Jiraiya vs Itachi - The Correct Answer

Itachi vs Jiraiya is a fight many people would want to see. Well, Jiraiya vs Itachi kinda happens in Naruto part 1, but that one barely counts. If they fought for real, could Itachi beat Sage Mode Jiraiya? Itachi with his powerful Mangekyou Sharingan abilities such as Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, Susanoo, Totsuka Blade, and other skills like his Sharingan Genjutsu and others. Jiraiya has his Sage Mode, toad summons, Rasengan, Hair attacks, and frog song.
We will be analyzing this hypothetical fight and see which ninja would come out on top in the end of the day using their feats during the series. We will use fights such as Jiraiya vs Orochimaru, Itachi vs Sasuke, Jiraiya vs Pain, Itachi vs Kakashi, Itachi vs Naruto, Itachi vs Kabuto, and other fiths to scale both of these Ninja.

Kishimoto definitely changed plans for characters. Itachi is the biggest indicator. There is no way Itachi was initially a good guy, Kishimoto found a way to sneak it in but there is just no way. The comment by Itachi and Kisame regarding fighting Jiraiya was probably true at that point in Kishimoto plans but there is no way Jiraiya can beat Itachi AND Kisame. Kisame has a very good chance at beating Jiraiya alone let alone Itachi too.

He did come back during the war arc as an Edo but he didn't actually receive an significant buff, he just had his Nerf, i.e the disease removed and aside from that Edos are supposed to be weaker than the alive beings and Itachi still managed to outsmart and beat both nagato and kabuto

Removing an applied Nerf isn't the same giving a buff, for example if you break your hand you're now nerfed in a fight but after it heals you aren't getting a "buff" because you're not stronger than you were before breaking your hand, losing a Nerf is not the same as getting a buff, Itachi's sickness works the same way. This guy said "if jiraiya survived into the war arc". He's implying that jiraiya would develop as a character and his abilities would get better when the same argument could be made for Itachi cause they died at the same time and uchiha have much greater room growth. Itachi could've gotten an ems and a perfect susanoo if he survived.

fodder ninja is a bit harsh. jiraiya was the the one who trained some of the best ninja ever, yamato,nagato,naruto… his death was one of the few times i was brought to tears for a fictional character. he was the reason naruto became the person he is. his impact goes beyond 1v1 power he is the equivalent to a prophet in religions. he def would loose to ninja like itachi but his reach goes beyond pure power level

Jiraiya's nowhere near fodder and Itachi is nowhere near his level in terms of any ninja art besides genjutsu. And genjutsu is a wild card in battle. Funny thing is he starts this video by saying that we shouldn't hang on to certain statements, but people still cling to Itachi's statements to his brother about Tsukuyomi. Now is Tsukuyomi strong? Yes. Absolutely. But do we have any evidence outside of Kakashi who was definitely weaker than Itachi at the time of their battle, or kid Sasuke and teen blood lusted Sasuke, who Itachi was essentially aiming to manipulate. Saying something like only an MS user can break out of tsukuyomi can easily be paralleled with statements like "you must kill your closest friend to gain the mangekyo". It was probably just Itachi trying to mentally test Sasuke yet again. He's done several such tests in the anime and manga. With all that out of the way, Jiraiya can easily handle everything else Itachi has to offer and he'd probably only need 5% of his arsenal to accomplish this. Bottom line, even if we subscribe to Tsukuyomi one shotting everyone, genjutsu has no effect on clones, which Jiraiya is a master of and genjutsu of any kind requires some level of surprise to be effective. Jiraiya won't go staring at two MS. He's a veteran who likely would've worked with several Uchiha and been privy to Itachi's skills as a shinobi of the leaf. Stop the cap man.

Guy's team being out of konoha pretty much proves it. This team would be the most devastating against pain. Like Hinata, Neji could hit Pain's Tengetsu and disable Nagato's control for a moment. Guy and Lee would rampage and blitz them with ease. Tenten would watch like she does. Or I don't know, fight against any remaining paths.

