betrayed by them. All because they felt powerful when the opportunity arose, to be "better" than me. So I get the Ryuzo character and Jin. The part when they meet up one last time and Jin strides forward to confront Ryuzo - only to back down when Ryuzo steps forward - was the idea of both actors. The scene wasn't working until then and I think it was perfect. Jin has anger towards Ryuzo, but when Ryuzo continues to talk instead of fight, Jin's still good heart wants to give Ryuzo a way to redeem himself so to speak. He offers him a chance to surrender. This scene and the confrontation with Lord Shimura, are my favorites.

Would you consider doing one of these on Tenzo from Iki Island?? I actually liked him a lot. The line "He came here to murder us, what did you expect??" always made me want to see this kind of analysis on him.

If GoT was made by Square Enix: Ryuzo would’ve been brought around by Jin. If GoT were made by From Software: There’d be much more to Ryuzos story to find out there, that would go deeper into why he did what he did.

Ryuzo has a weak character, full of jealousy and resentment. Instead of creating a future for himself, he too has stuck in the past and blames everything that happens to him on others. The choices he made turned against him and he knew it, but it was easier to blame Jin. It's cowardly and petty. The lowest thing you can do is betrayal, it says a lot about your character when you lower yourself to betrayal.
