I still have 2 pens I bought from you when you were making pens! Love your channel!

Love this pen, I have many colors. The fun thing to do is to take the finial and cap and exchange with other colors.

I love my Jinhao 82s. They write excellently well, and look very good. I've also got an 82 Mini pocket pen, and an 82 Mini with an unusual hooded nib. Sadly, the pocket pens all come with a cream colourway, which is pretty much inviting ink staining. But the 82s bring joy.

For the fude-curious, note that the 82 is available with a fude nib, at a VERY reasonable price. IMO its performance is as good as any other fude.

Glad you mentioned this ... I wasn't aware of this option!

You should buy more Jinhaos 82, I did and found out that the nibs are very inconsistent. Even all of them being F or EF, some write great and juicy, and others absolutely suck.

I have about 10 82s, love them all! So fun! Every one of mine write super smooth, one fude and the rest are medium.

Heya JPL! I enjoy watching your content! Is it possible for you to review the Wordsworth and Black fountain pen set? I'm so glad to see you back on YT making videos... I've been watching your content for a long time, and you're actually one of the first fountain pen content creators who got me into using fountain pens. Thank you for your commentaries!

I really love my Jinhao 82s! I often swap the nibs for a M or B #5 nib. I didn't realize they made a Fude option! These are super fun pens ... my favorite one is black but I also have a cool pink one with white finial.

I love the early Jinhao #5 nibs too, they’re a little springy like Pilot. Nice review.

I had a quite similar experience with my jinhao 82, same as you, the nib was quite dry when it first arrived and i had to use a shim to get it right Even after that, the stock nib was quite rough, so i did swap the nib But the main difference is that my cap cracked quite badly, so i tossed it, will probably get a new one some time soon and place with a schmidt nib

I didn't really like my Jinhao 82, I ended up testing other nibs and now it has a 1.1 stub and it has transformed the pen for me. I really enjoy it now.
@mpstein19764 күн бұрын
Where did you get the stub?
@liza55323 күн бұрын
I’ve had several of these off of Amazon. Loved trading finials, etc. however after a few months, about half of mine cracked and sheared off at the cap threads by the band. This rendered the cap totally unusable and the pen too. Now, I’m afraid to invest in a Sailor! I have had a Prera for a few months and love the CM nib. All the joy of a stub without the large size font.

I agree--after using it for a while, it made me want to get a Pro Gear, which previously I had mixed feelings due to the price.

I have a couple of these, and they're my favourite fountain pens for sketching.

10/10 would recommend the ProGear Slim!

(Incidentally, the ProGear *also* has metal threads on the section against plastic threads on the body.)

Hmm I have a twsbi mini with cracked collar. I think I just found out what I am going to do with the nib.

Thanks JPL and you, mpstein1976. I had a very similar experience to JPL's with my two Jinhao 82s (one med, one fine), and had resigned myself to poorly performing pens. Then I read your comment, mpstein, and remembered that I also have a cracked, unused TWSBI (an Eco medium). I've swapped the nib, and so far the results are promising. Still surprised as how poor Jinhao nibs can be, and at how good TWSBI/JoWo nibs are. (By the way, I also recently purchased two Jinhao 9019s, and those nibs -- #8s -- are in a different and better league altogether.) Thanks again.

It’s weird because I can’t tell any difference between my Jinhao82s vs my sailor pro slims with gold nibs. The feedback is the same to me. Love that red color though. May need to buy one.
@halfsourlizard93193 күн бұрын
How'd you manage to get the Twsbi No 5 to fit? I couldn't get it to fit into the housing. (I was using the Jinhao feed with the Jinhao housing from the 82.)
@jpl24753 күн бұрын
Couldn’t get it to fit how? Too tight or not tight enough? Because I was able to swap it without much issue. It was a tighter for than the original nib but I was able to fit it in.

Wow a very interesting video. I've been watching your videos since 2018 - 19. I am very interested in getting a couple of these 82s. I have a nib from a pilot C.H. 92 and a from a Montblanc 144 wondering if they would fit in them because all number 5 nibs are not created equal. the pen body's are busted up but I saved the nibs , cause one day you never know when you just might need them.

How many pens can you write with at a time? Instead of buying a bunch of these cheaper pens, get one Sailor custom ushori or the pilot custom ushori.
@jpl24753 күн бұрын
I usually have 3 in rotation at any one time. Not just for reviews, but because that’s what I always have done. And I rarely buy expensive pens because I can’t afford it. I dont money off these videos so I buy pens when the budget allows for it.
@AnonYmous-ry2jn3 күн бұрын
@ I’m also on a budget, and can’t afford those super fancy urushi pens I was joking about. I just binge-splurged on 3 pens to get myself back into fountain pens after not touching one for 25(!!) years. This is my trifecta: Wing sung 630, in the flat top burgundy so it won’t be so blatantly a Montblanc 149 knock-off; a jinhau 9019 in blue transparent/demo; and the “jewel” of my collection: I managed to find a heavily discounted Asvine V200. Although it’s overkill (I can be like that sometimes): I’m going to make one more bargain-hunting push to get one I’ve been pining for since seeing some glowing reviews: Asvine p20 in amber. I don’t know if I’ll find one at a price I’m prepared to pay, but I’m shooting to get one at around $20 (U.S.). Then I won’t need to buy another pen for another 25 years! (Realistically, it’s such a thrill to get a new gorgeous pen, that I could see it being habit-forming, as I’ve already started to demonstrate; hopefully this big binge will just quench my appetite, smothering it as it were; on the other hand, I may feel I need to get the next incredible gem that reviewers rave over; hopefully I won’t go in that direction, because I **surely** can’t afford it!!

Funny enough, the Monteverde Monza originally was a rebadged Jinhao 992. Just a 992, with their flaws. With the Monteverde badge. Why I've been not a fan of any Yafa brand to this day.
@manuelsalazar39384 күн бұрын
That's not truly verified, there are other Chinese companies that also make the same 1911 clones, for example Lorelei, it's not clear if Jinhao really manufactures pens for Yafa or not.
@levon94 күн бұрын
UPDATE: Couldn't do the swap, the thickness of the nibs is an issue. The 992 nib won't fit into the nib unit of the 82 more than halfway, and the 82 nib slips out of the 992 if swapped :-/ Too bad, I was really hoping of getting the 82 into rotation. Not for now. Thanks for the review, I agree, fit and finish are nice, but the nibs are stiff as a nail and not enjoyable at all. I haven't used the pen because of it. But you answered my question, and that was if a 992 nib would fit on this pen. Since it seems to, I will swap one of the 992 nibs with this pen and give it another go.
@manuelsalazar39384 күн бұрын
You must be kidding, all Jinhao #5 nibs are swappable no matter the pen, they also can be swapped with almost any #5 nib, I've installed Jowo, Hongian and other no branded nibs in my 82 without issue 🤔

Thanks for that thorough review and comparison, down to the micron, wow! I have a couple 82s and enjoy them. I have a Sailor Pro Gear Slim with a gold nib that is stiffer than your 82 nib appears to be.
