For your reference, this is exercise from JLPT practice workbook published in 2012.
Hello; the wrong thing about these exams are that thought by people that are not so bright regarding real Life and seem that are library rats. I mean; if a person will take the FIRST test like the N5 (that by the way all these test only work to have a "card presentation" or some kind of degree to fill curriculum to possible find a job but NOT to really learn a Language) how in the World they start talking that way that a rookie in the language cannot understand only a few not connected words? Even worst the textbooks where you are starting to learn hiragana, presentation; etc and have 2, 3 pages with incomprehensible kanji and kana for a person that are starting from zero? When somebody say about n given kani or n given words to know for N5 N4 etc...think in double or triple if not you will be a bit confused wasting precious time doing the test trying to figure out what is the meaning. Then the logic behind...is difficult to understand what they ask due a beginner cannot understand those words that they speak and there is no English or other language like here explaining what is going on. By the way; you never ever learn to speak etc by grammar.

You want to learn Japanese but you find JLPT N5 is too hard for beginners and the textbooks are not friendly enough, right? ^V^
@TheReverb12 жыл бұрын
@@sunandmoon2019 No; I said other things. I know Music theory and is the same in many aspects (and in most fields are the same) regarding textbooks etc. I pointed that if some one is a total beginner the textbook writer or these persons that make these exams cannot start to speaking like that student is just a seasoned one. Other thing is that nobody learn with grammar a Language; only the skeleton of that Language in a robotic way. I know more Japanese than the N5 by the way
@sunandmoon20192 жыл бұрын
I know a bit about music theory (just a bit) and I am curious about why you compare it with a language textbook all of a sudden ^V^ I think most of the Japanese textbooks are not designed for self-learning, so you need a teacher in order to decode it 😂 (many of them are really designed in a bad way...) By the way, JLPT is an international exam (same paper for ALL the countries without localization). I think this is an assessment OF learning (not assessment FOR/AS learning). The goal of such a summative assessment is to evaluate students. Therefore, it is not fair to complain its design because it cannot help students to learn effectively ^V^ (Well, it is another issue about whether JLPT is an effective way for evaluation)
@TheReverb12 жыл бұрын
@@sunandmoon2019 Hi; regarding Music theory textbooks; as mentioned in most fields are the same too. I mean, they never show the "behind the curtain" explanations. Is only a compendium of "tools". What is wrong with that? is that your brain is just wasting energy (and your time) trying to decode and learn how to s that nothing have to do with your final comprehension or your final goals (with Music: to learn how all work and to compose; with a Language; to communicate, to ask, etc) You can learn pretty well how a given tool or many of these tools work but you do not know how to use them actually. That is my point. Also is not the same to learn in an "encyclopedic" way, in which you only accumulate information (so depends on your memory---to then repeat stuff but cannot help to think over---) than to learn to synthesize. You mention a teacher; years ago I taught Music but with a method focused on functionality teaching the theory and "hands on" at the same time; a theory not abstract but directly on what we have been learning or teaching. That is not the way these textbooks try to teach us; again no matter the field. I have been seeing that in many many fields. Then you have the concept that some teachers have: "the step ahead of you" and always maintaining that distance that superiority marked due to the student actually do not know about it...you know; not showing everything; not showing behind the curtain. Happens a lot in Math too. Again; is inappropriate to start a textbook or in this case an exam speaking as you are in the know with language that you never ever heard due to the student is just a beginner; and they only ask you to learn (and is the ONLY that what they teach by the way) for a given amount of Kanji and words...
@sunandmoon20192 жыл бұрын
@@TheReverb1 "never show the "behind the curtain" " ← I couldn't agree more Simply take learning hiragana as an example: Student: Great! I finally learn はひふへほ! Teacher: Now, let's talk about ばびぶべぼ ^V^ Student: 😓(again?) Ok... Student: Great! I finally learn ばびぶべぼ! Teacher: Now, let's talk about ぱぴぷぺぽ ^V^ Student: 😰(again??) Ok... In this case, I think the hiragana system and its origin are the keys behind the curtain ^V^ (Many teachers and textbooks many skip it... ) "Then you have the concept that some teachers have: "the step ahead of you" and always maintaining that distance that superiority marked due to the student actually do not know about it...you know; not showing everything; not showing behind the curtain." To be fair, the best teacher in the world cannot show everything behind the curtain. (time/workload/student diversity...) Besides, one size never fits all. "show everything behind the curtain" is just one way of teaching. It is good, but it doesn't mean that other way of teaching is bad ^V^ More importantly, we should not put too much teaching and LEARNING responsibility on teachers. STUDENTS/learners should be the one taking the major part of it. Teachers are just facilitators. I am glad that we have a great conversation here ^V^
