How is your back doing? I've had 2 back surgeries (discectomies). They were in 2008 and 2011. I just signed my son up for BJJ and really want to do it myself but wasn't sure if my back could handle it since I had surgery in the past, and it's never felt back to pre-surgery days. I'm still careful about lifting and other things with it. Disc replacement wasn't even presented to me as an option back then, and they said if I had to have a 3rd surgery I'd probably have to have a fusion. How does the disc replacement hold up in BJJ?

Started when I was 16 . Got four stripes on white belt, then started at a Gracie academy. Had to restart from the beginning. Got my blue belt at 19 and trained for about 2 years until I plateaued. Now, I’ve only gone about 10 times in the past year. I’m 23 about to turn 24. I love the sport and I love rolling but I can’t find the motivation to continue showing up to class considering I only get paired with white belts and brand new blue belts since. Can’t help but get annoyed and it destroys my motivation to try to better my game.

35 yr old White belt that’s addicted. You guys know the feeling. I was close to promotion at my home gym (instructor told me). I Took a job away from the house and started at a new gym, so it’s basically like my time has restarted unfortunately. I’m a 6 month No stripe white belt. It’s irritating then I remember how long it took Joe Rogan to get his black belt roughly 16 years from when he started Then I remember Jocko Willink was a blue belt for 5 years because of moving and deployments. Everyone’s journey is different. I will say this. The belt just ties the gi on. There is nothing more satisfying than being a no stripe white belt and catching a blue -brown(I’ve not tapped a black belt yet) slipping up and getting a submission. Learn those sneaky moves and try and get them within the first 15 seconds of the roll because after that they will dominate you

White belt ;) I started in the self defense world, became an instructor in krav maga. So I already had a ton of grappling experience, because krav just borrows whatever works from everything. Started training with some MMA guys. The coach happened to be a sambo guy mainly but also a BJJ instructor. I talked him into teaching stand up and grappling a few times a week with me to my Krav students because I just think it's important to be good at fighting period in self defense. So years later I've had about 900 private sessions as well as a good amount of grappling experience overall without ever getting a belt rank. I still think if I walked into a BJJ gym I'd be white or blue maybe because I just haven't grappled a bunch of high level BJJ guys, just a bunch with my own coach and a few other talented guys, but I still think people would be like what the hell if they saw me grapple assuming it was my first time.

In turn At 4:13 I can't see an explanation for Brock's "oopsie" other than Mike's well timed sweep (I think Brock tried to smash and Mike hit Brock's knee). Mike gave a good fight, If he can learn to avoid those underhooks, the next roll will be his :-) !
