From 2:57 on out Eugene Pitts & the Jive Five deliver some of the greatest sounds ever recorded in doo wop, R&B or Rock n Roll. That great. Thanks Marty, catlarry.

The Jive Five, an outstanding group who always give their best. To Johnny and Francis, I state that growing up in the middle to late 50's, and listening to "Doo-Wop, the greatest sounding music to one's ear," was an emotional high. Each day brought many great sounds that was impossible to vote the best. Kids of the past 10 to 15 years have nothing to look forward to. Their generation had the opportunity to follow in the foot steps of groups like the Jive Five.

Thanks, catlarry. I've loved these guys and that song since 1960. It never grows old. They don't seem to either. Eugene has one of the finest voices in the biz. Bless 'em all--

The snare drum sound is maybe the best I have ever heard besides Ringo and Charlie.

Dear Johnny, I am 40 but since I was 11 I have the same feeling... I think I was born in the wrong time. I always dream about to travel in the time and go back to the fifties... I will always have this dream. I love this time, I love doo wop...

Thanks to catlarry for this awesome find! Eugene had an awesome falsetto that he used to maximum emotion and, let's face it, their choreography wasn't as professional as Honi Coles' was with the Temptations, but it was real and as "street" as it could get. The fact that the Jive Five came from the Bed-Stuy projects, and never hid that fact from anyone, made 'em all the more appealing for this Puerto Rican-White Jewish kid from the Bushwick 'hood.

This was an absolute perfect set!!! The mix on this combined with their talent made for a great showing!!! He kind of reminds me of the way Marvin Gaye would have ended this song as well.

Great recording. I can hardly believe after frequenting KZbin for so many years watching/listening to Doo Wop oldies I just stumbled upon this posting today. I happened to record the same program back then on my RCA toploader VHS. I still have that VHS tape boxed away, haven't watched it in 20 years or more. If I recall correctly, the PBS show (at the show's beginning) was titled Lamp Post Oldies, and had a graphic showing street lamp posts at night giving off their light. Long live Doo Wop!

Me too. I heard on public TV in 1982 and spent years tracking it down til I found it here. Some sound you just can't forget!

Remember when this was on TV. Recorded it but later taped over it because those tapes cost so much at the time. Thanks for bringing it back.

@catlarry Yea, I had the whole show on Beta. But, alas, the machine died, and I had no way of recovering it. Sure wish it would come out on DVD. Heck, if it came out on Blu Ray, it would be the incentive for me to splurge on a Blu Ray player!

This is a song that, sort of, fits 1 of my stories in life...except I was OK with my best friend marrying a girl that liked me first...but, she was not my type, pretty but controlling and me and don't get along...me and her are still friends but her and my best friend have divorced since...he also married another woman I was with first...but, no harm done...it's weird but we had that understanding...they divorced too...later in life, she had to go to Detox where I worked...I wouldn't accept her so I referred her out...we had a big meeting over her staying in our Detox, but I won...the Head Counselor was trying to do a favor for someone but I let everyone know that she still had power over me so she had to be referred out...the Boss said, I could get support from my other coworkers, but I told him that I worked alone and so I won and she got referred out...the Head Counselor didn't like it, but "oh well, you will get over it..." End of Story...🙃

Eugene Pit was a humble gentleman who had the voice of an angel. I told him that when I was fortunate to meet him in Pittsburgh in 2002. Thank you for speaking with me Eugene. Rest in Peace.