2:09 I would actually say that Itachi’s best speed feat is when he utterly blitzes Edo Nagato with his Susanoo and shuriken trick. He wasn’t even able to use shinra Tensei or anything to react. White hair Nagato was able to dodge a close range punch from V2 Bee. His Amaterasu also blitzed white hair Nagato faster than his auto Edo Tensei reactions could react. Naruto also explicitly says before he encounters Itachi and Nagato, that he’s no longer going to be holding back because he knows the Edo Tensei are already dead. Also Sasuke gets faster in the Juubito fight, but before that he was=to his Kabuto fight self.

I don't know if this was directly stated but the sharingan allows a user an almost precognitive perception of an opponent, it is why most ninja just get overwhelmed by Uchiha members and why so many ninja try to steal the sharingan for themselves. Sure Orochimaru doesn't have his precious jutsu, but he still has all his mutated demon snake abilities. Jiraiya was drugged so badly that he couldn't even effectively use jutsu to his liking. When he used his Swamp of the Underworld, he said it was too small YET IT SWALLOWED 2 GIANT SNAKES. Which implies his swamp could've been several times bigger. And that's not even counting how big a sage mode swamp would be...so therefore, Jiraiya was still insanely strong even being only at 30%.

That’s ludicrous to say that an uzumaki sealing jutsu is weaker than the drug Tsunade made. The reason orochimaru could fight naruto was because he took over a body. Doing so temporarily gains him access to his arms but eventually the seal eats them away again. That’s why he couldn’t use his arms to do jutsu when sasuke attacked him. Orochimaru had not switched bodies when he fought the Sannin.

Nah, you're not wrong at all. Jiraiya died relatively early in the 2nd part before things started getting crazy power scaling wise(I still consider the whole 8 gates thing the most absurd and offensive ass pull of all time). You could probably use his clone from Boruto to get an idea of how powerful he'd currently be had he not died and actually perfected sage mode. I've always been a Jiraiya fan and kinda feel like he's gotten the short end of the stick as far as power demonstrations go. Still tho, Pervy Sage is undoubtedly a legend amongst legends.

If he starts the fght in Sage Mode, then he has a slight chance. But Itachi is still the heavy favourite. Jiraiya could avoid being hit by Amaterasu but I don't see how he counters Tsukoyomi, and especially the Susanoo.

Considering Sasuke's growth over those two years and absorbing Orochimaru, on the High-end and pre-Kirin Itachi was using abt 50-60% while balancing sickness and abt 30-40% w/o balancing. It would be nice to know the physical/elemental properties of the Susano’o. Like we know the truth seeking orbs are combinations of the all elements and are weak to/nullified by Sage/natural energy. This isn't dumb. Jiraya has win cons with alive Itachi without even any Hax. Base Jiraya is more of a complete character than Itachi. Itachi can have the best chakra control in the verse but still not repeating the same feat he did with Sasuke. Jiraya tends to use combinations like kakuzu, so Toad Summon isn't just Big summons for Kenjutsu fights but rather medium to small summons up for oil buffs or elemental buffs. Distance here is also key. if he is just at the head of Gamabunta, Itachi doesn't have the stance for using genjutsu, even Tsukuyomi. In closed places Jiraya can easily summon the likes of Gamabunta, breaking thorugh everything and making it open field combat. Amaterasu is a problem only for normal Jiraya. SageMode Jiraya can dodge it as Naruto's kage bushin dodged the raikage's attack of similar similar. And used the same way it was for Sasuke, Jiraya with the combination has more firepower to last untils Itachi's eyes is closed or even beyond that.

