Jin released this on his birthday he included a letter explaining the meaning. Jin has admitted to falling into depression often for years so the few times he allows people to see that side of him, its in his music. That's why he's always joyful, friendly, upbeat when you see him on camera but his songs are usually softer, quieter, mellow, and almost like he's confiding in us. He doesn't like showing sadness to his fans or his family, though if you hear from his loved ones- they usually all say that when he's not being an 'idol' or in front of cameras, he's a very quiet and serious person- most Armys dont realize this and I think Jin prefers it that way and has even said this (he also said his style of dress is 'just not wanting to be bothered, wanting to be left alone'. Jins letter he gave with the song "Abyss": "Hello, this is Jin. Not too long ago, I said this during a press conference, “I don’t want to share my sad feelings with my fans. It’s because I only want to show the good things. However, if its music, then it’s different. I don’t want to share it through my actions but I think it’ll be okay to show it through music.” Honestly speaking, I experienced a huge burnout and it was during that time that I got an opportunity to think about myself. After ranking #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, we received endless amounts of congratulations but I thought to myself if I was worthy to receive the praise… As I looked deeper, I realized I wanted to let it all go because I was having a hard time. I received counseling for these feelings and just spent my days as normal. However, after speaking to Bang PD about it, he asked me how I felt about writing about my feelings into a song. I didn’t have the confidence to do a good job and I also wondered “What if the end product isn’t good?” With those thoughts, I already came to the conclusion that I shouldn’t do it…Bang PD told me that none of that matters. However, he told me that if I decided to go forward with it, he was confident that I would do well and that he would help me find people who would assist me. That’s how I met the composer Gye Bum Ju hyung and that’s how my feelings came to life. He is a bright and positive person. He wanted to help me and told me “Let’s write about all the anxieties and if it doesn’t end well, we’ll just try again.” With his positive mindset, he helped me become brighter too. After talking about many different topics, I was able to put my feelings into this track and share what I wanted to say through “Abyss.” That’s how this song came to be. I want to relay my thanks to Gye Bum Ju hyung once again. The song is a bit depressing for a birthday song but I felt that there would be no other time to release “Abyss” so that is why I chose to release it." . Jin also has amazing vocal compilations, and vocal covers that i feel you would adore (my favorite covers of his are "Mom" and "i love you" and they need to be spread more,, and I NEED you to react to his song 'tonight' you've heard Jins high notes before, he has the widest supported range of the group (said so by the members- even Jimin said Jin has the highest range. Both talented people af). People always discover Jins versatility eventually and it's Jin can go very high, and very low, and he does it acapella often- I love his little runs during 'In The Soop' for example, he'll just be hitting angelic runs in the car. He's not the Grammy's 'Silver Voice' and Japans 'crystal vocal' for no reason- he's earned it. Anyways this is too long, i just love himmmm

Jin made 'abyss' in 2020, when he was actually depressed. he didn't tell anyone but he got burnt out after BTS skyrocketed even more internationally after the release of 'dynamite.' all the people congratulating him made him feel like he didn't deserve it, especially when he thought others deserved it more than him. although people tend to think Jin is cocky and overconfident, he is a deeply mature person who is his harshest critic. from learning how to sing and dance as a trainee who suddenly switched careers from acting to musician, he made such an incredible impact on everyone and it is so impressive. he used to be so insecure of his 'lack of talent' according to himself, along with his looks, his face/body, his personality, and his future. hence, why the 'worldwide handsome' nickname came. i suggest you guys watch the video "the pain behind BTS Jin's smile" at some point it really gives a lot of insight into Jin's past. he is such an incredible advocate for self love, and he deserves that same amount of love directed back at him

I always think that Jin must have good music sense (both melodic and rhythmic),and good ears judging from the quality of his live performances and his compositions! I relate to this a lot. I’m classically trained in singing, not a professional though. I don’t practice daily either but I love singing and when I got into BTS, I started making covers. It took me almost 6 months to gather the courage to even try to cover a song by Jin 😅 His control over his head voice, falsettos and belting is on a whole other level, I still can never belt like he does!

Till this day Jin has been the only k-pop idol to receive standing ovation at a Japanese concert. Jins is hard working. From learning how to sing and dance at the age if 19 is amazing. And he has continued being hard working even in the military earning 2 early promotions and receiving many commendations. He deserves all the accolades. Cannot wait to hear his album.

Always OT7 but Jin has been my main bias since 2015 and watching his growth, hard work and success made me really relate to him. He wasn’t naturally gifted with his talents so I get his feelings of imposter syndrome but he worked damn hard to improve consistently and that made me really cherish him.

