Gary Cooper is always fantastic!!! A great man on and off the screen! This is a perfect movie!!!

This is such a great scene, especially the first time you watch the movie if you're not expecting it. It's similar to the fight scene in From Russia With Love between Sean Connery and Robert Shaw, the way the edits cut on movement and how it showcases grappling and lethal striking instead of haymakers. Definitely ahead of its time and one of my favorite movie fights!

The first time I saw this fight scene, I could not believe my eyes. It was so far ahead of its time, using real commando-style fighting techniques, so much more realistic than martial arts movies. The tension is fierce, and the gentle melody playing outside the room contrasts with the drama inside the room - - this is a touch of genius. Thanks for uploading this great movie clip.

Gary Cooper never showed us these moves in any of his westerns before or after this movie. Either the OSS or MI6 must have been the consultants on this fight.

This is a groundbreaking fight scene for 1946. This was before most Americans even knew about martial arts.

Trained by actual former OSS operatives for the film. That’s why it’s realistic. Techniques that were really used in H2H combat.

The Manchurian candidate 1960 I think has a similar fight scene that feels brutal and realistic.

Another great aspect of this fight scene was the upbeat joyous festival music continued throughout the action. No overly dramatic score, just the street music that was playing before the fight even started. Gave it a sense of realism
@ricardocantoral76726 жыл бұрын
See, this is what's missing in fight scenes today. They move way too fast. When you slow things down, you feel the brutality. The fight feels uncomfortable to watch for all the right reasons.

From Wikipedia: During the filming E. Michael Burke (the technical advisor) and a fellow O.S.S. agent Andreas Diamond met at Lang's home to discuss various methods of killing someone with your bare hands, and were seen rolling around the floor to design a fight scene with O.S.S. methods for the film. A Warner Bros memo records the fact that the fight scene was the only scene Gary Cooper, who had problems with the scientific dialogue his character had to say, did well during the film.
