Probably one of, if not the single most useful videos I've seen regarding paracord. I was introduced to making paracord bracelets, keychains, monkey fists etc. in December of 2015 after having a total knee replacement and was laid up in my home for 3 months while recovering. Anyone that knows about making things with paracord knows that it is addictive and also takes a lot of practice. After watching this video, I learned things that I never new about paracord and it will certainly come in handy when planning my next my paracord projects. Thank You very much for the information.

I've been researching paracord for 2 days now and found little info outlining the real differences. You sir have presented a clear and extremely informative video on the matter. I can now purchase with confidence. This is the only video you've made that I have viewed so far, but now I 'll be checking out the others. Great job!

Great info man! I've actually been looking into carrying a thinner type of paracord since most things I use it for doesn't require anywhere near 550 lb tensile strength.

I learned today, thanks to this video, that my _"Mil-Spec Type III"_ paracord is *not* _"Mil-Spec"_. However: it is 100% nylon according to the Amazon description; it has 7 * 3 ply inner strands making up the core, and the sheath is too fiddly to count the strands (I just tried) but doesn't fray easily. I got duped! :-( It is though, a very good quality cord, so although not strictly adhering to the _specs_, is good for general purpose use. I was recently advised by a local sporting goods store owner, that I can legally carry knives (they sell) that I may not (UK legislation). If I didn't know better, their advice could have landed me in prison for up to 4 years, after which time I would be expected to also pay a large fine. I did know better, and corrected them. Unsurprisingly - they argued and got very defensive. Unfortunately, some people (too many) talk utter sh*t and want nothing more than to take our money. I'm now going back to Amazon to amend my review :-) Thanks for the info.

I watch good videos to the end, and was already looking forward to it. :-) For commercial grade cord, the stuff I have is good IMO. I actually like that the sheath doesn't easily fray, and have no need of the ID strand. Still - it'd be nice if these people didn't lie.
@jiujitsu20009 жыл бұрын
+Fred Gandt there are many excellent commercial grade power cords out there to buy. in fact, I buy a lot more commercial grade than I do military grade.

I got a 1000 ft roll of "Type 3 mil spec paracord" on ebay. Obviously it is not mil spec because there is no color identifier. There are 7 strands so it seems to be type 3 commercial grade. But it feels very cheap and flimsy compared to other paracord I've gotten. It seriously looks like a shoelace. I think maybe the sheath is just really cheap. Any idea what it could be? Maybe it's polyester instead of nylon?

There is basically, you're right. However there are some myths to paracord. #1 that something weighing550 lbs can be carried by paracord, g force cuts that to %20-. Basically, 550 cord is rated to carry 50-100 lbs safely. nd that's untouched. When knotted, melted, fused, exposed to sunlight, or rotten, it becomes weaker. So under 50 lbs is more like it with a single strand. Also, mil spec has to be tested, otherwise it ain't mil spec, and , most critically, you can't see the difference with your eye because counting the thousands of fibers or gagging the thickness of the fibers is impossible. Civilian is one kind, then mil spec. But mil spec has three handicaps, it is often only available in dull colors, it is thicker and more difficult to use and knot, and it is much more expensive. So it isn't worth a %10 increase in strength to me. And that's just 550 talk.
