the sad thing is besides sbmm the game is quite literally rigged, they make it harder for you to win, because they give you worse teammates (basically try to kepe you in longer by making you lose over and over again, and winning occasionally) but they also give you wins based on shit to its just rigged and it makes it sad

Thats why i stopped playing the BR completely, like im not expecting to get a random pro player as my random.. but i suck, my kdr is 1.4, my avg damage is 450. Im not totally terrible but i aint no master level player. I get bodied more often than not, but why are my teammates 90% of the time 10x worse than me. While all my opponents seem to have the most godlike teamwork and aim where i just get rolled. Hell best case scenario i clutch up and knock 2 people only to be go down to the third who then casually 1v3s the rest of the team as they run around like headless chickens. They claim sbmm, but idk if it was sbmm should my teammates more often than not be at least as decent as myself? I love the gameplay for apex, imo its handsdown the most interesting fps on the market by miles, currently i only play mixtape and the same shit happens in that mode too but that mode clearly has no real match making other than connection based mm from what i can tell. Like if we do sbmm make it actually good, i hate this big brother matchmaking. Im so over babysitting abysmal players while having to fight off 3 stack of high skill players, its just not fun. If i had other equally strong players then im all for it, lets go. But thats never what happens.

@@deustauries no clue, whats your playstyle? Playing snipers from far will usually net you higher average damage with less kills than playing smgs at close range where you can net kills with the damage. Funny thing is i really like using snipers with 2-4x and just poking teams from afar.

My team played ranked Apex 3-4 nights a week, 2-3 hours each night, for +/- 3 years. After one season of SBMM we were disappointed. Second season, we were turned off entirely and didn't return for a third. Switched to COD and are having 10x more fun. SBMM in ranked completely ruins the point of ranked, and turns it into a grinding simulator. The funny part is, we don't even miss it because we spent two seasons feeling like the game sucked and the dev's don't care or listen, and that stuck.

3-stack teams should never be put into the same lobbies as solos/duos. The difference in skill and capabilities are just immense and not something you can overcome with skill alone. I've said this for years.

Apex does not use SBMM. It hasn't for some time. They use EBMM, which EA has patents on by the way. It is not designed to give everyone fair matches, it's designed to give you the games that will keep individuals engaged the longest. It will absolutely give you dogshit teammates if the game knows you'll put up with it for 2 hours for a win. They know full well if you didn't wait to get the win, you'd jump off earlier. And the numbers and scenarios will change for all players based on what data they collect. Streamers are an interesting bunch since they are playing an advertiser lobby. They want advertisers kept relatively safe from most of the idiocy a lot of people struggle with, so they get lobbies that are good for viewers to consume. It ain't even a game anymore. It's a simulation.

Want to read something interesting? When I was in Diamond in this season I was hoping to have better skilled teammates, like other Diamonds or Masters. The funny part is that I started realizing by asking people their ranks at the time of playing with me as a random, to my surprise there where even Silver, Bronze and Gold players paired up with me as a Diamond! The next day, I stopped playing Apex and ranked. It was all for nothing. How do they even expect me to rank up to masters if my teammates (who are not at fault) are paired up with me in harder lobbies?

I think I unstand what's happening partially. I've been frustrated by the SBMM for several seasons as it has gotten worse and worse, so I've had time to think about it. It goes back to 2 different things they've said about matchmaking. First, their "buckets" they put players in by skill. When you get killed by players SO much better than you it feels bad, so they made more buckets. If we think about it as if there were only 3 originally "low, mid, high" people who were at the edge, always felt off. Now it's like there are 5 "high, high-mid, mid, high-low, low" which in theory would make it play better. BUT. they also prioritize matchmaking times over skill buckets. Which means they will pull from the bucket below to fill lobbies, as it should be pyramid shaped, and there should always be more the tier below you. So the bottom bucket won't see preds, but the mid buckets will get pulled to fill their lobbies all the time as now you won't see people worse than you very often. That also means at higher lobbies you aren't going to see many people who are not used to playing, so all skill levels feel harder and off, and yeah, it's pretty rigged against you. Chances are you are always one of the lower skill players in your lobby.

I've had this happen to me. My situation is I go up against Diamond - Pred teams and my teammates are sometimes silvers. I have the same opinion as Sweet as it is probably better to have it, but it should be tweeked.

They need a rat timer. If they could put a timer in the game that affects your bonus multipler, then they can install a rat timer, and then a trigger system to remove your acc from being able to rank. It's actually not hard to do. Then they could return the game back to s17 ranked.

