Follow up: don’t cut ends off the short DuPont wire which goes into the 3M connector. Failed connection. Insert the metal pin into the 3M connector and crimp.

Morning Uncle Frede, I've said it before you make a great teacher!!! 🤗! Great job.

Thanks Grant. I thought the video was one of my better ones. But then #$&@ took back over. 🤬🤬. I tried 4 times over two days to get a sensor installed. Wasted 8 connectors! No power from bus line to sensor. I changed sensor but nope. I tested sensor directly on Arduino, worked fine. I finally decided it must be the cut off male end that was problem. Sure enough, left the little pecker on, worked fine! I added a comment on the video. Lesson learned, don’t cut off your little male part. The $&#@ continued. Put the working sensor into the hole, no sensor trigger. Took it out and filed the hole in track bigger. No trigger. Did this multiple times. No trigger. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Talk about frustrated! Gave up. Went in house very discouraged. Normal. I thought maybe sensor having problem with plastic containers on wire shelf above layout. Tried a fix. Nope. Finally changed the sensor, working fine! I hate model railroading!

I'd need a week's vacation after each sensor install. lol I like that you've got DCC++ running successfully on a Mega.

It’s taken a while but I seem to have it all working. 😀

I winced when you said cut off the male end. Good video. I like your makeshift housing unit for the sensor. Genius. One day I’ll get a sensor. And install it. One day.

Hey we just exchanged replies on another youtuber's channel. Now I stumbled upon yours. Sometimes the internet can be a small world. I know nothing about IF sensors. Would they work if I turned them 90 degs to fit in an n scale track?
@FredE5283 жыл бұрын
Sure can be small World. I’m assuming you could put them horizontal in a building and would work the same. I have not tried this but you would need to test in exact location. I had my garage door open one time and sensors stopped working. Only thing I could determine was they didn’t like the shiny side of the door insulation. Closed garage door and they started working. There’s a distance adjustment but I actually don’t understand this either. Mine trigger at about 1/2” as car or loco goes over them. The JMRI script to work with them is pretty simple. I’ve done video on this. Not exactly such which one as I write this. I’ll post link later.

Wow! Look at you, giving an electronic tutorial for sensors... what’s next, a soldering tutorial? Oh by the way, sorry to hear about your very short male end...
@FredE5283 жыл бұрын
No soldering video! No worries, there will be an extension. 😀

Glad to hear that you and your family are doing well. Yeah, had to bust Fred’s chops a little bit but it was a great video and educational for anyone trying to install sensors.
