We just finished off the Great Basin section in Wyoming and are headed back to Chama tomorrow. Where are you at now? I assume your videos are delayed a week or so.

Check out the Continental Divide Backcountry Discovery Route, it runs from Mexico to Canada just like the CDT. You might have been on part of it already. The area around the ice cave is quite similar to central Oregon, we have lava tubes and ice caves as well. Look me up if you ever get back to the Northwest, I love playing tour guide.

Drilling through and using slanted head bolts with lock nuts might be longer lasting. I think that smaller lava rock is thrown rock from volcano burps. I wonder if the dwellings were very safe with irregular shaped stone, you would think it would be risky in tremor movements. There is a number of fault lines running up throw middle New Mexico, but I don’t see any activity recently on my Earth Quake map. I am in Anchorage so When I jiggle around I like to see where the epicenter is. Last week in the car I had to back away from the edge of the bluff when 6.1 hit with an epicenter about 100 miles away.

Hey Jay... how’s that 12V Fridge working out? I’m still on the fence and looking for some additional intel on these units. Have you had any issues with keeping the Fridge in your Rig...(and not moving it into a Bear locker) while visiting any National Parks?
@JayWandersOut3 жыл бұрын
Still working great over 2 years later. Those bear box rules are more for pick up truck drivers leaving coolers in the back of the truck bed. They really don't enforce food in vehicles because surely no RV will take all their food out especially food that needs refrigeration. Just lock your doors all the time when away or asleep and if away from your vehicle close the windows most of the way.

@@JayWandersOut You know, there hasn’t been any mention of 12V fridges being restricted in cars anywhere on any NPS website. The statement simply says that “food” should not be left inside unattended vehicles. Good to hear that your unit is still running strong after 2 years. Amazon Prime is just around the corner, gonna pull the trigger on one.

I understand about being cautious when off-roading alone, and certainly off-highway driving experience should be taken into account. However, I can tell you that your 4Runner could have easily handled what I was seeing there. I've done *much* more extreme stuff than that even in my Nissan Xterra 4WD. The ropy looking lava is called pohoehoe, and the sharp stuff is called a'a. I always remember the latter because it's the sound you would probably make if you stepped on it. Hehe.