As I've been saying from the beginning. The rank you're in needs to be the people you're going against. Because if you do good that means you're better than them so you rank up if they don't do good they stay where they're at or go down. Then after a couple weeks or months it all settles out then you finally get to the rank that you're most likely at

I personally only play pubs, and I do extremely well in pubs. With over 20k kills on Octane, I tried solo queueing ranked and at silver 2, I was up against preds, even though I do not play ranked. It got so bad that I had to get my buddies to three stack just to hit gold... makes it so hard for me to play ranked, so back to pubs... I really want to play ranked, but at its current state, its completely miserable with these 3 stacked preds/master players in every ranked game I play. The SBMM is stupid broken.

Why is there SBMM in a ranking system? I am Gold, facing diamond+ players when I should be facing Gold players. Essentially the emblem means absolutely nothing to echelon of ranking. So essentially I am a diamond player but I am in Gold. What the point of playing ranked?

I’m currently in gold lll on console. I lost 400 LP and then saw Sweet’s video. I gave up. I was getting bronze and silver teammates one after another, dying to three stacks. It’s SO close to being completely unplayable. Or maybe it is and I’m just lying to myself because I truly love the game and I don’t want to stop playing, but it’s MAKING me. The game needs some serious love. And that’s saying it in the kindest way I can.

Honestly, I am tired of seeing people complain about sbmm, quality of life issues since season 0 (mainly audio), and ranked changes. No I am not defending respawn/EA I agree it is all screwed up and it needs major change, but if people truly wanted to get respawns attention and force their hand to do something they would stop playing the game. I have only been on the game once in the last 2 and a half months and that was just to check out this last event(didn't even play it just got on to look at the description of it). If all of these content creators and competitive players got together and went on strike saying they would not play again until major changes happen that would force respawn/EA to act and finally listen, clearly all they understand is money and that is why the game is built around addiction and not improving it. Everyone complains about the game but then continues to support it by playing it and handing over their wallets to them so of course nothing will change so why would they change anything when the formula already works in their favor. And before anyone calls me trash at the game or says I need to get better, all of this is coming from a day 1 multi master player with a 20 and 4k and most of the legends. This is just my little rant, take it however you want.

I used to play ranked every season, I could typically get diamond. Last season when they changed this I couldn't get past silver 2 because my lobbies were full of masters and predators. I quit playing since then. It's pointless to sweat my ass off in Silver 2

Its not even only console, its the same shit on pc. You can have the most average stats and games and if you win a single match gg have fun getting rolled by multiple master/pred 3 stacks until you gotten beaten so much the game gives you a break and starts putting you in lobbies that actually feel fair. The SBMM is attached to your I.P address not your account name (and also very likely stores a cookie somewhere) So the server still knows he's a Pred/Masters player. Further MMR decides what your actual level is depending on how well you play in your first few games. There are a lot less smurfs thanks to MMR.

Almost every consumer grade ISP rotates your IP. There is no way respawn locks your mmr to IP.

I don't care if you are a diamond player, if it starts you out in silver then you should be in silver lobbies, it's not like it will be that way the entire season it will be just long enough for the really good players to rank up fast and the average players be in lobbies with other average players and the MMR is not a good thing it puts me in lobbies with master players and I'm just an average player, I still stand by what I said before, it should all be based on your KDR. If you are a good player with a high KDR you will be in lobbies with other good players with high KDR if you are an average player with a 1 KDR or less, you will never have to worry about being in lobbies with 3 stacks or anything else.

This issue is really compounding fast. There is no escape not even mixtape. Majority of players left imo, only play because of how much theyve committed to getting to that point. That being said the game still manages to find lower skilled players to team you up with when lobby difficulties have only spiked. Wattsons right the game is designed to have way more of a psychological effect than you could ever imagine. Todays sbmm is more so a blend of engagement based match making and mmr designed to break you and then throw you a win so you forget the suffering. Oddly enough that occasional win comes less and less even when most of our skill has increased. I think game devs forget pushing hyper competitiveness via match making only creates a bigger match making issue (like what turbo building and creative did to fortnite). When the majority is playing for fun, but fun requires a beyond fun commitment then people move on. Or if they dont move on they start cheating or looking for unfair advantages further feeding the flames.

I took a break from this game for 3 months. Very first game of this season, I get in with the number 451 console pred. And was fighting nothing but Masters and previous Preds. Before this my highest actual rank was D2. I don't count masters after they made it easier. The matchmaking is a complete joke.

I wish I knew about Sweet Dreams Solo Q challenge, his frustration would have been hugely entertaining because I’ve been experiencing the same shit for at least 6 seasons where teammates are not on your level but because you’re a team player and do ok the SBMM algorithm gives you teammates below your level every time. And yes it takes allot of skill in console lobbies where you’re constantly dodging laser accurate beams from every angle of the map on 60FPS

It's not all just who you play against its who you play with, its a total team mmr so if mine is very high it will find two teammates who are very low and collectively we have a high mmr so we get a high mmr lobby, I have a 5 year old sweaty apex friends list with 20+ multi x pred players and the highest any of us are is gold 3... everyone use to solo to d3 then grab teams nobody did that and nobody wants to put together a full stack just to play a gold lobby that's actually a pred lobby.

