I like the story Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) told, how every drummer would ask to stand in front of the bass drum and tell how it sounds. Bonham asked how it felt. Ward said it felt like getting punched.

My absolute favorite Led Zeppelin album, and it's been that way for nearly 50 years. There are a dozen or so albums I am compelled to listen to in their entirety when I put them on, and "Physical Graffiti" is one of them. Over all the decades, I've listened to it literally 500+ times and will continue to return to it for the rest of my life. Glad you're enjoying it. It's a sincere pleasure to join you on your journey of discovery...!! 😀

I have the spaces between the songs, the needle pops, from my first vinyl copy imprinted on my DNA . There was a weird thing after this song on mine, sounded like my mom yelling my name, every time I'd turn it down and answer " yeah! You need me??"

Recorded in one take. Incredible. If you want to watch a live performance of this song, try the 1975 Earls Court concert. It followed a long US tour and they were tired, Plant battling the flu, but they still turned out a great performance.

Zep is known for covering a lot of blues songs from way back but is often mischaracterized as plagiarizing. The thing is, blues music was a traditional medium, where folk songs were passed from one generation to another. For some time, there was no such thing as crediting a person or group for a song. Blind Willie Johnson didn't even write the song. He was simply the first to record it, thus Zep not crediting him on the album. Copyright effectively privatized what used to be common property. Example: No one could sensibly claim that Simon and Garfunkel wrote the traditional folk song “Scarborough Fair”, but they did, in fact, copyright the arrangement and they get the royalties every time the song is performed. Big Joe Williams didn’t write “Baby Please Don’t Go” but gets the royalties because his name is on the credits - making up for all the songs he did write but never got paid for. Zep often changed songs so drastically or created an entirely unique song based on a riff or lyric (see The Lemon Song), that it would be hard to tell the original at all without a nod to previous lyrics. If the title and lyrics to Nobody's Fault but Mine were changed, no one would have a clue what the song is based on, since it's based on a blues progression that is extremely common. You can’t copyright Bo Diddley’s shuffle (otherwise The Smiths would owe Diddley money for “How Soon Is Now”). You can’t copyright the chord progressions of 12-bar blues, or a particular guitar lick. If someone had, then no bluesman would be able to play anything without a lawsuit being flung in their direction. This song has many titles and differing lyrics as it was modified and played by artists right up to today in Zep, Bob Dylan, and Josh White, and Chris Cornell.

Why did Jimmy Page use a Danelectro? Used mostly for playing slide guitar, Page's Danelectro is strikingly different from his Les Pauls and his Gibson EDS-1275 double neck. The Danelectro is the quintessential pawnshop guitar-inexpensively built, mass produced, and cheap. This is the same model that Jimmy used for "Kashmir", "In My Time of Dying", "White Summer", and "Black Mountain Side".@@DrVonChilla

@@AliasMark69 I hear ya on the low growl of the Gibson SG. The Danelectro "quintessential pawshop guitar" comment cracked me up, as I've had two over the last 40 or so years, and both came from guitar shop "bargain bins"...!! LOL 😆