There are alot of variables. Most power scalers go by direct evidence via feats, statements, and comparisons. However, just like in “real” life, there is more to winning and losing a fight than just power. Many people say, Itachi bodied Orochimaru, so he would body Jiraiya. Thats almost like saying bulbasaur beats squirtle, so he would beat charmander as well. Many of them dont get into exactly why Orochimaru got slapped by itachi in the first place, and would likely call doing so “head cannon.”

Itachi was able to block Kabuto’s physical attack using Sasuke’s sword. Itachi is deceptively physically strong and fast. Even when his movement was impaired, he could still activate Susanoo and intercept Sage Mode Kabuto. He’s also able to slash right through his body, even though Sage Mode gives enhanced durability as well (like when Naruto fell on spikes and didn’t even get hurt). Itachi and Sage Mode Kabuto were tagging each other, trading blow for blow, even though Sage Mode Kabuto’s senses were amped to the point of dodging Sasuke’s Susanoo Arrow. Physical stats-wise, Itachi is FAAAAR above Sage Mode Jiraiya.

Not going to even debate Kabuto, because he is just a wholedifferent level (to even attempt to face Itachi and Sasuke 2 v 1 is suicide for literally every other pre madara ninja accept for pain at this point). As for stats, people downplay Jiraiya because he didnt show any crazy over the top showings with his sage mode feats, but I think this is a testament to how mighty pain is. Have you ever experthat phenomenon when you are watching some of the best players compete in basketball, videogames, etc and think to yourself: I can go against these guys and do well? Only when you try to, they obliterate you with negative diffculty? I think its that type of a perception situation. Usually when a character seems particularly OP, it’s because of how far ahead they are from their opponents in terms of abilities . When feats start to seem less impressive, that usually indicate they are evenly matched. And it should not be understated that Pain is a beast!!!! As for swapping hands with Kabuto, Itachi is an Edo. There are zero repercussions or risks for engaging in melee as and edo, and raw strength is not always a factor when it comes to deflecting or using skill based weapons to cut through something.

The flaw I caught in the speed section is that Jiraiya’s speed feat was dismissed because Pain kept up with Jiraiya and reacted to his rasengan. HOWEVER, the one controlling the paths was Nagato and as an edo he was shown to keep up with Itachi and KCM Naruto. The paths were using Nagato’s reaction time so I don’t find that to be an antifeat. If anything it just means they’re all more or less relative to one another. I do not think Itachi runs circles around Jiraiya It’s also not really super fair to say Jiraiya was getting blitzed when he was being ambushed. He had his guard down completely when he had his arm blown off. He thought the fight was over and he even had his eyes closed. However before that he still managed to take out HALF of the paths WITHOUT any intel. That fight was WAY more impressive than you give Jiraiya credit for. Also, once Ma and Pa are on Jiraiya’a shoulder I don’t see him being affected by any genjutsu that isn’t Tsukuyomi because Jiraiya’s essentially a perfect jinchuriki in that form. Ma or Pa can break him out with their chakra which is flowing thru him at all times. This is a MUCH closer fight than people think once Jiraiya’s in sage mode because I don’t think Itachi would have the stamina to just negate everything Jiraiya does. I’m also not entirely convinced that Itachi’s Susanoo can tank Jiraiya’s massive rasengan. Naruto has shown just how potent those are and his jutsu would be boosted by sage chakra.

It's stated multiple times in multiple sources that Jiraiya is on par with Itachi. It's even implied in the story even if you ignore all the explicit statements. Because Itachi dies on the same day as Jiraiya, in a fight with Sasuke and Orochimaru. It's supposed to be poetic. Edo Itachi would beat Jiraiya, no problem. But that's a crazy comparison. Using well drawn panels that are drawn to illicit horror and shock as "Oh he wasn't fast" is so stupid, and it's even worse to use a jokey scene where the two funny characters didn't suddenly go super serious and block him and look super badass instead of funny, as a basis for power level, is even more insulting to everyone's intelligence.

