What do you expect, you are stealing the child out of his mother's arm probably on a false report or falseness you have done, the bible has alot to say about your profession, I hope you search your soul and make a wise choice, yes the kids will hate you, you take them and put them in dangerous situations and drug the crap out of them, studies show child victims of CPS all have PTSD, find another line of work if you care.

Nobody Knows you know social workers do more than CPS correct?? Also there are regularly children who NEED to be removed from the home because of abuse and neglect. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You’d be screaming the system failed some of them if they were left in an abusive home

Nobody Knows it’s not stealing a child for a start, social works whole agenda is to keep the child with their family as much as possible as it is way better and healthier for the child to remain with their family, only in extreme circumstances should a child be considered for removal from their family. For example neglect, abuse

Thank you for sharing this story! What a scary in incident. I remember the first moment I ever had the "is my job safe" thought, and it was terrible. It made me question a lot of things about my life. And I do home visits, so there is a particular concern because we have no one with us top protect us in the moment.

I live in the U.S., and I know in some states they mandate visits to be done in 2's. Unfortunately, the agency I work for doesn't require it. We are literally told to carry pepper spray and be ready to run at a moment's notice. It's rough!

Of course everyone's safety is very important!! Was this really the best way to deal with someone who is in a psychotic or manic state? Isn't it possible that she was so stressed for money because she was being abused by a partner who was forcing her to find money somewhere? Now she's banned forever... I understand keeping everyone safe from her explosive behavior, but literally where can she go. Is eventual jail her only option? There must be better plans for these people. Schizophrenia, bipolar, or whatever she is suffering from isn't something she chose. Why does society think it's okay to throw these people away? It's really disappointing... I was chased and I had to hide in an office while working as a direct support professional from a man who had a psychotic break. It was terrifying AF, but his meds were being adjusted at the time and I didn't take it personally because it wasn't personal to him. It allowed me to learn what that blank expression means, and I am glad he wasn't turned away or anything because of that.

Oh yeah we need to be careful when we work in this field w/ people who may potentially be harmful when they are not mentally stable or is in desperate need of help and not getting their needs met which may sometimes make things escalate. I had a colleague who once got a concussion when her client suddenly got up and bang her head against the door. My colleague was on work comp for 9 months and also developed PTSD. So all in all we need to take care of ourselves first before we can take care of our clients.

well, good luck keeping her outside an institution, I'd suggest she's inevitably going to come in contact with the criminal justice system (if she hasn't already), based on your description, future goals (for her) could include -anger management (self-de-escalation etc) -understanding boundaries/ improved interpersonal skills -financial counseling (to identify and remedy reasons she's looking for a handout) -treatment for substance abuse issues (if applicable, which I'd suggest it is) -promoting insight to realise and avert her own role in ongoing crises You're really up against it in cases like that, by the sounds she's come in with something of a sense of entitlement (an unspoken dialogue that says "gimme something for nothing") and when you've challenged or refused that, it's escalated to the next default coping strategy which is intimidation, when that's failed, next step, actual violence. Sad to say, many people grow up (even in first world countries) where the learned, modelled behaviour is to use methods like this to get what you want, she may well be from an environment, or even a community where lashing out like that is to some extent an accepted social norm. Your only real option in the immediate aftermath is boundary setting through normal channels (ie police, courts, etc). Will it effect your therapeutic relationship? no doubt, but hopefully it'll reinforce sufficiently that kind of behaviour isn't acceptable for the next person who comes along to be able to make a dent. You're likely dealing with long-established learned, reinforced patterns of behaviour and underlying thought processes, they can be unlearned, but not easily, and not without the impetus to do so. Consequence arisal helps provide that impetus. Consciously I'd suggest the extent of her willingness to engage is more about obtaining financial advantage, which isn't to say that she can't be helped on a meaningful level of course, it just means you have your work cut out since a large chunk of her presentation is likely geared towards "how can I present in a way to maximise my chances of getting free stuff" rather than a state of malleability required to garner insight needed to bring about lasting effective change.

lol, I figured that out after I posted all that, still, unless she has some Saul-on-the-road-to-Damascus epiphone she's going to be SOMEONE'S service user and she sounds like at least three of my neighbours, so her's is a personality type you're likely to encounter more than once. I understand your safety concerns, but when you think about it, you're directly contributing to making society safer, which then positively impacts on your personal safety, so in effect, you're being quite pro active about improving everyone's safety across the board. You mentioned you enjoy exercise, ever considered Aikido? I took it up a few years ago after I'd been assaulted and it became a way to turn a negative into a positive, great for fitness, a social outlet, and really, it's a bit like a moving meditation. Any martial art would work of course but I like the non-violent focus of Aikido, the goal is to immobilise the other person in a non-injurious way, so kind of perfect for the application.

