I don't care of McCarthy starts the season, but short of All-Pro play by Darnold, McCarthy should be QB1 by end of season.

Mccarthy needs at least one year on the bench, but I expect Darnold to get injured, and I expect Mccarthy to be starting by midseason. Darnold holds the ball too long and takes too many sacks. He will likely get concussed and end up with bruised ribs, and of course he will fumble often. When Mccarthy does start, they should let him hand the ball off a lot and throw the ball away at the drop of hat.

Darnold will start until at least the BYE week. If JJMc is ready by the trade deadline I can see them moving Darnold for hopefully a 2nd and/or 3rd (maybe a 1st and 4th if Darnold comes out ballin')

So many Vikings’ fans making these crazy predictions out of fear. They want to project that a terrible starter turned career backup suddenly overperforms and starts the entire season. Did Dobbs stop being streaky? Did Mullens stop going YOLO? Did Cousins stop checking it down on 4th and 8? Coaches can only do so much. Guys are who they are. Fans so afraid of finding out if McCarthy is the guy. Postpone it rather than just facing it. Makes no sense. Let the kid play as soon as he knows the playbook and can run the offense. I think McCarthy wins the starting job in training camp and never looks back. Guy has that dawg in him and is super confident and competitive. Darnold is not.

Why? In what universe? Unless McCarthy is just as much of a bust as Darnold, he is absolutely becoming the starter this season. Darnold is a journeyman backup that got his HC fired and is already on his 4th team. Darnold has shown us who he is. Believe him. If McCarthy doesn’t win the starting job that is a problem.

If McCarthy cannot beat out journeyman backup Sam “Sees Ghosts” Darnold, then the Vikings have bigger problems than who the 2024 starting QB is. Problems that the next GM and HC will be trying to fix.

I wish he could start week 1 because if Darnold gets benched mid season it will probably mean he’s been playing bad and the team will also be in a bad spot. I hate wasted seasons start the kid day one and see what he has. I’d rather have a loosing season with the rookie then to have a losing season without a guy we already know to be a bust

You are describing a proven method of ruining a rookie QB. Woulld you rather win one or two more games this season and be back in the QB market in two years from now (i.e. Bears) or give your rookie QB the time he needs to understand the NFL and be successful (i.e. Packers, Chiefs,...)?