About itachi stomping orochimaru twice. It was for a big part circumstantial. One of itachi's big advantages over oro is that he was prepared. The first time he felt oro coming from a mile away and put him under a genjutsu before there even was a fight. The second time he had that sword on him to seal oro away just like that, again barely a fight. Let's say they meet a third time with no prep and oro being aware of itachi's genjutsu, he'd find a way to avoid it just like kakashi did and it would be a fairly serious fight. Itachi would still win though.

How was any of that called being prepared? Orichimaru attacked Itachi out of the blue and Itachi put him under a reverse genjutsu (the same one he used against Kurenai) And the second time Itachi was near death and Orichimaru took advantage of the situation to try and take their bodies which was thwarted easily since he got sealed. If anything Orichimaru had been preying on Itachi since he was a child and planned to take his body. There’s also no way he wasn’t expecting genjutsu, the only thing he could possibly had been underprepared for was the Totsuka blade and Yata mirror, or the fact that Itachi was a monster.

Two things. One: you're using two very different versions of Itachi. One is chakra drained after using Tsukuyomi and like 85% blind, and the other has unlimited chakra and no blindness. Jiraiya vs alive Itachi Jiraiya wins. Jiraiya vs Edo Itacho, Itachi wins. Two: Kishimoto originally did want Itachi to be a bad guy. So when Itachi said what he said about Joraiya, he was being honest. Kishimoto afterwards decided to make Itachi a good guy and give him the backstory of protecting the leaf. So at the time he made that statement, he was actually not an ally of the Leaf.

Honestly, Naruto is not really consistent enough for these conversations. Sometimes fire burns, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes people are fast, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes the rasengan is a one hit kill, sometimes it's a tickle. Itachi is the biggest abuser of this. He's as strong as he needs to be to demolish whoever he's fighting. He's the Saitama of Naruto. This fight goes several ways in Itachi's favor: 1: Itachi uses genjutsu and instant wins in every scenario. It worked on Orochimaru, Kakashi, Deidara, Kurenai, Sasuke, and arguably Kabuto, etc... It's just that powerful if it works. 2: Jiraiya uses his hair and Itachi sets it on fire with Amaterasu. 3: Jiraiya uses his summons and Itachi sets them on fire with Amaterasu or activates his Susanoo and attacks with it's Sword of Totsuka to one shot them and potentially Jiraiya. 4: Jiraiya uses Rasengan and Itachi blocks it with his Susanoo or just straight up counterattacks with his Susanoo's Sword of Totsuka and one shots him. That's Itachi being mostly reactive instead of proactive even.

One thing I dislike about statements as they can be disproven with feats. "Hiruzen is the strongest Hokage" "Sasori beat the strongest Kazekage" (for all we know, the 3rd was the strongest, but we don't see how that battle plays out) "And Itachi saying Him and Kisame stalemate Jiraiya at best. I think this statment was meant to be true at the time to hype up how strong Jiraiya really is. 'Naruto', the series, wasn't the juggernaut it is now and I don't think Kishimoto intended for it to go the way it did. Itachi might've been an actual villain at the time instead of being a spy for the Leaf or meant to be redeemed. As things escalated though, Itachi became more important and played a very big part in Sasuke's journey and how things played out as a whole, and as such, had to become stronger to keep up with said escalation. I love Jiraiya, he's one of my favorite characters, but Itachi out classes him easily.

He also didn't have the other paths of pain with him in his fight against the nine tails. He probably did suffer a drop in power by the time Kurama came out, but he was probably still on the same ‘tier’ he was before. All this to say, then, that Kyubi V2s taking on Pain lends a lot of credence to the idea that V2s are absolutely not built equal across bijuu.

that fight was only difficult because kabuto hid in a place perfect for him to fight and itachi was fighting to protect sauske while also having to fight with the intention of not killing kabuto which is stated to be much ahrder to do than killing him. itachi even ahs to tell sasuke not kill kabuto because they need him alive to undo the reanimation jutsu. they were fighting in a cave that prevents them from using thier full ssusano as well. not to mention edo tensei was specified to be weaker than thier alive selfs. and itachi used more jutus while alive then in edo tensei. and edo tensei have chakra limits. but thier chakra will replenish eventually. some edo tensei in the war arc temporarily run out of chakra and had to recharge. also jiriyah would not be able to activate sage mode before itachi defeats him. and in sage mode tsukyomi would still defeat jiriyah before he could do anything.

