The late Vesta Williams (RIP) 💖 was the only one who came close! She used to sing background for Chaka back in the day and would even sing leads when Chaka was unable to. They would turn off Chaka’s mic and Vesta would perform behind the scenes.

You can tell she still trains her vocals, because I could close my eyes and be transported. She sounds nearly exactly the way she did when I saw her in concert over 25 years ago. I honestly feel like her voice was the same, there was something slightly different about the timing and tempo. Maybe that’s needed for her to sound the same or nearly the same?

The background vocals was massive. I wished Toni Scruggs was up there singing soprano though Trina held it down. Tiffany Lorens range has increased over the years on ''sweet thing'' she is an alto all day. Audrey Wheeler Downing has always held down that Tenor section. Chaka has always had one of the best background vocals and the band REALLY played.
