James Pierpont originally published the song we now know as Jingle Bells under the title "The One Horse Open Sleigh" in September 1857. In 1859 it was republished as "Jingle Bells; or, The One Horse Open Sleigh". Even though it has no connection to Christmas in the lyrics, by the 1860s and 1870s it had become associated with the Christmas season.

My father, b. 1912, said that he remembered Jingle Bells as a Thanksgiving song when he was a kid in rural Iowa. Possible--but also possible that he mis-remembered 'Over the River and Through the Woods' and confused the two. GREAT rendition here.

@ There’s one piece I recorded that I haven’t found any other recordings of in existence. Not only that but the sheet music is nearly impossible to find. Basically, one of my friends found a rare piece in her sheet music collection, so shared it in a discord server dedicated to ragtime. I recorded it and one of my other friends transcribed it and I currently have the only recording of it. The piece is called “Jazz Band Blues”. If you recorded it you would be the second person to have a recording of it online.

Yay, yay, yay!!! That was great! I like the Santa suit, too. It adds to the already festive tone of your delightful playing of the song. Jingle Bells is one of the very few songs that I am able to play, but nowhere near the way you play it. Mine is very bland in comparison. You did an absolutely fantastic job with it! @Leander-piano Yes, Christmas songs are what I play the best, but that isn't saying much. Silent Night was the first song I learned how to play. I can make my way through Silver Bells and It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, too, but I'm at an extremely beginner level. I do ok with Joy to the World, too, since it is essentially just walking down the scale. It has been a while since I last tried to play. I no longer have a piano, but I am thinking about getting an electronic keyboard to practice on. I began learning on my own about 50 years ago by playing my grandmother's electronic organ. It isn't quite the same as playing a piano, but at least it gave me a place to start. I can't read music right now because of the poor vision in my right eye, but it's still getting better.
