I've been studying Jitte for about six months now and I have enjoyed this different look at the application, thanks for the clip. Ossu!

I liked the interpretation of the Haito uchi as a neck crank. I study Wado Ryu. In our style, we do not step forward on the Haito uchi. It is amazing to watch how kata is done by different karate styles and the many variations and interpretations to bunkai. Very good video!

That was great. Those dislikes must be from your rival dojo

even if the performance lacks power and accuracy, the bunkai is worth watching and studying.

Thanks! I'm not sure why but different style call this Kata different names Jitte or Ship Soo. They look very similar

Ship or sip soo is the Korean name. It means 10 hands. Jitte is Japanese it has the same basic meaning 10 hands but it also refers to the jitte of China which looks like some key moves in the kata.

@@maskedfishing7168Makes since, I took Karate from a Korean instructor as a teen and he called it Ship Soo. Much older now but still remember a hand full of the forms.

@@chadwiley6917 so other interesting sip soo info. It’s also referred to as the bear form because of the position of the arms throughout the form. 🤷

Did this as part of my nidan grading with Enoeda in early 70s What happened to kime? Jitte was such a powerful kata then Althought short and in parts slow it demanded such energy and focus This is a pale reflection. Sorry, suppose I'm an old fart...... still training though!

Bill, I would have to agree, unfortunately. it seems as if the practitioner here didn't understand the kata, which is fundamentally designed to disarm an opponent attacking with a bo staff (as I'm sure you're aware), then turn it against them. it appears obvious the practitioners have not practiced with a weapon as the moves to rotate and strike downward appear nearly in front of his body rather than spinning/rotating to the sides respectively. gree, unfortunately. it seems as if the practitioner here didn't understand the kata, which is fundamentally designed to disarm an opponent attacking with a bo staff (as I'm sure you're aware), then turn it against them. it appears obvious the practitioners have not practiced with a weapon as the moves to rotate and strike downward appear nearly in front of his body rather than spinning/rotating rob the side. This was a BIG point made to me when learning bunkai for Jitte. were additionally, I see no kime, stances are very high, hips are not forward, and at the beginning the practitioner seems to be retreating. we're all learning and the point isn't to demean, but I don't think this was a competent demonstration. I hate to say it, but these karateka honestly appear like 4th Kyu.

The original bunkai to most of the kata have been lost to history. I don't know that anyone can say authoritatively, "This is THE only bunkai" to any of the old kata. Just my two cents.
