Manali is a town in the Kullu district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, close to Kullu. It is located near the Kullu Valley's northernmost point, where the Beas River formed the valley. The town is situated in the Kullu district, roughly 544 kilometres (338 miles) northeast of New Delhi and 270 kilometres (170 miles) north of Shimla, the state capital. Manali is the starting point of a historic trade route that passes via Lahaul (H.P.) and Ladakh, across the Karakoram Pass, and onto Yarkand and Hotan in the Tarim Basin of China. The population of Manali was 8,096 in 2011, according to the Indian census. India's most well-known tourist resort, Manali, acts as the entry point to the Lahaul and Spiti.
