Jiraiya sees a tear forming in Narutos eye and instantly realized what it means. But instead of feeling sorry for himself, he apologized to his godson, because he couldn't be there to help him through the hard times. What a GOAT. Still one of the most impactful deaths in anime and one of few to make me cry. Only Vegeta in DBZ hit harder but i was also younger then.

It reminds me of the Boruto episode when Jiraiya realized who Boruto was when Boruto and Sasuke traveled into the future. Jiraiya’s smile before he got his memory wiped confirmed to him that Naruto's future would turn out great.

@@Theterminato2013 Yeah, but at the time I didn't think about it. Plus, even though I really like Jiraiya, he's not one of my favorite characters in Naruto (probably in the top 10). Vegeta was my favorite anime character at the time, since back then (late 99, my friend downloaded all of DBZ and shared it with me before it was on Toonami) there wasn't many great anime and characters to choose from. So seeing my favorite character die and Piccolo telling him that he's probably not going to come back, since he was a bad guy for most of his life, hit me hard.

It's been 10 years since he left us and I am all grown up now but still,I would have given anything for even a moment. Let's be real: Edo Tensei Jiraiya in the War Arc would've been the perfect catalyst for Naruto to bond with Kurama and unlock KCM2. And would've been a much more impactful scene than simply leaving him out.