The 3 Way Sannin Deadlock isn't really a good moment in the series to reference because Orochimaru was heavily nerfed and couldn't use handsigns while Jiraya was tranquilised... so it's not a good point of comparison. An un-nerfed Jiraya was unable to handle 4 Tailed Naruto... one solid blow from him was enough to land Jiraya in critical condition with a permenant scar across his chest... Meanwhile Orochimaru (jutsu still sealed) was able to fight on par with 4 Tailed Naruto... including blocking the Tailed Beast Bomb, getting chopped in half, having his arm erroded/poisoned, getting hit with a shockwave that was strong enough to blow away a tsunami of snakes and a few trees... Itachi fought an un-nerfed Orochimaru, who still had his original body and the use of his arms... and he defeated him in under a second just by looking at him. I think it's fairly safe to say that Orochimaru is stronger than Jiraya and both are at least 1 tier below Itachi.

Jiraiya's a badass and could probably crack Itachi's Susano'o if he's in Sage Mode and didn't hit the mirror shield. But Itachi wouldn't be really hurt by Susano'o cracking a bit. I feel like you downplay one major factor in all of Jiraiya's feats. He worked under almost zero intel on some opponents. Against Pain, he had almost zero context of his abilities or who he was at the time. Once he realized who they were, he still had no idea the powers of the Rinnegan. Itachi against Nagato had direct access to the real Nagato and distractions from the focus on Naruto and Bee. Jiraiya was fighting the extra bodies solo and still managed to take down some of them. Since we regard who fought who, in that case jiraiya fought otsutsuki in base. Fights in naruto were rarely about pure speed and strength based on chackra. And yes. Jiraya was the most nerfed sannin between the 3 sannin because he could not mold chackra at all. Orochimaru could not use complicated jutsus due to lack of hands but he was still close to his full power. Tsunade had not prepared for battle for a long time and she was mentally nerfed too. It s true Itachi is no pushover and he has the susanoo too, but in terms of taijutsu he is below jiraya since he is sick. However itachi is the master of shuriken jutsu and he would try to avoid direct combat with jiraya especially due to toad summons. If jiraya is to win against itachi he probably has to use ma and pa auditory genjutsu or take him by surprise with a huge rasengan. Of course itachi is no pushover and even against sage mode jiraya he has 3 extremely powerful jutsus. Amaterasu, tsukuyomi and his susano. Jiraya can avoid itachi if he used these 3 in the same way he did sasuke. However if Itachi were to use these with very proper timing he just might kill jiraya instantly. On the other hand jiraya can avoid itachi s susanoo and kill him when the latter is depleted. Also jiraya s jutsu seem to be kinda more destructive than base itachi s, so itachi will have to use substitution and genjutsu to stay alive. All in all Itachi has less conditions than jiraya to win this battle, but jiraya seems to be slightly more powerful when using middle tier jutsus. The battle seems to be slightly in favor of itachi, but the writer decides who wins in the end.