We sometimes play ranked, we hit master when we tried. But because we almost always play pubs (we are casual), our kd and winrate is actually very high. global I think +-3.5 and 35%. So our MMR is actually as high as it gets, we are not even ranked right now, we would meet preds every time, but we don't really play ranked so we completely miss the playstyle required to play ranked. So right now it is sweating from bronze to master. We don't really have a way to easy into ranked playstyle.

I started playing Apex the first week it came out, and this is the first time I haven't played or even wanted to log in to Apex for more than a month Yes like most players we take time off but this has been the longest downtime for myself, as the Apex ranked system was so bad that I have just decided to stop as in 99% of my games I was always the last man standing in my squad and then to be chased for 10 mins across the map by sweaty masters and preds to try clutch us a few RP is not why I play the game, soI am glad that a streamer has brought to light exactly what ranked is like for a solo player like myself.

Ranked became pointless once they changed the Pre-season 13 system, each ranked used to have a certain skill bracket which actually represented the different ranks accurately (Gold lobbies felt like gold plat lobbies felt like plat) Reseting everyones rank to bronze was one of the worst decisions i think they ever made. As a day 1 solo'q player i'll say matchmaking changed in season 8, i didnt play this season but the next season i could tell the matches felt waay different "Less random"

What Sweet is saying is literally what I've been saying since these stupid changes were implemented in S18. It killed ranked for me a solo queue diamond player. As someone who is by no means a pro and does not have 5-8 hrs a day to play apex there is no way I should be rank silver with silver and gold teammates but in platinum and diamond lobbies. Smurfing was annoying but you don't fix one problem by introducing a worse problem. I've been playing since season 3 and hardly were my ranked games ever affected by a masters level 3 stack smurfing. What you did see more often was the occasional solo queue pred or master level player smurfing because he didn't have his team on or wanted easier games and that was FAR more manageable than current ranked. Now almost every ranked game in silver for me is chalk full of 3 stacks or very good players making climbing just an exercise in who is wiling to hate themselves enough for sit in these lobbies 5-8 hours a day.

9:20 the problem here is that elden ring is a game with a direction and end, it is meant to be played multiple times but you won't be stuck on it forever. Buying a skin in a game that has a defined end would just make you feel stupid in the long run. BRs on the other hand are a continuous source of content and money grabs with no real end, you can hit plat and say hey that's good enough for me and that could be the "end" but as long as you play the game you never have a sense of " I beat the game" so the stuff you buy always feels like less of a waste.

The MMR just makes ranks irrelevant. Im a gold/plat at best, ill have 2 decent games and then im thrown into diamond lobbies. This season is the first season i havent made it to Gold 1/plat 4 since i started in season 13. Its a shame because ranked was the reason i switched from warzone to apex and now im switching from apex to The Finals and even Hunt Showdown as they are more rewarding. Apex goes stale too quickly.

The sad thing is, other than the free season where you basically had to try not to get masters, the highest I've been is Plat 1 for the last 5 or 6 seasons. But I'm constantly playing against three stack, triple masters or preds. So the game is telling me my MMR is masters but what, I wasn't playing enough to reach it before? Regardless it feels pointless having a rank knowing that I'm currently Plat 4 playing against preds, but I could also be in rank masters playing against silvers, if I just played heaps but was worse at the game.

I have recently stopped playing Apex after being a day one player. It's is zero fun to play ranked with all the 3 stack pred/masters. Pubs are also the same for me and I have never got beyond D4! Thankfully 'The finals' is fun to play. R.i.p. apex legends, you were great for a while 😢

Another big problem is no one uses there mic, there's 0 comms. I consistently drop Moore damage and kills then both my teammates put together in over 95% of my games season 20 is my 3rd season ever and I'm better than teammates who been playing this game since vary early on it gets frustrating I thought getting my K/D up would helpe get better teammates but it seems only my competition gets harder, love the fact that for the most part nobody rats in this game but the teamates I get takes the fun out, when I have to consistently carry or gotta 1v3 to not get wiped

HisW has a point and that tactic probably has a longer shelf life but now it's expiring. People are actually fed up and flat out are going to different games for good or barely touching Apex. You want a happy loyal fanbase ie. Valorant, CSGO, League etc. Attentive Devs and companies are rewarded by simply doing right by the fanbase.

