You can also soak rashguards, gis, and any training equipment in White Vinegar. It breaks down the ammonia accumulated in the gear (why it smells like old piss when they warm up or get wet) and makes it wash cleanly again. I either soak the gear in it then wash them normally, OR make a wash load with just white vinegar instead of detergent THEN wash normally. Works flawlessly and doesn’t wreck your gear.

Just don’t use too much vinegar lol. Soaked one of my rashies in some white vinegar and now it has a hint of vinegar even after several washes. It’s faded a little but still present

The camera on the right isn't the same frame rate as the light so you have that flickering that you can see on the walls. Btw great topic, never enough talk about hygrine on the mat. One time i saw a guy with literal black soles of his feet, told him to go to the bathroom and wash it. Next time i saw him i told the coach, and after the class i hear him casually talking to someone about how he has to walk 2-3km to the bus stop and i notice him exiting in his flip flops...and i realize his feet are dirty from that walk to the dojo in flip flops...and i go and tell that to the coach, who said he'll talk to him. That wasn't an issue after that, clean feet.

For bad breath, make sure you are washing your mouth guard. Pick up some denture tabs from the chemist, and give it a soak for a few minutes.

I got cut by a toenail a couple weeks back, never came to much. Before I even stepped foot on a mat I made sure I knew a bit etiquette first. It’s more than disgusting it’s ignorant as fuck as well. Surely people know they smell though?

Boys i nearly lost an eye at a tournament last year. Masters 2 got merged with Adults. First match we both pull guard and i get toes in both my eyes. Dirty kid had toenails like Wolverine. Took a lump out of my cornea. Feels like glass in your eye. Blinded me for a few days and still gives me trouble. Highly sensitive. Trim your nails kids

When I started showering right before practice, that’s when I got staph. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Removing your good bacteria from your skin too close to class, and then putting it through the ringer, doesn’t seem like a good idea.

@binneybrush I agree, I got complaints about my smell despite the fact I’m always meticulous with my hygiene. Out of all the people I grappled with I liked the smell of precisely zero people but I just get on with it. People need to except that grappling is uncomfortable.
