He said he wanted to help me, and brightened me up with his positive energy, saying, “let’s write about many anxieties~ We can always try again if it doesn’t quite work.” So we talked on many things, he made a track out of my emotions on the spot, I wrote down what I wanted to say, and Abyss was complete. I like when you guys pause and talk about the song and your interpretation of it. Jin always remains happy and positive in public so we never knew he was facing all these dark thoughts and he struggled to get it out, so his team at BigHit suggested him to write it down and make a song out of it. Jin released this on his birthday last Dec 4. it was a pleasant surprise! he’s actually the more reserved and private member who doesn’t share much about himself and only shows his goofy side so some armys label him as an enigma.. but his solo songs are always so emotional and thought provoking. he uploaded this song on soundcloud along with a letter to the fans talking about why he wrote this song. he mentioned going through a severe burnout and having thoughts such as “do i deserve all this success when there are other people who love music and are better at it than i am?” i think it’s a very beautiful song to showcase his vocals and writing skills. he is a powerhouse vocalist but this song felt a lot more personal and emotional. thank you for your reaction 💜

I'm so proud of him for having the courage to put his thoughts and feelings into this song. He had said when he had his burnouts in 2020, it made him feel unworthy of all the success they've achieved. Luckily in Bighit, they are very supportive of their artists and their mental health. Jin actually spoke to his CEO, Bang Shi Hyuk, when he was down and Bang suggested he put his thoughts into music. Jin was hesitant because in the K-pop world, showing your weakness to the public can often bring negative results but Bang said he should do it and I'm glad he did. It was therapeutic and helped him to move forward. I have to say, I'm extremely sad and angry that he had to go through this period, he deserves all the success he's earned, no question about it. But there are anti-fans out there who often give him hate comments and criticisms, and although Jin normally handles it well, I think over time it begun to wear him down. I hope Jin stays strong and continue to believe in himself because he and all the rest of the members are so very precious. They have helped so many people around the world with their music and have generously shared themselves with us.

Jin reached out to Bang PD (BigHit CEO) about how he was feeling. PD got him to talk to someone and it was suggested he make a song. He worked with Bumzu, a solo artist under BigHit to record and produce this. He was worried about releasing it because he only wants ARMY to see the happy side of him. He actually sang a part of this spur of the moment on his birthday Vlive. :)

this is such a personal song so i feel like he just wants to express a concise message. it's quite short but the essence of it is his sincerity. jin tells people to speak up when they're having a hard time yet he also says normally that he only wants to show his happy side to the fans because he believes people watch them to be happy and entertained... also, he questions if he deserves all the love and support... so, it was challenging for him to express this sadness and to acknowledge that he needs to come back to himself and understand himself more even in his abyss.

Other songs by Jin: -Ephiphany -Awake (He has been kind of told that he is the least talented in BTS, no matter how hard he was worked, because when he first was in BTS he had to learn how to sing and dance from scratch. So this song he express how he excepts that his members are growing and he can’t do it as well as them, at least not as easy as them. Which is not true. To Americans the idea that a successful person would lay away at night consumed with the thought that they don't deserve it is foreign. But S. Korea people have a strong sense of honor that we no longer have. I hope Jin is at a place now where he can enjoy the fruits of his labor. And to answer him I would say he's right. Jin's Abyss is one of the Bangtan solos by Jin that made me cry-- hard. It deeply resonates within me, since out of the members, I am most similar to Jin. We all have that darkness inside us that we want to pull out from yet the song made me feel that it's ok if you have your own demons, you just need to learn how to accept it and how to deal with it. That it's normal to feel lonely and alone. I don't know if anyone feel the same way about "The Abyss" But I take it as a time of self reflecting. It is a time of loneliness; in the dark by yourself. It is really scary but that is the time when you spend with your self. For almost all of us socialized with ppl, therefore we always try to fit. And I'm not saying we change who we are or being fake. I mean our being tends to be based on others; friends, family, strangers, coworker, etc. But the "Abyss" is like different, it's separates us from others. And thats scary. I think the song is a reflection on 2020. It was a time of reflecting for almost all of us. Someone like Jin, speaks about what the Abyss taught him. I don't don't really see the song as sad. I guess that's why the melody changed as well, it starts off as somber and then the tempo changes. being in that state of mind helped him realized; he had himself all along. I mean, that's what I think

I’ll look for someone who has a good fit for you.” So that’s how I met the songwriter Kye Beomju hyungnim, and I shared with him my current emotions and many other things.. He’s a lighthearted, positive person. He said he wanted to help me, and brightened me up with his positive energy, saying, “let’s write about many anxieties~ We can always try again if it doesn’t quite work.” So we talked on many things, he made a track out of my emotions on the spot, I wrote down what I wanted to say, and Abyss was complete. I’d like to say thank you to Kye Beomju hyungnim once again. It’s a bit gloomy song that doesn’t suit ‘birthday,’ but I thought it’d be awkward to release this on another day other than my birthday, so I decided to release Abyss [on my birthday]. Jin wrote a really long note about why he wrote this song and kind of apologized for how sad it was, heh. He's been struggling with imposter syndrome with all their success and even sought counselling. Bang PD, BigHit's CEO encouraged him to team up with a song writer to give his thoughts and feelings a creative outlet. Jin has expressed in the past that he doesn't like showing the struggling sides of himself to fans. He prefers to only show the happy sides. But he thought maybe, through music, it would be ok. 💜

He said he doesn't want to show his bad or sad sides to ARMY but he thought it was okay to express it in a song. That's what the song is about that he felt like he didn't deserve all the praise he was getting. Those highnotes he actually sang them live just those 2 lines and he sounds exactly the same. Although Jimin sings a lot of the highnotes but Jin has a bigger range and can hit notes even higher. To think he only started singing 7/8 years ago blows my mind till this day