I'll just kinda repeat what I already wrote on Swagkage's video on this topic (which he unlisted for some reason): In my opinion the only thing that matters is what the creator of the manga says/wants. He specifically made Itachi say that Jiraiya would beat him/them, so if he wanted it to play out like that, he could have made it happen. Just like he made that nonsensical thing happen where that one body of Pain managed to hit Jiraiya while in sage mode _and_ having the detection barrier up. Jiraiya needed to lose at that point, so he made it happen, even though it made absolutely no sense. Same would happen in a Jiraiya vs. Itachi fight if he wanted it to end that way. Some important points I also mentioned on that video are: 1. Susanoo consumes tons of chakra, all Jiraiya needs to do is use the mud jutsu and wait for Itachi to run out of it or stop using it. 2. Regarding Amaterasu: If Kishimoto wants him to win, he could just make him realize in time that an Amaterasu (or in case he doesn't know it yet: "something dangerous") is coming and use his hair jutsu to "block" or catch it, then just quickly cut off the burning part = tons of wasted chakra, eyes bleeding, Itachi's rekt. I have no idea why you call that "not practical" somewhere between minute 23 and 24, it makes perfect sense. 3. Regarding any sort of _strong_ genjutsu, if Kishimoto wants Jiraiya to win the fight, he'll just make him avoid eye-contact during the entirety of the fight. The weaker kinds that he can use without his eyes can be disspelled instantly by the frogs. If Kishimoto wants Jiraiya to win, he can easily make him win. He has a theoretical counter to everything Itachi has.

Sorry but this analysis is clearly biased and wrong at the same time. One thing dygo knight and a lot of youtuber tend to forget is when 2 shinobis are fighting for the kill.That doesn't necessarily mean they will fight each other straight on like the do in Dragonball.Sometimes someone can choose to retreat in order to prepare a new attack like Jiraiya did against the 3 Pains or hide their position in order to lunch a sneak attack like kakashi do. They can even refuse a close battle and fight a long range battle. Jiraiya doesn't have to attack Itachi straight on or in a close combat. All he has to do is to break the distance , hide his position and use long powerful range attack against Itachi. Jiraiya and Itachi are equals in stats with Jiraiya a little slower than Itachi. If he manage to break the distance , Itachi tsukuyomi and his arsenal of genjutsu will be pretty useless since he will be very difficult for him to make an eye contact. By hiding his position , Amaterasu also become useless.Meanwhile Jiraiya can use a arsenal of jutsu to attack Itachi at distance and use diversion tactics.If Itachi use susanno , Jiraiya can immobilize it by using his earth jutsu and drop gamabunta on him. Meanwhile if Itachi want to win , he must choose a close combat , first in order to use his MS and second because his chakra pool are low.So he must finish quickly. Long answer - Amaterasu gets absorbed - quarter Susanoo gets stomped by tailed beast sized toads - Genjutsu gets negated by summons. - Izanagi reduced his almost minute chakra and down to one eye - Izanami is useless And thats just base Jiraiya. Only time Itachi would have a chance is to get Jiraiya 1v1 without a summon but we know Jiraiya doesn't need hand signs to summon. Even with Kisame, all Jiraiya has to do is make Samehada absorb sage chakra and it turns to stone. Basically Itachi was sensible to run People sleep on Jiraiya cos 4 tails injured him but we know if he wanted Naruto dead, he couldve summoned Gamabunta on him like Minato did to 9 tails. Edo Itachis feat against edo Nagato is an amped Itachi in a 3v1 against Nerfed Nagato who was immobile and wasn't thinking for himself.