Though RM that first stood out to me when I first watch their performance, Jin is my first bias because of this song. His birthday live that year (2020), was my first BTS live. I was really moved by this song right away. I just listened to it and felt the emotions he's expressing and I found myself crying. Jin's vocals gives me chills every time I hear a new song from him for the first time. It's ridiculous how good he sounds. Sometimes I feel like he impliments some of his actor training while singing. man Jin's voice just wrenches my heart open. Also love the dichotomy of the line being about being submerged deeper in the abyss while his voice is soaring up to those crazy high notes. About Abyss: Jin said that he experienced a burnout in 2020 and was feeling insecure & undeserving of all the praise & success BTS was getting like "do i really deserve all this?" "Am i good enough at my job?" so he tried to convey his state of mind into the song. I remember seeing a video of JHope’s release party for his album Jack in the Box, and Jin attended but sat on the sidelines because he was too shy to mingle with people he didn’t know. Jin did not have any musical background and so he learnt to dance and sing when he was 19yrs. He always was told he was not a good dancer and says he just does body movements, but his dancing has improved so much through sheer hard work. A dancing coach once said he is the most impressed with Jin’s dancing as he learnt to dance after his bones were set which is extremely hard and he is amazed how well he dances considering. The same with his singing. As he was at University studying film and acting which made it harder for him to change to singing as acting and singing vocalisation is very different. People always compliment him on his clear diction and the Japanese say his diction when speaking Japanese is so good it is hard to distinguish that he is not Japanese. His voice has developed to the amazing voice it is today through sheer hard practice and determination. I think he felt imposters syndrome at the time as he usually gets the shortest lines of the vocalists though recently it is much improved he still gets less. The funny thing is that Jimin struggles to hit the notes Jin can and when Jungkook covered Abyss he skipped the high bits as he says it is incredibly hard for him to do it. To me his songs are also full of emotion and you can feel the story as he sings it. I think partly that’s because he actually acts while he sings which is why his songs are so emotional. I have heard voice coaches comment on how he can sing falsetto with more depth than most people which is very hard to do, so they agree with you Summer. The astronaut has been number one on a playlist with a popular radio station in Argentina for 80 straight weeks and again the Japanese are quit a stoic audience but both for Awake and Epiphany he has had a standing ovation something none of the other members have achieved. I look forward to his album and the beautiful songs he will sing on it. Thank you for such a tremendous review, it warmed my heart. 💜💜💜💜

Thank you for this reaction. Jin started with BTS with zero experience and background in either singing or dancing, so when you talk about his perfect sense of relative pitch, it is likely a natural attribute that got polished during his training. In the same way, Jin's vocal timbre is a natural attribute; a music producer says that his vocal resonance is not easy to train for. I like how you analyse the song and his execution using your own musical background. One month to WWH - ARMY is already preparing a welcome!

I love Jin voice and all his songs. Jin voice is so beautiful that I fell in love. I was a jk biased before, but I switched to Jin. Jin voice captured my heart. His voice is soulful and so emotion. It hurts me whenever Jin or any member says he didn't do a good job, lacking or even cries about a "bad" performance... I understand their success is all from their hard work & a lot of self-critics to perfection, but it's still very hard to watch them feeling that when we found their work so amazing. On the surface, Jin looks like a confident bubbly extrovert & loves joking, but he has his insecure shy quiet side too. Jin's voice is so solid & stable. I'm with Gabriel on the melody of the demo version of Epiphany. That version is the melody Jin did on his own while the official version is a melody by BangPD. While I adore the official on the album, something about Jin's melody is so captivating. I am like addicted to it. He really is a treasure with melodies. He and Jimin are really good at them. Jin's melodies are pretty and captivating and unique sounding, sometimes even heartbreaking and happy at once and Jimin's are catchy and pretty, usually with a bit of a punch and often easily memorable. Really great stuff. I'm glad you pick up on Jin's talent with melodies.

Hi guys! Jin's solo song/mixtapes are my favorites :) Like every song he releases - I know I will definitely love it. Abyss, Epiphany, Moon, Awake, The Astronaut - I definitely recommend "Yours" which is a Korean Drama OST and "Tonight". And I think not a lot of ARMYS know this one, it's called "Autumn Outside The Post Office", it's really beautiful (I think this is a remake/cover). Anyways, just wanted to share that "Begins ≠ Youth" the korean drama adaptation for BTS Universe is already airing, it currently has 8 episodes and the last 4 episodes which are eps 9 to 12 will air next week May 14 at 3PM KST. It's a really really good drama, the actors portrayed the members' traits inside and outside of BU so ON POINT. Their acting overall is really amazing, every episode is a banger and they will really take you into their stories. JUST A FEW MORE DAYS AND JIN WILL BE BACK HOME!!!!!

Congratulations to BTS for being the only group to have Kim Seokjin as a vocalist. For me it's his seamless, back and forth transitions and emotions. wow what an artist!
