Just ordered mine to go with my Walthers Hiawatha cars to run a current day 261 excursion train.. couldn't be happier that I got it a BLI reseller aswell to have a warranty, just in case! Good review. Can't want to have my own!

Nice review James, the 261 is definitely a famous engine for many people and I think it still runs today.

I have the ATSF 3751 in Paragon 3 which is just incredible although I made some changes to it like removing the smoke unit out ( which I could do without ) and add additional weight in it and it pulls like a champion.

Very handsome looking Milwaukee road S3 class 4-8-4 model, the 261 is a fantastic representative of preserved US Midwestern steam locomotives.

They fixed "" the stopping problem for no reason "" but over time will the decoders heat up and catch fire 🔥---- now finally adding storage capacitor's but skimped out on details ,,, Noticed nothing for detail on the tenders back beam ,, no air hose's , no steam lines for train heating , ect ..

I have over 40 BLI steam locos with paragon 3 and now four or five with paragon 4. If you have some catching on fire you have other problems.

@@MikesProjectsandHobbiesMC please ,,,SO DO I ,,, I model the PENNSY , 6 - P5a , 10 - GG1's 6 - T1 10 - DEC's 8 - K4's 5 - M1's 6 - J1's 3 - L1's All 24 CENTAPEDES -- BP 60's In cat whiskers === 5 stripes 4 sets of 3 unit sharks - FF16'S AND THAT JUST HALF ,,,,,,, I could go on with numbers also ----- Point is the only one that I have not had problems with are the BP 60 / BF 50 . B.L.I. even had to finely program into their OWN MADE DECODER'S BEING ABLE TO TURN OFF THE SMOKE UNIT ,,, WHICH CAN BURN OUT AND MELT THE PLASTIC BOILER AROUND THE SMOKE BOX ,,, THE P5's had insulated paint under the driving gear box frame to the loco's frame , NOT LETTING THE CURRENT UP THE ONE SIDE OF THE DRIVER PICK UP , ONLY LETTING THE LEAD PILOT TRUCK CONTACT , WHICH ONLY GAVE 2 POINTS OF PICK UP FOR THE ONE SIDE RAIL .. OUT OF THE 6 P5a's alone 1 run good 2 ran OK at best 1 ran like crap 2 DIDN'T RUN AT ALL ,THEY WERE TESTED AT RIDERS HOBBY SHOP IN FLINT MI. WERE I DO ALL MY BISENESS RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX , (( WERE I GOT THEM )) THEY WERE SO MESSED UP DECODER WISE ,, SET THEM ON THE TRACKS , AND THEY SHOT RIGHT OF AT A SCALE 500 MPH .. MELANIE AT BROADWAY SAID IT WAS A MOTOR ISSUE ,, WRONG ----- ITS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE INTO SOFTWARE DECODER BOARDS , ONCE THEIR PC boards components get to HOT , THET WILL OVER HEAT ,, 3/4 OF MY BLI FLEET THE EASILY DOUBLE YOUR'S HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OVER TO TSUNAMI II WITH POWER KEEPERS WITH 1,000,000 TIMES IMPROVEMENTS

I have the Paragon3 version of the 261 along with the Paragon4 1952 Hiawatha scheme version of the 261 and the Paragon4 265.

Paragon 4 is just Paragon 3 with a keep alive. I’ve had to return my Chessie T-1 3 times and replace the Paragon 3 decoder in my Eric Pacific with a Tsunami one. Paragon 3 is crap

The sound is abysmal. All that hype around Paragon4 and it’s improved nothing. Swapping decoders is a pain too.

Have you any actual experience with P4? The sound is fine and changing decoders is not all that difficult. Keeping the smoke unit with another decoder might be a challenge.

@ Brian Anshen if you look up the real engine and here it's whistle; you will notice that BLI is pretty close in its duplication although not perfect. Outside of its whistle the rest of the sounds are not bad.
