I have had the address changer for a few years now. to me one of the best investments, so easy to change the address numbers so say you can run 5 loco's all together without using the dcc system. then jus change the number back to the unit number when done.. also to reset to factory setting, the unit and or the decoder.. so I am sure I will be getting one of these as well. like you said, just so I am not messing with the dcc system itself. Thanks James, a review that is very informative and eye opening,, per say

Clever device. It’s hopefully the first of other similar devices that simplify the esoteric nature of programming DCC decoders. The hobby would be much bigger for all manufacturers if they could dumb this whole process down. The broadway limited device is a good step, but it’s still not for the beginner in my opinion. Great review.

This is a good video that you did. I do like it has the 8 pin plug built in. For most decoders they do follow NMRA standards so what works in one, works on others (looking at you ESU). This will not take over JMRI anytime soon, but is a good cheaper alternate for one to use. Keep em coming!

I have a bunch of old DC stuff boxed up...some day i know im gonna be learning this stuff better - thanks for the intro to it!

Great little video Sir! Well done on showing how it is used! I ordered one myself can't wait for it to arrive.

Got the first run of these from about ten(?) years ago. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Tried it a couple of times, worked as advertised. It's been in the box ever since. 😂

Thank you for the review. I use the NCE Power Cab to change CV’s but I do see the value in this and it seems pretty simple to use. Thank you for the review!

I have been interested in getting one myself, I got a Address version in a box of stuff. I thought I would never use it, but I use it all the time now.
@jlwii2000Ай бұрын
yeah I still have the address one and bust it out if needed. Some locos are more stubborn than others. long time no chat!

@@jlwii2000 Trying to get stuff done, looks like you are keeping busy too. I'm interested in the CV programmer jus for ease of use and having it at the work bench for quick jobs etc. no need to break out the laptop and JMRI for one CV change or update. I'm still here. maybe next year I will be a little mor active after our next operations event in October. AzDesertOps 2024. Thanks and type at you later.

Looks like a good item to have.

I have a NCE PowerCab which I use for my programming, including addresses. I can read the addresses and CV values, and then program them as desired. But it is more expensive than the BLI Address Programmer and the CV Setter. If you are using a DCC system for your layout then these aren't really necessary. But if you are still operating a DC layout, then these devices are useful if you want to change the values of CV's in DCC equipped locomotives that you own, such as sound volumes and sound settings (exhaust type, horn or whistles, etc.).
@thorclemens5286Ай бұрын
Thanks for all you have done for the hobby. I was wondering if you can program consists with the CV setter?
@drgwnutАй бұрын
For me, it would be helpful to have a device that could set start/stop speeds and momentum across several engines. Also related to speeds would be to set consists as a nice to have. I used to write macros when I was a mainframe programmer - that's all these things are - just a way to do something a bit easier (pun intended!)

How does it handle 4 digit addressing CV 17 and 18?
@frankbedАй бұрын
will it work with MTH Proto 3, and QSI ? I ordere4d one but after seeing the video seems a bit slower than using my ESU cab Control.
@jlwii2000Ай бұрын
I haven't tested Proto 3 but they said it will work on all manufacturers.

Is this product a suitable replacement for Decoder Pro?
@yzfmike84Ай бұрын
No, way more and you can SEE what you're changing.
@lesliesavage9229Ай бұрын
You have a NCE Power Cab right there that is much easier to use than that thing. Like you push the program button 4 times, and then select 2. Now you can look at and program any CV you want with your Power Cab, and do it with a keypad. I wouldn't be resetting all your decoders, because some of them reset the sound right off the decoder. Digitrax, which I don't like can program the CVs as well. It's a little clunkier than NCE, but there again you at least have the ease of using a keypad. Just think of all the money you could save by not buying that thing, and use your own NCE Power Cab.
@jlwii2000Ай бұрын
depends on the system and location. I would be more likely to use this at my workbench that is away from my layout. Also some systems (cough cough Digitrax) are a pain in the butt to do things on and I prefer a simple route.
@russcole568525 күн бұрын
@@jlwii2000this will be a good add on for those (like myself) only have a simple room layout using Bachmann EZ command controller. It runs the train's and changes the DCC turnouts, but does nothing else. This is a way cheaper option to say buying a NCE, or Digitrax system
@sparky107107Ай бұрын
oh,, you can set the speed curve easy with that? yes/no ?
@yzfmike84Ай бұрын
Everything is a CV including speeds curves so yes, but you cant see what the curve is on the screen.

Will this work on a BLI Steam Locomotive?
@TobiasL1000Ай бұрын
So if I get this one here in Europe, does it work with our 220V system or will it directly burn down?
@russcole568525 күн бұрын
It takes a barrel connector plug, so I imagine that if you have the correct transformer, voltage, amperage, polarity and barrel size it will. In theory it will work from a battery pack if it takes a DC input

So this makes it easier to set functions of locomotives instead of doing it all on a laptop or computer.
