The only snake species I have kept and have been bit by was a garter snake that is native to my area and was being rehabilitated after it had gotten beat up by my chicken. The way it had bitten me was it bit down and then chewed in its mildly neurotoxic saliva. It would, at most, sting a bit when it would work its teeth in, but otherwise, it didn't phase me. I did bleed a bit due to them having a special component in their saliva which causes you to bleed more than you normally would with such a small injury. In addition to my previous statements, baby snakes biting and trying to be intimidating is honestly adorable; because they simply aren't.

The one time I got bitten it was a feeding bite by a thousand gram female when I was changing her water. This particular female tended to just shoot out of the tub before checking to see if she was being fed or the tub opening for some other reason. I had heard so much from people that their bites aren't bad that I was probably more complacent than I should have been and it kind of shocked me that the force was as much as it was. My whole palm turned purple and swelled up for a few days. From then on I always make sure to distract her and stay out of the line of fire before reaching into the tub, or stick a paper towel roll between her face and my hand if cleaning or changing her water. She's not as much on a hair trigger now but I still am more careful when reaching in. Some of my others I can put my hand right up to their nose and they won't strike. I just got a male that's kind of defensive but he's gotten better with handling more often.

Trying to find a video on what might be wrong with him and how bad a bite from him will hurt if it happens. However none of these guys are letting a full grown adult bite them. It like they think babies are the only ones that bite. I’m guessing it must hurt like hell since none of these guys are willing to take a bite from an adult. Also my snake is literally coming at me when I open his enclosure. Getting pretty worried about him.

Our ball python got under the stove recently on his feeding day so we had to try to convince him to come out with food and he wouldn't come out and was very irritated but would only strike at the food (or my hand holding the food) so we eventually had to pick up the oven drawer and I just grabbed him with both hands and while he didn't want to leave the dusty oven floor and was very angry...he still never even tried to bite me and relaxed and became a much different snake once I had him in my hands and out from under the stove. He went from ready to bite anything to very chill and explorative.

I prefer using something to avoid the bite, not because the pain but I hate the adrenaline rush that I got from that strike. And all my ball python had high feeding response, so it had higher chance to constrict my hand.

I’m looking at a ball python for my first snake. I have two friends who own them. My friends female only bites when she knows feeding is coming soon. My other friends male never bites

I get bit sometimes, just one of my snakes personalities is extra! Doesn’t hurt and doesn’t discourage me, I just had to backtrack my socializing and go slow, it was when I first grabbed her she would give me the business so I had to do a few weeks of just being around her and then my hands in the enclosure but moving slow and just never letting it escalate and now I’m trying to get her to come out on her own.

My big female tried to eat my arm once. That was exciting. But didn't hurt. Only the teeth it left in my arm. But she gave me 11 eggs this year in our first clutch. So forgiven.

Hi i‘m very new to the reptile hobby and I dont a snake yet :) but can’t someone just wear gloves while handling snakes to kinda protect the hands?

Is it venomous or non venomous? If they bite what will happen? What we do? Can we go to doctor n take injection?
@tempo18893 жыл бұрын
What I never understood is I have been bit once by my ball python when it was a juvenile and it wasn't really all that bad just put some Neosporin on it and you're basically good to go. I have cut myself on pretty sharp knives cutting fruits and vegetables and that hurt more than a ball python bite if I myself being very nervous to handle my ball python because he has that food Feeding Frenzy thing which I'm trying to break him out of.

So your telling me my cat using my body as a personal jumping board is more painful than a python bite? Swriously, I have scars but I'm way more afraid of my friends snakes 😅
@KINOVAReptiles2 жыл бұрын
Size matters but most likely :) Just like a bobcat or a lion is going to do more damage than a kitten or a house cat, a giant snake will do more damage than a small snake.

What kind of bite is it when you're holding the snake and after some time elapses, it starts chewing on you? (That's what the snake in my profile pic will often do).

My ball python bite me for the first time. I had him for 2 years and never bite me but this time I was not paying attention when feeding him. The bite was in my knuckle. A few seconds later my knuckle got swollen. Its that normal? I read in the internet that it is. I just want to know what people with experience think
@KINOVAReptiles2 ай бұрын
Yes, that's normal. Swelling is your body's response to trauma. Just keep it clean!

From my experience, ball pythons are like the golden retrievers of snakes

Why didn’t you show how to get them off after a feeding response bite? I’m curious how easy that is and how to not hurt the snake in the process
@nathanbrickwood64443 жыл бұрын
I liken it to stinging nettles, it’s the oh dam I touched one that’s the shock, the aftermath isn’t so bad
@dreadocean86483 жыл бұрын
Yea, but what about when they're like 5 foot long

We’re selling 3 of our pythons for half the price, this is because we’re facing a capacity problem atm. Email me if you’re searching for a python.

I'd like to see you try this with a full grown ball python lol 😆 I've been bit by my baby and it felt like a little hot needle but my spider bal python on accident due to his head wobble, he missed during feeding and my pointer finger got the damage instead 😅 he is about twice the size of these ball pythons and his bite gave me no joke 30 holes in my finger and was dripping blood. I felt like I had been hit with a hammer and nails for a second 😅 was swollen and hurt for about An hour. But I have an even bigger ball python who is 4 ft and im scared to find out what his bite feels like 👍