You definitely triggered some people with this video. There's quite a bit of negative comments from people who've likely experienced negative situations with "CPS" or Social Workers and it's quite sad that they don't understand. I am glad that you were alright after this situation.

Yeah that is true, but it is unfortunate though that there are many social workers from different industries, different organisations who like to abuse their positions on their most vulnerable clients. That is just one scenario but there are times when a social worker can provoke and belittle a very volatile client to becoming upset. (It can also be quite condescending when they also say: "I am sorry that you feel that way." What that means is that they are shifting the blame back onto the clients. Client and social worker abuse is quite common, you are discussing it from the perspective of an abusive client but what about times when social workers have been corrupt and abusive towards their clients? I am sure that can also happen too.

its not something you should be worried about but it is something to be prepared for! :) lots of practise on calming strategies, and self-defence classes are always good to have on your belt (if it ever comes to that).

I love people and I am never someone to judge someone based on what they have gone through. I am a small person with a big heart but my dad was worried about the safety aspect of me going into this job. Do you feel this is the case? Do you see that you make a difference in these people's lives? Any advice or resources would be appreciated!

Rachel L. The safety aspect of social work varies depending on where u want to work. If you don't do any direct work with clients and you do more policy and advocacy work then there is barely any safety concerns. There is a higher risk when you do direct work with client. This also varies depending on what field you work in. Eg mental health or drug and alcohol might carry a higher risk than say working in a maternity ward in hospital. So if safety is major factor for u then research around what field options u can get into and then make a decision. Regarding resources my channel is definitely a great place to educate and keep yourself informed about social work. Read as much as you can too. I hope this helps xx

Hi Rachel, The financial stability is relative. you obtain a wide range of skills that is applicable pretty much anywhere. The money you get from a general social work role is not much if you compare it to the tasks that are required of you. In saying that you can work your way up, you can get into private practice and you can also utilize your skills creatives so you can make extra money. Regarding internships you will have to research and contact local agencies to see if they are happy to hire you. Here in Australia its not too hard to find one and as part of your course you are required to do placement so you get to see the nature of the job before completing your degree.

I cant give much advise around this. But it really depends on what your role is to the driver and to the mentally ill person. Is the car insured? if not the person who damaged it is generally liable to pay for it. Considering the person's illness there may be options around putting together a payment plan.

Wow, it shows just how quickly a person asking for help can turn nasty once they realise they are not going to get money or food, or whatever it is they are asking for. She will probably move onto the next organisation. I do wonder about the privacy issues with a camera though, how do you get around those?

Trina B its to ensure safety of workers. You can't really identify a person by looking at it. Its more to give an idea around how things are going in the room. None of it is recorded either.

I teach in a public school and I can understand. Some of the parents are really ratchet and our principal will ban anyone who comes in verbally abusing the teachers. He will ban them for 60 or 90 days. They can't come inside the building without being escorted by police. Never mind how disrespectful and ghetto the kids are. Spitting on a bus driver? Pouring coffee? Hang in there.

I am unsurprised and to be honest, I actually don't even feel any sympathy for you. In the last three years, I have seen so many lives ripped apart by social workers. I have seen the trail of devastation they leave behind them. I have seen the bullying, the victimisation, the dishonesty and the prejudice. It sounds like one of the most vulnerable members of society was turned away without any significant support whilst watching someone else being given a food voucher. Where’s the equality in that? You are completely lacking any empathy for this person’s experience. Which people in crisis find antagonistic. People with mental health problems are people who need absolute kindness and compassion. When you’re hungry and don’t have anything and have traveled to a service to be turned away and patronised, I can imagine that must be a trigger. The problem is social workers have very little training in de-escalation techniques, assessment and mental health considerations. Thankfully this person didn’t use other dismissive non-statements like ‘moving forward’. A self-governed group becomes corrupt and self serving. Privatisation of this service will corrupt it further. This person in this video, talks a lot about their experience yet struggles to identify with other people’s. Which, when you’re a social worker, is actually a dereliction of duty.
