Jkoo/Sinosword Review part 2 The follow up

Great review! I have 4 Sino custom katana and 2 more to arrive by the end of Feb. I couldn't be happier. Especially for the price. And customer service is second to none. Every time I've emailed Van Yang he has responded within 24 hrs.

Looks pretty cool (oops you called him Randy once lol) Glad this one came out well. How would you rate your experience with Mr. man in black? (side note, think your choice in tsuba and habaki are good). The contrast you show between the saya is also helpful. It looks like they are getting better. Would you buy from JKOO again? I am always tempted to get them to do a custom blade like a hanwei XL.

I'd rate the man in black pretty good. I have limited experience as I've only sent him two so far. That first one came back with a blemish on the blade that wasn't there before. It was small so I never bothered to mention it to him but took photos and video. Otherwise it was excellent and I really liked the work. The second was that simon lee I have a video of. That was pretty good too, but with nitpicky issues like the kashira not having the best transitions... On a tsuka he made from scratch. Also he remade some seppa but made them thinner than the donors so I had to make new ones a couple of time since his got damaged when I was doing rokusho patina. Not his fault I damaged them but because they were thinner stock I couldn't easily use the originals. Both projects were tsuka builds... The next one is blade only so will need everything aside from the tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki I will send. Is definitely consider jkoo again. I've seen that people who want very millimeter perfect specs from them get pretty disappointed, but for their prices you get a heck of a decent amount of effort on their part. If I got another I'd just get a decent folded blade in shirasaya. Would take less time and send it to the man in black for completion with antique hardware.

Matt I got 2 being made from jkoo, 1 is kobuse and the 2nd is mono steel t10..with a 3.2cm width from Kasaki to Yokote so its simular to the Xl...so I let all know how they come out...on paper they look great..maybe December

RE: Man in Black. Four years ago I paid him for a new core and a full samegawa wrap. Looked good when finished. Now what we found out last year when it was time for new tsukamaki, the full samegawa wrap wasn't a full one piece, instead it was a panel full wrap meaning a patch job. Maybe this is why his prices are cheaper than anyone else for a full wrap?

Hahaha. I had a suspicion that was who Matt was referring to. He did a very, very nice job. My sinosword has stood up to over a year of abuse so far. Very good review sir!

Nice! I have requested my JKOO Miao Dao with lots of details. Even told them to make sure the handle wrapping is tight and consistent. And a tang that is peened through the pommel.

Did both those Karan get mounted by the man in black. And if one wasn’t how did you get such good quality koshire. When I go on jkoo website there item are your typical longquan Chinese fittings. And I like the real silk ito. Please help me know how you got your swords like this. And where I can find the man in black.

what is the measurement you've got on blade width from habaki and width from kissaki or yokote? Is that Hazuya polish?

I don't recall... it's been sold for some time now. It was the highest hand polish option If I recall correctly.

Would you help me choose, I am thinking a lot about getting a personalized sanmai jkoo or a taka-chigai skyjiro, which one do you recommend?

Really nice sword! I've been eyeing Jkoo for a while and have been considering getting something from either them or Huawei, which I'm still undecided about. Also really cool to see you bring up Matt! Been a longtime watcher of him ;) Though for the time being most of my money just went to buying one of the all-steel ANH Mausers from Chris! So if I get you to finish it like I want then I might have to sell one of my own swords or two just to free up some funds lol

Awesome man! Between the Jkoo and Huawei... huawei is much better in quality and fit and finish. At least more consistent. Jkoo I might have gotten lucky as there are plenty of reports of issues as well but I think most of those complaints are people wanting specifics in their geometry which is near impossible for them to get exact. I think if you temper expectations you'll be ok. . Huawei doesn't seem to have many complaints at least toward the top of their price range at $500-600
