One other tip, too make the tire more flexible leave the tire out in the sun when you pull the tire off the rim. A cold rubber is much stiffer and a warm to hot tire is very good. On the tire and beating the tire off, we use a long screw drive with a cheater for more leverage. A good video fwiw

I've been changing my dirt bike & dual-sport tires for years, but I thought the smaller-diameter ATV tires would be a PITA. You made it look like something I can handle. I figure I'll give it a shot. Like you said, the drive to & from getting them mounted takes a while. Your bead-braking method is priceless. Thanks for taking the time to share your skills & knowledge with us. 👍👍

I've got a friend who once worked in a tire shop for a long time. I swear he could take off and remount any tire with not much more than a Popsicle stick! Like you, he puts his entire weight and whole body into the project. My dad ran a service station for a long time and I watched the guys fix flats all the time. After watching people like you and those guys make it look easy, which I know it really isn't, I am tempted to give it a try myself! I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing it.

Love this down to earth video. My dad and I used to change his tires on his pickup truck and car the same way. We used to break the bead by putting our heels and pressing up and down, that was in the early 50's, it worked then. Your way of breaking the beads with your wife's car is the only way to go. Thanks for being honest. God Bless...

What I loved about this video: Mentioned the simple tools we can use if we have them, then proceeded to show us the hard way if we don't. Never once heard a word of frustration - I know I have when using screwdrivers on my mower tires... Honest response at the end. What I didn't like: Nothing. Great video man! @@FarmDad I actually just tried changing an atv tire last night.... I was able to break the bead on one side - but the other side just won't go. I think I"m going to go get a tire changing tool with bead breaker from HarborFreight for $40 :/ EDIT: Tire changing tool was AWESOME for breaking the bead and for getting the tire off, but didn't help get the tire back on. Had to work tediously on the ground to get the tires onto the rims. That kicked my butt...

Thanks for the video, really helped me changed 2 tires. I used a bobcat to drive on the tires to unseat the bead, worked great. Also I have a stove in my shop and I put new tires in front of the blower , turning tires around periodically, the heat really help the stiff tires loosen up a bit. Took no time to mount after they heated up. I would recommend replacing the valve stems, you don't want to mount a new tire only to discover after that the old stem is no good.

Quick tip: To put a lot of air into your tire with the valve stem removed, push the quick connect on the end of your air hose onto the valve stem of the rim and get a whole lot more air to bead seen the tire on the rim. When both beads are pop'ed on remove the quick connect from the valve stem and insert the and insert the valve into the stem them air up to the desired pressure using an air chuck on your air hose. Your welcome !

Way to go. I have changed a few this way but needed a refresher. Gets a little harder when you're 72. Headed back out to pull the rim off the mower and put the last side on. Only thing to add is that if you have problems with the tire slipping around, use a vise grip on the rim flange to keep it from rotating while you are trying to mount it slowly and prying little bits in just like he showed. Pretty smart and you can tell he is a thinker when thing don't go quite like planned.

Or people that value their time. We have a local tire shop that will do all four tires on an ATV for $12. That being said, I still change my own, but I have a bead breaker for my press, and nice ridged stand to work off of, and the proper tools. If I was still changing them on the ground with screw drivers, I would be looking pretty hard at the place that does it for $12/4 wheels.

Awesome job. To make seating the bead easier, I always put a ratchet strap around the middle of the tire. It works great, but a little scary when you release it.

It is cheaper to do it yourself, and the time is about the same either way like you said, but your last point is the most important IMO; its fun! Working on your own stuff has many benefits, but its also enjoyable and very fulfilling to know you can do it yourself. Great vid!

So here I am at work trying to change a tire on a 8inch golf cart tire did not for the life of me know how till I found this ... definitely hung up on the 2nd to last step. Great video advice and directions. By the way used a forklift forks to break the beads.

Your right about the cost. Went to a couple local garages and the cheapest I was told for mounting my tires for my Polaris ACE 570 was $20 a tire. Took me a couple hours to do all four tires and was the pain in the ass a couple times but well worth it.

Dude, I knocked him out with your help. Thank you! The one thing I did do wrong I must’ve missed in your video, was making sure that I started on the shallow end of the wheel where the bead would fall down in the center of the well the low part, if you will.I tried the other way with the deep well by accident and it was horrible. Took me one minute when I got smart enough to turn it around. Lol thanks again.

Great video man. Did the same thing today and wish I saw this video first. Had to learn while doing. And don’t forget that loads of garages can’t mount such small tyres. That’s why I had to do mine by hand.

Great video. Useful tips I learned over the years, on reluctant tires put a ratcheting strap around the center and crank it up to force the rubber side wider. Water poured over the rim where the tire seats on the rim will help it make a seal faster. We used to put the tires on and slam them down on a piece of plywood on the ground to force the rubber out onto the rim. More lube equals less muscle needed.

Your video was really helpful everything you said was true about having to take it to a dealer. I checked on a set of tires for my fourtrax 300 and the price he gave me I went on line an bought them, so by the time I would have had to load, drive and wait to get serviced it adds up. I did it myself in an hour or less. Great video!!👍🏻

Good video! Water and dish soap in a spray bottle make mounting and dismounting easier. Screwdrivers will work, but some cheap tire spoons are very nice especially for dirt bike tires with tubes. Screwdrivers will pop a tube. The trick with the car to break a bead loose is very good.
