Which belt is the blade belt? I go through a couple of belts on the Yard Man every summer. I let the grass grow until the city gives me a warning, mainly because the state is supposed to cut their half of the steep ditch, the 30 (45?😯)-degree slope by the highway, and they are not always doing it, so I ride the Yardman, standing on the upper edge, ready to jump if it topples. I noticed there was a 1/2" twig that managed to dislodge the blade belt before getting sliced up (the belt is still whole). Thanks for the video!

I seem to remember this mower had 2 blade belts. It's been a while so don't quote me! I think there was an engine to deck belt and then a blade belt on the deck itself..

@@JLPicard440 The blade belt is the lower belt (closest to the ground) so you don't have to remove the drive belt to get at or install a new blade belt. In my case, the belt came off, and was whole. The blades stopped and I saw the belt laying in the grass. Earl (the Pearl) our local 86-year-old fix-it guy (he repairs mowers and tractors) said the drive belt was 2" too long and he could not understand how it had worked before. I had mowed the large yard a few times with it. But it was way too loose now, it was obvious it would not work. Curious. Got a belt that was 2" shorter and that worked fine when I mowed yesterday. Still a mystery about the too long belt. Maybe he had wrapped it around an extra pin or something...

I have the same arrangement on my Huskee 4600 mower deck. My question is, Why is the first pulley after the PTO/flywheel flat instead of a v-belt pulley since the V side of the belt runs around it?

HI, without seeing it I can't be sure. It has been years since I had access to this mower deck. Usually when a pulley is flat it's because the back side of the belt is intended to ride on it and the pulley is grooved because that's where the "V" part of the belt rides. I've never seen one ever, that the "V" side of the belt rides on a flat side of the pulley. If that makes sense.

Yes this one is fixed. Did you look up the model number and get the parts breakdown? Did they change the deck to a larger deck (before you bought it?)

Just got this supposedly 2004 Yard machine 46 inch deck. I have the same configuration for the belt as the one you show. Under the hood it shows the engine to deck belt is part #754 O4122. I ordered that belt on ebay and got from a company called Wildcats a belt stamped with this number but it is way too long. I was thinking someone has replaced the deck with a different year deck. But seeing the belt configuration that is stamped on the deck I don;t see how this much longer belt could work on any deck that size. . I also have a 2005 yard machine that originally had a 46 inch deck that has the same belt part number stamped under the hood. But I bought that mower without a deck and put a 42" MTD deck on it from another yard machine. So I have no way of knowing what size belt to try on this machine. I am beginning to believe they stamped the correct part number on the wrong size belt. I may have to go to a local mower parts store and compare the belts. Meanwhile I will try finding out the length of this number belt on the net and if successful measure the one they sent me. Do you have a part number stamped on your machine for the engine to deck belt? If so maybe you could reply with that number so I can compare it to the number I have.

Yeah just found out that the engine to deck belt that I received from Wildcats on ebay for a 46 inch Yard Machine belt number 754-04122 had the correct number stamped on the belt but their belt was over 100 inches long. I looked up the length of the part number and it is suppose to be 90 1/4 inch long. No more Wildcats for me.

Oh wow... a 10 inch plus discrepancy? That's horrible. I don't have access to this mower anymore. I don't remember if I mentioned the belt part number in the video, or maybe I left a part number in the description... I was going to suggest to take a seamstress tape measure so it's very flexible and measure around the path of the belt would give a good idea of the length it's supposed to be... but sounds like the problem is the belt is the wrong length..

I successfully changed the belt. All routing and guides correct. However, the belt is very loose when the PTO lever is "off" and the belt keeps falling off the drive pulley. Is there a way to adjust the tension?

Are u sure u have the right belt? Are the guides correct.. I know u said they were, but it’s worth double checking if you’re sure u have the right belt

@@JLPicard440 Thanks for replying. According to the parts manual, it's the correct belt. I have since read that only OEM belts will work because the after market belts are slightly larger. I didn't buy OEM. I am confident that it is routed correctly and it's on the right side of the guides. When the PTO is engaged, all's well. When I disengage, it falls off. I've also read about a stretched PTO cable and the possibility of weak springs.

@@williamlongfellow6345 Yes that would account for the belt being looser. Take a look at the idler where the PTO is and see if there's any way to shrink it up a little bit..

HI. I don't know off hand what size the belt is. If you have the mower model number, you should be able to go on www.partstree.com and plug in that model number and get the parts breakdown. Without the actual model number, it's going to be difficult to know which belt it is. Also, if you have the old belt, a lot of the time they print the part number right on the belt. Sometimes its hard to read, but it's usually there.

HI, I don't remember. If you look under the seat there should be a sticker there with the model number. You can take that model number and go to a site like www.partstree.com and plug in the model number to get the parts breakdown. With the parts breakdown you can get the part number of the belt. Is there any chance you could get a vid or pic of the PTO cable routing.. I bought a Yard Man 46" that has been jerryrigged left and right. I replaced the pto cable and I am unable to find the correct routing..

I put the upper deck belt on the exact same way but it's loose. I have the right belt which is 1/2 by 91.4inc. My problem is the blades will not disengaged

I don't remember that. I would take your mower model number and go to partstree.com and get the part number. You can then take that part number and see what length the belt is

Can we get a wider belt on that deck? I go through like 3 belts a year. Mostly my own fault as I let the grass grow way too high. I always keep that deck on the highest level. I'm just wondering if there is a more durable option. I've tried Kevlar and its not that much an improvement.

JOe Shmoe I don't know that a wider belt will ride on the pulleys properly... but if u have one... why not try it? Worst that could happen is you'll burn it up!

Maybe you have a wobbly pulley or bad spindle. either will eat belts.

No definitely not.... the mower is gone so I can't say what the number is,.. but I remember it was different... if u have your model number try going to parts tree is a good place to look it up

Call the supplier for the part number. They will gladly give you the number or look at MTD for parts numbers

Im just now finding out that i guess i have to go get yet ANOTHER belt and no clue on how to find out that number cuz i have not seen ANYTHING about another belt on the diagrams..... BTW, the upper belt is the "DRIVE BELT" NOT a "Deck Belt" as noted in the name of the vid. Drive belts drive the mower, Deck belts drive the Blades... carry on... #USA

Sometimes the belt will have a lot of slack until it's engaged .... If you have a lot of slack when it's engaged, then it's either the wrong belt or the belt path that you followed could be wrong ...
