Having just started playing team volleyball as a 162cm opposite this totally helped me to develop a better mentality to train more and play harder. Thank you very much!

Lefties hitting from the right side is pretty much a mirror image of rightys hitting from the left side. If you mirror a right handers left side approach for your right side, you should be good.

i am 6'4ish and 18 y/o been playing volleyball for 1 entire year as middle blocker, its like the only position i ever played. Unfortunately i dont think i will be growing much more than this. I cant stop thinking that i am wasting my time in this position, is just that i am a bit taller everyone else in my team. Its feels super good to play middle, but i dont think i will be able to go further in volleyball just staying like that. Now i really want to try and start play opposite or outside, but is really hard to escape now that i established my base as a middle blocker in my team.
@VolleyCountrycom Жыл бұрын
I understand and it is not always easy to change position. Speak with your coach about your idea to become opposite or outside hittet👍 From my own experience it is easier to change from outside hitter to opposite, so you can take it to consideration if you want to try these two positions😉
@VBMichael_DАй бұрын
On my college club team, one of our OHs was 6'4". The rest of us were between 5'11' and 6'3". I am 5'11" myself. Being the tallest on your team shouldn't automatically make you a middle. If you are better in another spot, that's where you should be!

How to become the best opposite: Watch any and all footage of Steve Timmons that you can. LOL Even though Kurek, Anderson and Zaytsev are all elite opposites (of which I also recommend watching), Timmons pretty much pioneered the back row attack. He was pretty much unstoppable from the right side, and was purported to be able to hit the ball at over 100mph/162kph. He could also hit back quicks (at a zero tempo) as well as any middle blocker could hit front quicks.
@VBMichael_DАй бұрын
Here is a tribute video to Timmons and Karch Kiraly. I couldn't find anything better regarding highlights for just Timmons. I also apologize for the 144p (if we're lucky) resolution and music. It is beyond my control. LOL The first thing to point out is to notice Timmon's approach from the right side (front row or back row). He pretty much approaches STRAIGHT up the sideline. He does not start his approach 4 feet outside the court. Note that with that approach, he can still hit angle, line or wherever he wants to. It's always amusing when folks argue this when in turn one of the best opposites in volleyball history does not approach wide. LOL Also note, he can and does hit line quite a bit. In fact, you'll notice how often he paints the sideline. He also six packs two left side line defenders in this video. He may be the only player whose hits I would be a bit scared to try to dig. LOL Also, note at 4:45, the back quick he hits. THAT is a bounce! I don't see any current olympic teams running double quicks as often as these guys did. If modern teams would add to their arsenal, the way that these guys played, they would be unstoppable. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4LalamNo7Wdftk

Where and when your approach starts, depends on the set you are hitting. You will leave a bit later for a standard outside set, than you would for a right side set (we called them 93s but I think they are called a 'Red' now). You will start earlier if you are running a zero tempo quick vs a one tempo. For example, the standard outside set (we called them a 13...in the front row 1 zone and a 3 height/tempo), the general rule is that you want to start your approach when the ball is about halfway towards it's peak. I haven't seen VC's video about timing but I'm sure it will help as well.

Hi Jiri, first of all your videos are reslly good and useful, thank you for all of them. I am a middle blocker but mostly because of a team need rather than personal choice and I really love spiking much more than I love blocking. I've been considering switching positions from middle blocker to opposite hitter. I have a good vertical jump and attack. What are your thought on this? Thank you.