Itachi vs Jiraiya Instead of the fights that lead them to their deaths, which was close to one another, Jiraiya decides to not go to the Hidden Rain and Itachi decides to not fight Sasuke. The two run into each other in the middle of the forest. Here's how I think the battle between them would go, based on what the anime showed on battle habits and Jutsus. Battle starts Both Faces one another. Jiraiya tries to summon Gamabunta, but gets hit with Tsukyomi. Days passed in Tsukyomi but only a second in the real world and Jiraiya finally comes out of Tsukyomi. Jiraiya, fatigued, barely standing, attempts to bite his finger to summon Gamabunta. Itachi sees this and throws a Kunai at Jiraiya. Jiraiya drops on his knees and manages to summon Gamabunta. Gamabunta swings his sword at Itachi. Itachi matches Gamabunta's size and strength with his Susanoo. Jiraiya tells Gamabunta to run and buy time while he gets into sage mode. Gamabunta wanting to fight, keeps swinging his sword at Itachi. Itachi blocks Gamabunta's sword with the Yata mirror and attempts to impale Gamabunta with the Totsuka blade. Gamabunta dodges the Totsuka blade and eventually gathered some distance between them. Jiraiya yells at Gamabunta to run until he is able to get into Sage mode. Gamabunta is pissed that he has to be a coward but decides to obey. Itachi sees Jiraiya and Gamabunta about to run off to get out of range for Susanoo. Itachi uses Amaterasu in an attempt to catch Gamabunta. Gamabunta counters Amaterasu with some water bombs and random jumps far away from Itachi. Jiraiya and Gamabunta gets far enough from Itachi's range. With Itachi's eyes slightly visually impared, can no longer continue to pursue Gamabunta with Amaterasu. Jiraiya finally gets into Sage mode. Jiraiya and Gamabunta returns with Ma and Pa toad. Jiraiya and Gamabunta gets into closer range with Itachi. Jiraiya, Ma, and Pa toad uses oil, water, and fire jutsu at Itachi, while sitting on top of Gamabunta as he jumps around. Itachi blocks with Yata mirror and eventually catches and impales Gamabunta. Gamabunta is slowly being sucked into the gord. Jiraiya, Ma, and Pa toad lands on the ground watching Gamabunta get sealed away. After Gamabunta is sealed, Jiraiya faces Itachi and his Susanoo. Jiraiya sees that Itachi's Susanoo is attached to Itachi on the ground, Jiraiya uses Swamp of Underworld jutsu to sink Itachi with Susanoo. Itachi tries to escape with his Susanoo but sinks faster as he struggles. Itachi uses substitution justu and manages to get out of the swamp. Itachi reappears from the substitution jutsu without Susanoo. Jiraiya notices Itachi looks worn down. Itachi begins to feel the backlash and the fatigued after using Amaterasu, Tsukyomi, and Susanoo. Itachi begins to cough up blood due to his terminal illness and fatigue kicking in. Jiraiya uses this opportunity to perform Toad Genjutsu on Itachi. The Toad Genjutsu catches Itachi and immobilizes him. Jiraiya walks over and impales Itachi with the stone sword. Itachi activates Izanagi and vanishes in front of Jiraiya. Jiraiya now confused at what happened, tries to ensure he wasn't under a genjutsu. Jiraiya tries to sense Itachi with his Sage mode and barely dodges Itachi's kunai attack from behind him. Itachi, now half blind, manages to scratch Jiraiyas headband while Jiraiya attempted to dodge his attack. In that moment that Jiraiya barely dodges Itachi, Itachi hits Jiraiya with Izanami. Jiraiya flew back a few feet away from Itachi. Jiraiya standing motionless with his head down. Ma and Pa toad calls out to Jiraiya boy. Despite the attempts, Ma and Pa toad were not able to wake Jiraiya out of Izanami. Itachi now blind walks towards the sound of Ma and Pa with his Kunai. As Itachi gets closer to Jiraiya's body, Itachi coughes up more blood and falls to the ground, in front of Jiraiya. Both incapacitated. Jiraiya caught in an infinite loop of self reflect and Itachi on the verge of death, blinded in both eyes. The result.......

Itachi has way more feats and the best dojutsu ever: the sharingan. Still I think in part 1, Itachi was originally genuinely afraid of Jiraiya, but like a lot of things Kishimoto retconed Itachi into being way stronger than a sanin to hype up his match vs Sasuke so yeah Itachi(and the sharingan as a whole) was made stronger in shippuden, Kishimoto also retconed Itachi's motivations too in shippuden and now he's a "good guy" this reveal gives plenty of excuses to the fans to headcannon Itachi's behavior in part 1.
