Great tutorial! I've been dodging learning JIRA for for years but now it's caught up with me and I must learn it, this video was more helpful than I could have ever imagined it would be! Thanks again for producing and sharing this excellent content!

I have a video planned for everything you need to know about filters, but is it just how to restrict/grant access for filters you need?

Hi! Great video! Some setup you showed made my life easier by implementing it in my project. Any advice you could share on how to setup efficiently boards in Jira for big projects? I’m talking about hundreds of tasks for big teams. When I try to split tasks into areas, etc. I end up with something like 20 boards and I’m not sure I have covered all tasks in some board. I’m afraid that something can be left between the boards and not be captured in any of them.

I am planning a video on that where you split things up in multiple projects, but you can take advantage of a custom field, or use the Teams field with board filters perhaps?

Hello, thanks for the video! Could you please tell me how to enable the "multiple boards for 1 project" feature? I don't have that option available in my current project.

Hi Carlos, that is probably because you have a Team Based project? You can check that at the bottom left of the sidebar. Team managed projects can not have multiple boards. If it says that you have a Company Based project, then you can click on the title of your current board under Planning and then in the dropdown select "Create Board" at the bottom.

Great tutorial! Can you create multiple unique boards under one project? Instead of creating multiple projects I would like to create multiple boards under one project with each board being unique without inheriting the same tasks, stories, epics from other boards.

Hi Jeff, you can add as many boards as you like and have them attached to your project. I often see projects setting up focused boards, like defect boards and test boards, for example. You will still manage the issues the same across the boards, so making changes in one board will affect all others as well.

@@jimiwikmanofficial Gotcha! Thanks for your response Jimi. I'm managing multiple software implementations for different customers. What I wanted to do was create a project called Professional Services in Jira and then create different boards for each implementation instead of creating a different project for each customer implementation. Looks like what I was thinking is not possible in Jira.
@jimiwikmanofficial
@jimiwikmanofficial 2 жыл бұрын
@@JeffBeremauro That is possible. What you have is basically a categorization based on customers. This you can solve in several ways depending on the nature of your implementations. If they are isolated to one customer, then you can use Epics for each delivery, or you can use Components to group the work. By setting up custom filters, you can then filter your board based on customer. You can also change the swim lanes to be set to epics, or custom query to allow you to have a row for each customer. I have set this up for several customers that work with a more Kanban like of deliveries against multiple customers.

I couldn't create the board, it says that you entered invalid location. Also, where your option comes of Project, there my Jira shows an option of filter. 4:05

Nicely made video but... I hate Jira. I dream of a time to come in my life when Jira gets out of it. It's a horrendous piece of software. I find it more of a hindrance than a help. Obviously there needs to be some kind of central repository for project knowledge, but Jira is awful. Jira shouldn't be it. I keep 40 tabs open in my browser to avoid being forced to delve into Jira's diabolical search system. It's lame. Yeah, we have kanban but typically, whenever I'm lucky enough to find that proverbial needle in the Jira haystack.... it doesn't work. Something will be missing or broken or whatever :(

By your description it sounds like you are forced to use Jira the wrong way. Jira Software is a task management system for development. That is all it is. If used correctly you will have a board with the tasks that your team should build with the instructions needed to build it. Nothing more. It is not a repository of knowledge because Jira is not a documentation tool. That is what Confluence is for. Everything in Jira you should be able to delete after it is done without loosing anything of value. As a developer you don't even need to touch Jira if you don't want to. You can build the workflow to match your git commands and all modern Code Editors have Jira support. So when you need to start a new task all you need to do is open up Jira in your editor, find a task that you want to do, create a new branch and start working. When you are done you check your code in and so on. All actions will transition the task in Jira according to the work you do. If you wok in Cloud then you will have the requirement in the Jira ticket, embedded from confluence. You might also have technical specifications when need and so on, but the tcket itself just define the technical instructions. Jira can be used in many horrible ways, and usually is when set up by administrators that don't understand the work, or when teams have defined the setup as they don't understand Jira. That is not the fault of Jira however, even if you will be the one that suffers for it.
