Kindergarten Prep from TGTB is what was super helpful for us before starting the level k. It’s not very long (like a mini course) and was a perfect starter!! It’s like $20ish

For me its kinda crazy that you teach your child to read in preschool. I am from germany and here kids go to kindergarten (what you call preschool) until age 6. when they are 6 (some can be 5 or 7 depending on their birthdate) they will start 1st grade. And when they start 1st grade the usually can write their own name but thats it. No letters no reading at all. They might know some letters but they definitely dont have to know anything. So again the end of 1st grade they will know how to read but before they wont read anything. So you showing kindergarten (which is 1 year before our first grade, we have that too for kids that should go to school but arent ready for 1st grade) LA things where they have to know letters and sound them and read words is just crazy to me😂 at that age they should just play

I completely agree with you. I introduce reading and language arts to my kids and if they aren't ready, we wait. I do feel like we push things too early in the United States and it creates a lot of kids that don't like to read and feel like they are dumb. It is really sad.

Hello! I agree with you to a certain extent. My 8yo wasn’t very interested in reading by himself until 6 but my 4yo was very interested in reading so I go him started right when he had his peak interest. Now he is reading at a 1st grade level. I say that if a child shows interest then you should not hold back because of age. It’s not age or grade that’s significant to when a child should learn to read.

I’ll throw in my 2 cents here- I have a young 2nd grader who I unschooled for Kindergarten (she had just turned 5) and during that year we very loosely introduced letters. By first grade she knew hardly any but then we hit the reading lessons assuming she would learn to read by the end of the year. I don’t agree that this happens easily for everyone (reading within one year). It was very difficult for her. I regret waiting so long to introduce letters and lessons bc now she very much wants to read and is frustrated that she can’t do it very well yet. She is also now behind her peers (which doesn’t matter much as homeschoolers). On the other hand, we started letters and sounds with my four year old this year (just turned 5) and he is loving it. It is gentle and playful and we are setting a strong foundation for reading lessons when he is ready and wanting. In my opinion, there has been nothing gentle about waiting to introduce letters and then assuming they will read within a year. For us, that has been stressful.

This is a fun video idea! Funnily enough, we have used most of what you said! I do really like TGATB, but we went with Math with Confidence, and that has been fun. It's pretty gentle, but hits deap concepts. I also haven't used them, but Dash into Learning looks like it has really darling little learner stuff.

Would love to see a video on homeschool funding through charter schools which you mentioned briefly in this video. How does it work? Do you recommend it? Do they decide what you have to teach? Is it available for preschoolers or just K-12? Thanks!

Can you explain the charter a little more? I have heard about it but not even sure what to look up.
