JL Audio 10W6 v2 Speaker Subwoofer Foam Repair

In this video we replace the foam edge on the JL Audio 10W6 v2 subwoofer. The same steps can be used to repair the 12W6 v2 and 13W6 JL Audio subwoofers.

It’s 2019 but these kits are still great. Just got mine and it looks great. I ordered from a different seller before seeing this and their surround was really light grey so I returned. This one matches the original color almost exactly.

Used this to replace the dry-rotted surround on my 10W6 and it works great now! The glue is strong and high quality, and I have a lot leftover that I could use elsewhere :) Best of all, this saved me a lot of money by not having to replace the whole subwoofer! I just got my re-foam kit in the mail. It fit perfectly and the glue works well. I let it dry for two hours and plugged it back in. The sub works like new and looks brand new. Thank you guys!

Super stoked that I was able to revive my 10W6v2 with just the foam surround replacement. THANK YOU Simply Speakers! I used Goof Off to help break down the adhesive and then rubbing alcohol helped to get the last bits of the adhesive off.

Thanks for this video!!! I had some JL subs that I haven't used for over 5 years. Decided to install them again instead of letting them sit in my garage. But when I installed them and was testing everything out, the foam from my JL subs exploded off. I thought they were ruined and useless, thanks for giving me hope lol.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I repaired my JL W3v2 whose original foam deteriorated badly. I used "gasket remover" spray to loosen and remove the factory glue. Thanx again.

Yes, correct. The 12" version has a lip along the edge of the cone that makes the cleaning a little more tedious.

This was a great explanation. I need to order a re-foam kit, I just ripped my 12w6's surround about an hour again and it sounded horrible. Bottomed out and everything. Hope the coil is okay. :-/

hi i have a brand new lab12 subwoofer and on the foam surround there is a faint white line in the centre of the foam which runs around the entire speaker is this a point where its getting weaker or something not to worry about as it is new there is no breaks in the white line and the and the intensity is consistent thank you in advance

I removed my old surround, but unlike in your video, I've found that my 12w6v2 has a beveled ridge where the outter portion of the surround is glued to. This made it a pain in the ass to clean, as the adhesive was in the recess. I couldn't just run a box cutter around the edge like you did... I ended up using a screw driver.

I know this is an old comment, but I just repaired mine and it as you described it was a pain but I did it I almost used my dremel but I just used a small flathead screw driver and got it done....

I accidently scrapped off a bit of this lip with my knife, as it appears to be really thin metal... Is this lip required there or can I continue to scrape it away? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose. How do you guys typically get around it?

Great video, but there is a missing piece of information at around 00:9:30. The lip of the cone sits about 1-2 cm lower than the lip of the frame, unless you raise the cone from the bottom as shown in the video. But if you glue the foam to the cone, and immediately release the cone, the cone will fall back down and the lip of the frame will pull off the newly glued foam from the cone. What I did is keep the cone raised manually after the gluing for about 30 mins before letting it sit back down, to let it continue drying. Would have been good to get the "official" procedure for dealing with this in the video.

Quick Tip: Place some wadded up paper towels under the cone to help elevate it while the glue cures.

So I did everything in the video, waited a full 24 hours and reinstalled in my car. After installation, I played at moderate levels. But about a day or two later I noticed a buzzing sound when the stereo is played at low to moderate volumes. You can't hear it when the stereo is turned up loud, only at low to moderate volumes. I felt the sub to see if the sound was coming from it and sure enough, when I press on the middle of the cone, the buzzing stops. So my question to you...have you run into this problem before and if so, what's my solution? I'm guessing the glue on the upper cone broke free from the lower cone? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you! Everything is going good, I have a 13w6v2 and I was having trouble with glue on the frame. Nothing was loosening it and with a utility knife or wood chisel, it seemed to start getting to the paint in a couple areas. It's weird cuz over 80% of it is flat/clean, but then I have these small, somewhat raised areas that came up with the knife as crusty off white-ish. I tried a goo remover and then paint came off when I tried the chisel on the small raised area again... If I glue over it, it's nearly perfect on the frame and the cone I had little issue with removing around it, will it end up being a problem? The small raised area is hard as s#!& so I wouldn't think it would cause issues. Thanks. Probably answered my own question lol but yea

The glue on mine is on there so damn good that it took me a good 45 minutes just to get every trace of the glue off the cone. The outside of the frame is taking even longer. Ugh.
