Wish there were more JJs in this world that didn't fall for the vanity trap like most do.. Thanks for showing us how simple austere compositions can be so melodic. Your music allows players at all levels to pick up their axe and start playing and improvising right away. RIP JJ.

J.J. mentions David Teegarden right in the beginning of this. Used to see a 2-man band at small clubs named Teegarden and Van Winkle back in the day. They were great and so much fun. Never knew they were Tulsa guys, but makes sense looking back. They had that groove. Thank you SO much for posting this.

Each of his songs is like a little idea that he throws out there, then turns and walks away. They are so understated. Then occasionally someone else comes along and picks up the idea and makes something huge out of it.

Thanks for the upload. Love this guy. The laid back, mysterious, nervous wreck. I can relate to the anxiety business. I own the company! That's why his music just clicks right into place for me. I find it all very soothing ~ both the grooves & the mellower tracks. Watching this actually helped me understand why I like his stuff so much. If he was a nervous type, then it was cathartic for him. Works much the same way for me. I have no record store to run down to anymore, JJ, but eBay & Amazon are just a click away. Just bought Shades & Grasshopper again this past week because they started skipping. Those albums are getting harder to find brand new (or are very expensive). Love some brand new remasters on CD, but I'm guessing that would be almost impossible these days. 🎸✌

Absolutely right, but also after many years in which I know him and his music, I like to think that J. J. Cale still remain _for the chosen few_.
@billwalker48365 жыл бұрын
@@STRAWBERRYSTUDIO2 spread the word. I walked into my favorite used music outlet here in Lubbock Ralph's Records. It was slow and I was chatting with the hipsters behind the counter I asked them where I would find the JJ Cale selections and of course this 25-35 y/o group hadn't heard of such. Myself only having heard how about him once in the mid-eighties and getting acquainted recently, started explaining to them about the songs that he had pend that other people had done and they were all quick about looking at their cell phones and typing into the computer... Oh yeah really oh wow those are really good songs and I said yeah. Yeah now where's this music at here in the store. "I don't think we have any" they started looking real hard a couple of guys even came over and started looking through those collections on the wall which they have several hundred thousand CDs in that place but sadly no JJ Cale... so I keep searching to fill in some blanks in my pitiful little collection. I came across the Breeze, the Eric Clapton and friends appreciation of JJ Cale and I also came across Travel Log but it's kind of Slim Pickens out there maybe I need to go to Tulsa and look around and see what I can find I know it's easier to look around on the internet but I don't put my credit card numbers out there so I make it hard on myself...I guess, but I get by.

@@billwalker4836 Hey Bill, interesting read! And yes, you can find all Cale's vinyl online. But right, you'll need a credit card or PayPal usually. They're releasing his later stuff on Vinyl too, like Closer To You, etc... in the next coming months. They're banking on his passing, unfortunately, but the older stuff, Naturally, Really, Okie, etc are still moderately easy to find on vinyl!
@markchip15 ай бұрын
I first heard Naturally in boarding school back in the early '70s, and I was absolutely hooked on his music from then on - now it's 50 years on! The man definitely IS an absolute genius and a certifiable legend, despite whatever he claims to the contrary!!!

Great to see so many videos of JJ Cale, considering how extremely reclusive he was during his lifetime. If KZbin had existed forty years ago (instead of fking MTV!) guys like him would have been far more popular and helluva lot richer. Unfortunately the rise of the internet coincided with the rise of mediocrity in contemporary music - result? Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus etc etc.

One thing that Cale does have in common with Mark Knopfler is that they are both so MUSICAL that they can strum rhythm and it sounds like lead. Anything Cale plays, Knopfler backing Randy Newman on It's Money that Matters.
