Just weld the two halves together. No need to remove it first. Worked for me.

A great explanation, thank you Sir.

If it's spins freely in both directions, that would mean the spring is not expanding? So it's either stuck or broken inside?

yes, but you need to block the alternator on the vehicle in order to test it at 100%

Had a dead battery on my Honda, have it check at Autozone they say I have bad alternator, battery was good, since the car only had 50K miles, I didn't think alternator can go bad that early, use my volt meter while the car running checking the voltages it read 14.3v but every 20 seconds I hear click from the alternator the voltage would drop to 12v after few second it back to 14.3v, replaced the AOD pulley, voltage stayed put at 14.3v, save myself $400 .

great, glad this helped

A big problem here is one of perception, the OAD is a newish product that the general public doesn't even know exists, so there's a good chance that the first time any of them learn about its existence is when it breaks/wears out and requires replacement thus costing them money. Obviously this is going to make the product look bad. Litens dropped the ball here, they should have run ads touting the advantages before they were in service long enough to start wearing out. One that you didn't cover in the video is that since you're effectively eliminating the rotor's inertia from the picture every time the engine slows down, these things are just like the lightweight racing flywheels and underdrive pulleys that people install to make the car faster. They literally reduce the shock load to the entire driveline every time the transmission upshifts. I bet that on a WOT 1-2 upshift and most electrical loads turned off that you'll be part way through 2nd before the engine's speed catches up with the alternator again and starts driving it. In that regard it lets the alternator stay "spooled up" through a shift.

Good Vid Jeremy...Any fuel savings or reduction on belt wear is far exceeded by additional maintenance cost, when they require replacement . Seems like a very high failure rate item. Cheers Pal 👍

Thanks Ian, I wouldn't say high failure rate but just like any other mechanical component... you might get a lemon.. kia had a bulletin on some models to eliminate them completely..-- just remove defective pulley and install a standard pulley... I wasn't ok with that, but I don't make the vehicles. I found that was just putting a band aid on a issue. have a good night

If you let the car dealer do it then you will never get the savings back. Replace it yourself and you may save $ 40 over 100,000 miles and that is you buy the new pulley from Amazon and not the car dealer.

This would be great, if the pulleys werent the same price as a whole new alternator. So basically now you need an alternator every 75k miles. Thats the "life of the vehicle" according to warranties. What a crock.
