Hey, my friend. We seem to have similar taste. Jiri is my favourite fighter, too. Being a black belt in Aikido and Iaido, I, of course, also own two katakas and one Wakazashi. This was your best interview so far (the sky is your limit) with good synergy between you two.

If you want to make Jiří (=George) really happy and surprise him in a good way, then at the end of the interview say "vítězství" (tough word to pronounce, use google translate to practice). In our language this means "victory" and it is his war cry that he uses after he has won a fight or he just ends an interview. He ended by saying "vítězství" in english but give it a go and say it in czech. He'll for sure appreciate it because for him it has a higher impact if said in our language. Vítězství! //\\

How did you start getting these interviews? Like let’s say I wanted to also interview fighters how do you start going about that.

i would start with all social media platforms and try to find a way to hit them up with a question if they are willing to do it ? I've seen Jiri giving interview to a guy with 150 subs - but to truely distance yourself from competition you need to have something extra and most important is to have prepared good questions and ofcourse having knowledge about the fighters and the history of division. It is not eazy - otherwise everyone would do it

The interviews became a lot easier to get once I started working for a major publication, CBS Sports. All these interviews you see, I use for written articles on their site. I got my start in MMA specifically writing for small MMA blogs and then reaching out to fighters and their managers via social media and email. You start small and over time good things come! I've been at this for about 7 years now

For me, Jamahal Hill is the best light heavyweight currently, he only has 1 loss in his career and he finished most of his fights, I think he has a 100% submission rate. I don't remember any of his fights that went to the decision.

It's very clear that Jiri was distracted by all the katanas in the background 😂 and he must have been thinking in his mind about victory/mastery. On a side note, loved the way how you paced the interview Shakiel. The other so-called journalists need to take a queue from this about how to approach a fighter whose first language is not English instead of going at 100 mph. You made sure that you explain your questions extremely well to Jiri unlike the weasel who always tries to bait Jiri because of his limited English. Great job!
