Closed guard is making a comeback these days, and for good reason. It offers a lot of control along with attack options in combination like the ones in this video. This sequence is sure to elicit some responses that will lead to advancing your position, if not catching a submission.
These quick sequences and tips are fun and great, but for more detailed info check out my Patreon page and follow along with my class instruction and other premium content!

My gym is consist of modern guard players. I'm one of the guys who play closed guard in my gym. This sequence really made them thinking about doing closed guard as well. I love kimuras and guillotines and they compliment each other. Keep up the channel! Gonna check out your patreon next.

I've always preferred closed guard, even as a know nothing whitebelt, it just feels secure. I know that it probably seems pedestrian to guys who prefer spider guard or open or butterfly guard, but it just always felt the best for me, whether it be competition (which I don't really care too much about) or especially self defense (which I care greatly about). Great series on the kimura Mr. Knight! Great video with great instruction as always!

I’ve noticed that when u go for a kimura from guard, that when u sit up to weave the arm thru to go high up by the bicep or shoulder even if u have the length. Cuz a solid defense for a low on the arm attempt is to take your free arm and push down on the persons top arm that’s trying to weave thru. U can easily frame in them and pull the arm out. So go high up when attempting the kimura

Love that roll to the Kimura finish...! Two questions: 1) there is some debate over whether to keep your thumb on the bottom or bring it up top with the rest of your fingers for the Kimura (your thoughts 💭 - matter of preference)? 2) that Guillotine looks like an air choke; you prefer that over a blood choke in that position?
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 1. The angle and direction that the lock hits, along with the angle you were able to establish in relation to the person prior to the lock, determine whether the thumbful or thumbless grip is most appropriate. It can vary a lot in Kimura. 2. I always prefer blood strangles to air chokes, but sometimes the position just isn’t conducive to it.

Hey Eli. Ive been watching your videos for a while and have considered getting a grappling dummy to try and practice a variation of moves. Any thoughts on if you recomend the grappling dummy? Ive heard both positive and negative.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 жыл бұрын
I like just a regular throwing bag without arms and legs for a lot of drills. The next dummy I’m going to get will probably be the BJJ9000 as it looks like a really good design. But I haven’t tried it yet.

Great video! I have two questions, both regarding the last technique. 1) What are you using to scoot back? Are you lifting your weight up with your hand and pushing back with your legs or is it something else? 2) How easy is it to get the timing on the scoot back? Is your window to get it quite big or not so much?
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks and good question! The scoot is best done, in my opinion, by putting the weight of my arm (tricep area) on the opponent’s back allowing me to scoot and shrimp to the side I need and to expose the space around his neck I need for the choke.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 6 жыл бұрын

Hy Eli... hope you can help me even more then you are helping us all with your amazing work on yt. I recently lost from 102kg to 88 (90) kg 185cm.. before i had love handles and now just abs and looks rly nice.. eh but problem is that i feel like i gas out to fast.. do one class and i am done till sparing come i am dead as fuck.. just tapped out on 2nd round from being in side control.. and i didn't use strenght at all and usually i could sleep in that position for days -.- any advice? Do i need to put some weight back or any trick that i can keep this fency beach look and get some practical cardio back -.- I mean i could hold up till end of the round without being submited but didn't wanted to force much since recently i had shoulder injury nothing major but the strenght isn't right there yet. Also eating 1 time a day for 4 5 days the new way of eating.. hope you can give some tips on it or opinions ♤♡

Well, that all depends on a number of factors: your age, the speed at which you lost the weight, your metabolic rate, caloric breakdown of the meal you eat. If the numbers all look right on paper with your approach to diet and your conditioning routine outside of training is solid, then I would suggest getting your hormone levels checked because sometimes a transformation like that, especially when you are losing energy, could lead to negative impacts on your test levels or thyroid function. Find you an endocrinologist if you can and get checked out. I’m no expert at all in this area.

Eli-san. What or how did you in last deal mentally when you hit a plateau. Or you didn’t seem to improve. Sorry to ask a general question and something a specific move or technique. I got my plateau today. Everything was wrong. Everything I did today didn’t work. Even with the smaller guys that normally I dominate. Do you think it’s just an off day. I have t had one yet. I’m the 1 year 2 mo that I have been training. Usually it’s 50/50. It today it was 100% bad. I have a tournament ina month. And today gave me doubts about it. Thanks for any ideas.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that feeling. I’ve had it a lot over the years for sure. The main thing is keep training. Find something different to focus on in your game or outside of your normal focus. Hit a seminar or two. Run different drills or focus your rolling on more specific aspects or positions. Basically just switch your focus up and make it entertaining so you aren’t as focused on the problem areas. That would be my suggestion.
@mrrob5851

Knight Jiu-Jitsu thanks. That helps a lot. There aren’t really any seminars where I live in japan. That’s where your videos suffice for that loss of extra training to attend. Thanks so much.

Hi Eli. I'm wondering if the half guard pass where you push on the guy's thigh and get your leg out of the half guard is legitimate. I made this picture to explain what I mean. imgur.com/a/4maLb11 If it is legit, can you do a video on it?

Oh for sure. It isn't without its problems, and you have to be careful not to expose the arm for attack or off-balance yourself. But it works and I use it sometimes. Depends on the situation.
