It had its place but died so we could have something better. Sportscar racing hasn't been as healthy as it is now possibly ever.

Super Grand Sport. They were a production based class that ran in the Continental Tire Series that is today's Michelin Pilot Challenge.

There were more rovals rather than classic road courses at that time

Not quite. But they did do several rovals. They did four that season, five if you count Daytona. But Daytona gets a pass. That's a classic road course.

​@@jackarmstrong7285 - Daytona, California, Homestead and Phoenix - Then at some point they used Kansas and, you better believe this one, IOWA of all places Grand-Am (and now IMSA) was owned by NASCAR so they used a lot of NASCAR-owned places to have a decently-sized schedule for not that big of a cost. It's a shame we never got to see Grand-Am at the other traditional rovals like Las Vegas, Texas and Charlotte.
