Fungal Infection of the Scalp (Tinea Capitis) | Causes, Risk Factors, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment
Tinea Capitis (also known as Ringworm of the scalp, or Scalp ringworm) is a fungal skin infection of the scalp of the head caused by fungi known as dermatophytes. In this lesson, we discuss these dermatophytes, along with risk factors for infection, signs and symptoms (ex. hair loss), a variation of clinical presentations (including Favus, or “Tinea Favosa”, and Kerions), how Tinea capitis is diagnosed and how a fungal infection on the scalp is treated.
