At last. I have actually found a sane 72hour kit that doesn't focus on weapons and gimmicks. I'm currently putting together emergency kits for my grandson and new (step) grandsons, while updating the adult kits I have had since before I got married in the 1980s. Which backpacks did you use? I like the colours. First suggeston I would offer is to weigh the children's packs (4-6yo - 2-3kg; 6-8yo - maximum 3kg; 9-11yo - 4-5kg; 12-16yo - 6-7kg). Use compressed towels/toilet paper tablets rather than toilet paper rolls. Perhaps switch out the heavier items for lighter items, especially if you have to ditch the car - your husband will be grateful, trust me. Swap canned food and jelly/fruit cups for sachets of freeze-dried fruits and vegetables - packs the same nutrients but weighs a lot less and takes up less space. Whistle. Always have one attached to the ring on the shoulder straps or the loop diamond on the front. Also, a small flashlight would boost a child's morale in a scary emergency, such as an Everbright Mini LED or a Riakrum mini pocket. Even a torch projector would be more fun than waiting for an adult to dig out and crank a flashlight. I would recommend glow-in-the-dark Velcro patches and a button LED light for their jackets and backpack zippers. And you didn't mention shelter. SOL (Survive Outdoors Longer) for example, do a great range of tents, blankets and sleeping bags that weigh next to nothing. Not everyone will be lucky enough to reach an evac centre, or even one that has shelters/space available. There's nothing worse than being turned away because they are full. Happened to us twice. Finally, I would absolutely recommend a local topographical map, so that you know where to find water on your journey and a foraging book relevant to your area. Fully enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing.

So you said your daughter really isn’t reading very well yet. Don’t you think since she’s going into second grade you should be looking into why she can’t read yet instead of thinking about typing right now? I don’t see how a child can be successful in second grade if they can’t read well yet. Maybe she is dyslexic or has some kind of learning disability?

Her older sister was the same way and read in her own time and now I can't get her to stop reading. She loves it so much! I am not worried about my 2nd grader reading. She is picking it up at her own pace and she wants to learn to type. She has asked me about it so many times.

Friendly advice. I think it would help you get more views if you got a personal mic. The echo and like room noise can cause less views and subscribers. Just advice as an avid homeschool youtube watcher.

Sometimes! There are different recipes. Some are just on the stovetop, some combine the stovetop and oven and the one I am using has all the cooking done in the oven.

Personally as someone who was never in competitive anything I see the benefit of competitive sports / dance etc for character development. The diligence and application it takes to take it seriously and to strive to do better each time is what I find admirable. That said, my kids are not in competitive sports but if they wanted to pursue something with seriousness I’m all ears!

Yes!! My kids play team sports with the neighborhood kids. They pick the games, they stop when they want to, they disagree and call out cheaters and it’s all in fun. My husband and I are not run ragged, or out late, or missing church.

From a parent who has an older group of public school kids and a younger group of homeschool kids I 100% agree with these opinions. Especially about not being busy all the time. It's amazing what a childs mind can create when they are bored!

Same for us! We’re a blended family and the older three are each in school sports that the other parents support. We don’t at all. Our younger 4 (also homeschooled) will not participate in organized sports.

We sign our kids up for soccer through our rec center. It's so cute watching 4 and 5 year olds running after the ball and trying to score. We signed them up again for fall. They like it so much.

I love your unpopular opinions. I agree with them. My kids are allowed 1 activity each in addition to church activities. That activity can't be competitive or meet more than once a week. We make exceptions during soccer season which are 2 games a week for 6 weeks.

I 100% agree with this. When I was younger, we played just our school offered sports. We played other teams at the same school or did the occasional scrimmage at a neighboring school. Then in high school, we did actual "competition". Sports are taken way too serious for kids at too young of an age. I always feel bad for the kids because there's so much unnecessary pressure. My family did sports purely for fun! I coached for 2 years and stepped away because the parents were too much to deal with.

I had an experience where a lady in my ward (congregation) called me on the phone and was surprised that my children could read! I did not know where to say “Thank you” or “Duh”😂. I feel like others in my area see homeschooling as a “free babysitting service” and they are surprised when a child actually is being taught. People can be very silly sometimes.

Great points made all around! I especially love the socialization aspect. Children learning from other children (in schools) rarely learn proper communication skills. I also agree with the notion that homeschooling is a family effort. My husband I collaborate a lot to get it all done. The mauve color looks beautiful on you😊

For history, I have used Bookshark. I also am with MTH and they pay for Bookshark. It’s a nice program for history because it’s four days a week and uses lots of books. You can buy one level and use it for the whole family or multiple- it depends on your family needs. Thank you for the science ideas. I am goi g to be looking into using TGATB science.

My husband has been teaching my kids (5 girls) basic home repairs. How to replace a faucet, fill holes in the walls, and basic tools. They also know how to remove and replace flooring and helped with bathroom renovations where everything was replaced. He has taught about power tools also. I teach my kids at about 8-10 years old how to embroider or hand sew so they can fix basic holes in clothes and items to make it last longer. Some of my kids will go on to learn the sewing machine, teach themselves how to crochet or knit, and even how to make many different handcrafts. Since we modify most recipes due to food allergies, cooking from scratch, meal planning, and how to look at a recipe and see how to substitute to be able to eat it is another thing we teach when we do cooking.

4 years ago I taught my older kids about politics. We learned how the election process worked. We talked about all the hot topics of that election and both sides of the issue. We learned about the different people running that year. I found a website that you could answer your take on the topics and it would tell you where you land ;democrat, Republican, libertarian, etc. I also showed them the mail in ballot we got and showed them how that worked. We then stayed up election night following the news. We also played a board game called election night. It was one of my most favorite "class" I ever taught.

I also teach sewing and bread baking. During COVID my area got hit and the grocery stores had no bread. We had the ingredients in our pantry to have homemade bread. I would also add fitness, especially for middle school and high school. If kids don’t play sports, it’s still good to get them in the habit of daily exercise.

The practice of mindfulness has roots in Buddhism and meditation, and the term "mindfulness" comes from the Pali word sati, which is a key part of Buddhism. Sati is the first of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment and the seventh stop on the Noble Eightfold Path. The British magistrate Thomas William Rhys Davids translated sati to "mindfulness" in 1881. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqekmIKQlKqUnaMsi=HAEMO9E57IK-zzWD Exodus 20:3-5 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

Hi There, thanks for your video. Do your children actually directly communicate with their homeroom teacher?
@jmorgan1121
@jmorgan1121 Ай бұрын
The only interaction with the homeroom teacher is the weekly reports and I usually do those. I ask my kids the questions and type them up. The homeroom teacher is there if you have questions or concerns, but your kids don't directly communicate with them.
