Best throw of the game is at 4:42. I don't dislike him, but there's really just not much to say about this. I like how decisive he seems to be. He's at least confident in his scheme, and that is a good thing. I'll need to watch more to see what the system is like, but there really wasn't much to evaluate here because of how many throws are scripted like they are. A full third of his completions were designed swings and screens. He's a dang good athlete, but he's rarely asked to thrown downfield. He completed two passes that traveled more than 10 yards. That's not sustainable in the NFL. I need to see more of this scheme and more of McCarthy. Just too many question marks.

Im sorry but all I see is Steelers Kenny Pickett + Desmond Ridder + a little bit of Zach Wilson gunslinger moxie. Effective at not screwing things up on a stacked team but what happens when he's on the Broncos and he's at Arrowhead or something. The idea I guess is to invest and believe he'll get better as he gets older.

Big JJ fan, the two nits I had from this game: 3:47 this throw should have been layered over the LB/S. He got lucky here - I know he said he knew the LB would turn around but I don't buy that at all lol 7:26 I thought he should have ripped this one to the left of the LB and between the safeties to Wilson on the post route rather than taking the checkdown to Barner Overall a good game, OSU's pass rush+coverage were winning their reps against Michigan's guys
@germanicusternus19823 ай бұрын
The strength of their team was definitely not their receivers lol.
@lathanjoblin3 ай бұрын
For sure agree abt the read at 7:26 but tbf he had already moved on from that progression when the receiver was still in double coverage. I actually do believe the point about the lb turning around at 3:47 because his hips are turning already before JJ gets into a full throwing motion. Thank you for the point abt 7:26 tho I totally didn’t catch that haha.

I've watched two of his games now, the other vs Bama, and I just don't understand why anyone puts a first round grade on this guy. He lives off the dink and dunk and anything past 10 yards seems to be a serious hit or miss for him. He has some legs but everyone in college has legs. I don't see anything special.
@Big10footballjunkies3 ай бұрын
He will be a 1st rounder for sure. The NFL scouts will love him as he has very good accuracy, has the size, speed, arm strength, but the other thing he has is the intangibles. Anyone around him just raves about him as a person, leader and positive influence around the team. Unless he doesnt do well in the interviews or the work outs I dont think he will make it past the #15 pick. Just my opinion.
@MwKShield13 ай бұрын
@@Big10footballjunkies I don't agree at all. Idk about him as a leader but he does not have what it takes. His ceiling is Jimmy G at best. Dude can't make a throw past 10 yards to save his life. Just in these highlights of this game he missed on multiple targets. We will just have to agree to disagree I guess. Thanks for the video

Watching jj. He might a top 2 qb going into the nfl draft. That throw at 3.49 is an absolute beauty. Knows the coverage they are in. So he knows he doesn't have to worry about the defenders turning around

It's called an anticipation throw. He motions the wr to identify if it's man or zone. Once he realizes it's man. He knows the defender is watching the wr instead of the qb Could the defender break the coverage and look back sure. He does for a second before looking back on the wr, and he has no time to react due to the speed of the ball It's basic football

9/10 times in the NFL that's a pick. if that's the type of high risk play JJ is good at, he's no better than Zach WIlson

From where I am sitting he's a Blake Bortles clone but actually a good athlete for position, whereas Blake was just chalked up to be one but never was. He should absolutely go back to school but if he gets to sit for 1+ years in league it will go a long way towards him maximizing whatever potential he may have.
@Big10footballjunkies5 ай бұрын
Blake Bortles? JJ doesn't look or play like Bortles did. JJ has made more big time level throws through 2 years of college than Bortles did for his entire college and pro career. JJ was also very banged up in this game. I think JJ will come back and it should help him being under Campbell for another year. Plus it should help Orji a ton as well so he can either take over or compete with Davis for a starting job when JJ leaves.
