J's 5 big strengths are 1) communication skills - having played at a very high level for 15 years he identifies with & understands from the player's point of view. Players will connect more easily with him, knowing he speaks from playing experience. 2) Basketball IQ & analytics & a love of the game. JJ takes this seriously which is essential for optimum usage of players in the right schemes. 3) JJ is flexible using different players and schemes for different situations. He will not try to impose inappropriate schemes that confuse and weaken the team effort. 4) Management of time-outs. As a recently retired ex player, JJ is well aware of pace and momentum in a game and when a time-out is necessary. I believe his management of time-outs will be good. 5) 3 point shooting. JJ admits he was not blessed with natural talent but worked very hard on his shooting. He achieved a career average of 41.5% in 3 pointers. JJ will be excellent in developing & guiding the Laker's 3 point shooting. He will guide them to practice the correct way. - mechanics and situation.

On the Hawks, Trae Young can shine -- because it's the east and he is their first choice on offense with about 18 shots per game. On the Lakers, he'd be demoted to a third or 4th option on the offense. Also, LBJ likes to control the ball so Trae will be less productive as a PG. Lastly, at 6'1 and 164 lbs., Trae is a tad small and light for being an NBA guard for the West and he could be a defensive liability in many matchups.

Absolutely clear 2 reasons why Ham was fired was " player development " and "attention to detail".... The difference is worth atleast 5 wins if our stars remain healthy thru the season ..
@danleftwich59112 ай бұрын
100 percent right. "Player development" is a response to Max Christie's exit interview. Attention to detail means running a lot more set offense with movement (so AD, aka The Hub, "knows what they are doing"), stopping most of the brain dead, sloppy turnovers, and paying freaking attention to guarding the 3 point line. The "we're going to use math" comment was all about the analytics and the math problem from 3 that the Lakers lost most of the time. I'm excited. Let's go!

I like that they are emphasizing young core but they can’t say they need longer, athletic two way players and want to trade Vando. He’s their best perimeter and on ball defender. Too value to trade. I want to keep Rui and Vando but if you have to choose, pick Vando. Ultimately they can still make a good trade without either if DLo opts in

The road from words to action is a short road. let's see if those words manifest in winning action. Nothing was said about JJ's ability, if he has it, to devise strategies and plays as the demand for them present themselves in tight win or lose situations which Ham apparently did not have much of. Find out the reasons for so many serious injuries and correct them.

BTW, the comment about being 29th in the league in offensive rebounding and getting better by crashing from the corners is analytics too. So many times AD was on the floor under the basket and the guys in the corners are in no man's land, so expecting them to get back in transition is a losing proposition. You are better off stopping transition by getting more offensive rebounds. Think Aaron Gordon killing the Lakers with second chance points from the dunker's spot or the corner. Again, it's math.