I made it to diamond recently.. plat lobbys are so cluttered with people doing whatever they want … so they can’t rank … and diamond people are staying together as teams and actually fighting 😂not ratting .. feels great once you break platinum ❤

I have 11k on Catalyst but I ain't the best player & how i get those kills is because i got loads of free time as i am moving home and its taking months so i don't have a job yet.. I just had time for it but the game thinks i'm the best in the game and i'm put with 3 stacks and nothing else, every poi i go, it is always rushed on non stop and it goes on for too long... I started season 3 and i have never seen a game struggle this bad or be full of issues such as Audio being silent every 4 seconds, bullets going through walls (Even on 30 ping), bad optimization for most pc's, randomly banning players who aren't cheating and they are innocent.. This game changed my life positively in 2020 but it's not fun anymore! I had this game yesterday where a Bangalore slid down terraformer poi and i ran up on her but she looked as if she didn't hear me! I then got her for 144 and she stood still and dashboarded quicker than my phone speed.. I understand why people insta leave now after being downed because the frustration of this SBMM is also ridiculous. They are telling us "the better you are, the worse team mates you'll get but your opponents get harder". What a Respawn move i can't lie

If the SBMM can recognize that you should be in a certain rank based on your skill, then it should also place you in that rank automatically. For example, Sweet should automatically be put in Diamond since its forcing him to play against Diamond+ tier players. Otherwise, SBMM should just not exist in Apex Ranked.

When people say SBMM, its directly referring to MMR. Yes, in its own way, a players rank is a matchmaking system but it depends on what rank you are in that mode. And it doesnt necessarily refer to skill. It can refer to time played, wins and scoring, or other factors that dont actually take skill to do in Apex. Like ratting for example. But the idea of a Ranked Playlist is that you compete with other players within or close to your same rank. Otherwise, what is the point of playing ranked. At that point, theyre separating lower skilled players and higher skilled players into different lobbies within the same ranked playlist. Which doesnt make sense because someone with lower MMR can potentially have an easier time gaining rank. Whereas someone who is more skilled at the game will always struggle because everyone is squadded up and playing aggressively. Overall, Ranked is meaningless.@@damndatscrazyyy940

I’m a peak D2 console player in bronze rn and I’m in games with top 100 preds. PC preds btw. Yes I’m playing cross play pc lobbies but my pc friend peaked D3 with me. We’ve never been anywhere near pred yet we’re facing them. Seems kinda unfair

The strength of skill based matchmaking or recent performance based matchmaking systems is way to high for public matches with no visible rank this truly feels like this isn’t designed to flatten things out and make a fair and balanced match games. It truly feels like a punishment to get good at the game. Remove MMR that is trash 🗑️

what I find dumb abt this is i've never placed higher than diamond 4 and have a negative KD (0.73 as of rn) yet when I got back into it after not playing for over a year no matter what was going on I was always going against masters players as a solo ranked player. I cannot get out of gold 1 because I am just not good enough to be fighting triple stack pred-masters players. which is all I seem to be fighting for god knows what reason. I have like 6.38k games and not even 2k of them are top 5's and not even 300 of them are wins, which yes is embarrassing but I mainly solo this game but as of rn I literally just cant play ranked, its impossible for me to enjoy the game as is. While Ik I can play ranked very slow and get picks to go into the next rank I just don't see how it can be rewarding to do nothing but wait an entire game since placement is more rewarding than actually fighting. Maybe I'm just a dumb casual player who doesn't know anything though

There shouldn’t be any MMR placement for ranked. The lobbies should just be based on the RANK you’re in. It’s literally why ranked has ranks.

This is just proof that apex is literally dead and dying. The experience is literally rigged. If you win, you know what your next 20 games will look like. If you jump off the map 15 games in a row, you know what game 16 will look like. Its just a casino experience. There is no "skill" anymore. The only way it changes is if everyone quits. Exactly, i totally agree. Tho i will say one thing that most people never consider. If you were not playing a BR and playing something like cod or Halo.. how often would you go 15-0 or 20-0 in those games? If you cant go 20-0 every game in halo or cod which pretty much no one can, then you cant expect to kill 5+ people every single game you play. Losing a fight to someone in apex does not mean they were better as a player it just means they won that one singular encounter. But its very clear now days that the match making is clearly manipulated in some way shape or form. Everyone has the same bs experience, you win a game and suddenly your getting obliterated by 3 stacks game after game, and suddenly after getting rolled for an hour or 2. Suddenly lobbies become easier and more fair? And tons of people report the exact same experience, its not just a coincidence. Imo all multiplayer video games now days are not fun anymore. I feel the urge to play because i love online fps, but then i think of the stress and unpleasant experience and i just rather not play and make myself feel like shit because i spend most my playtime getting rolled by people who play all day while 3 stacked. If my randoms were decent i would put up, but 9/10 my teammtes are even worse than i am, and i feel like im pretty average if a bit above average.
