I'm a very healthy 40 years old male and i'm into 2nd week of my episodes. I've been pain free for two years and it's now back. I guess it will take two or three more weeks to end this cyle. I just found that meds that with "triptan" (rizatriptan, sumatriptan, etc.) helps if you are quick enough to take it just as you feel the attack is coming. Water soluable ones take effect quicker. Hope that helps you.

@@emprheanI’m 37 years old and male. Started when I was in my 20’s and without fail, hits about 3-5 years between episodes. Good news, they say you age out of it-maybe. I’m pretty sure my dad had it and he hasn’t had one in decades

Thank you! Very informative. I definitely believe mine are hormone related. I only started getting them around age 45. Always over my right eye and always late night early morning. They’re soooo painful, but they do get better once I wake up. They’re becoming less frequent now that I’m in menopause.

Mine come when the season changes to autumn. If I didn’t have my daughter idk if I’d still be alive. All u want it the pain to go away by any means. Having them has added to my depression and anxiety. They have cost me jobs,loss of friends and social life. They are debilitating and don’t wish them in my worst enemy. Anyone that is suffering with these know you are one strong person!!

I am 66 and I listen to this and I am very thankful for this information. I literally thought this was something that I would die from. My mother had them and I have a brother that has them and my son has them. During the time my mother was alive and suffering they were not called clusters. They were just called migraines. It is really good to get more information on these headaches because that way a person doesn’t feel like it’s something that they are just having and that there may be something wrong there, or perhaps some kind of tumor on the brain. Thank you so much for this information.

Shadow boxing cures mine within 10 min every single time. It has to be a hard core, make yourself sweat and breathe hard shadow boxing. Mixed with jumping Jax and jumping squats to get your cardio going. I’m sure it’s just the fact that I get my blood pumping and oxygen flowing heavy that helps, so try it and come back to let me know if it works. I’ve suffered from clusters for 15 years and this is the only thing that has helped demolish the headache fast.

I've had some really bad migraines before, but after seeing this, I don't think I can compare my pain level to what they experience. A really bad migraine for me is one that hurts pretty bad, but not unbearable, but just lasts for a long period of time. I had no idea cluster headaches were this severe.

I promise you cant.... I've had my leg get caught in a wood chipper and ultimately severed above what was once my knee and that pain came nowhere near just a single one of my cluster headaches. I'd literally give up my only leg left if It meant that I'd never have another cluster period occur ever.... Maybe that puts it in a little bit better perspective for anybody that doesnt know.

mine lasted from sept 2001 to sept 2016.. they just suddenly stopped.. it was the weirdest headaches ever, some times multiple times a day and they would restart again at exactly the same hour and minute that they happened the day before .. i used to buy at the beginning very expensive drugs for it then after about a year i noticed that aspirin with caffeine from bayer or ibuprofen pills with caffeine did the trick for cheap..

I'm an episodic sufferer of this killer condition (he who feels it, knows it) Cycles hit me when significantly chilly/drafty weather comes into my area from up north; cold fronts in particular. The El Niño affect I'm starting to believe is the season my plague comes along with....every 3-5 years or so. Living in a subtropical zone though, I suspect, is what keeps these things at bay, for me at least. My hearts goes out to chronic sufferers who have to endure these horrible attacks way, way more frequently than some others. It's easy to pass these things off as sinus infections, sinusitis and the like, but when you add up all the symptoms, there's no real comparison...apples and oranges in severity. As to my triggers, I can't say with any degree of certainty. For me, it seems significantly chilly cold fronts (sudden changes in weather from warm to chilly/drafty), lack of sleep, perhaps even dust and mold, being even moderately dehydrated I find makes it worse, dry cold air all, in some combinations, play a role in triggering these things in one way or another, but these headaches come on suddenly and can last for hours. I'm actually on the tail-end of a cycle now 🙏and so, while I'm at it, I wanna share my coping mechanism (if there is such a thing with these attacks) in case it can help anyone else: 1. When the sensation is coming on (and you'll know) get to a space as quickly (with safety in mind) as you can. Somewhere you can honker down unmolested for hours, where light, sound, scent and chilly air can be blocked out. 2. Often it's a must to close the nostril on the affected side of the attacks (at least until your sinuses plugs it up with mucus, I use a cotton ball at times to help free up all my fingers) along with reasonable heavy hand pressure on top of the head and temple of the affected side. 3. Put a moisture wicking blanket over your entire body and crouch into ANY position that give any degree of "comfort" (this is almost impossible, but at times, one postion helps more than others) Most times you just have to keep moving and shifting, rocking even to help carry you through. 4. Breathe through the mouth heavily and as you breath out, trap your exhaled air in the blanked with you (if you're at home, make certain that your windows are all closed and sealed, this helps with favorable "air conditioning") 5. Wait it out under these conditions as best you can, and focus on the fact that the attack will eventually go away. There are other "coping" methods, but everyone is unique and certain extremes can be very dangerous, so I won't share a couple others I have, nor will I share some that I foundout from other long time sufferers. Theses things aren't nicknamed "suicide headaches" lightly. Some people end up killing themselves inadvertently from trying to cope with the pain. BE VERY CAEFUL AND KNOW THAT LIFE WILL NOT END ENDURING THESE THINGS. KEEP STRONG NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THESE ATTACKS. SOME CLIJSTERS AFTER A SHORT PERIODS OF REMISSION CAN BE WORST THAN THE MOST RECENT CLIJSTERS BEFORE. AGAIN, STAY STRONG, ALIVE AND WELL.

I'm 35 and have had them since I was a teenager. I just found out last year that if I feel one coming on I will chug an energy drink and it almost immediately goes away. I never drink caffeine but I always keep an energy drink in the fridge just for this, been a lifesaver because these cause some ridiculous pain

I have seasonal one and tried couple of different treatment. What that is surprisingly working well on me is breaking the cycle with steroid. I usually use 60 mg Prednisone for couple of days and then taper off. Sometimes, I need to break the cycle twice but it has been working consistently on me.

I always heard from experts on tv that cluster headaches were called that because they clustered around one side--mainly the eye. Also, how are these different than Hemicrania Continua?
@ponzo1967
@ponzo1967 Жыл бұрын
They are called clusters because they come in bunches. 80% of sufferers are episodic and tend to get 2-4 a day for a period of 4-8 weeks before going into remission for several months. Usually occuring around the same time of year each cycle. There seems to be exceptions around most of this information but that's it in a nutshell.
