I did a project with the first green microwave sensor shown. Worked amazing for sensing people coming into a room or for what I needed it for... to sense people walking down a forest path.... one problem...as soon as the environment around was wet or damp (like rain or morning dew) it was completely blind. I assume what is happening is the microwave signal is being absorbed by the human or wet surface so both send back a shadow....so no movement detected when everything was a shadow. Worked fine in the garden when dry. One to watch out for. Otherwise awesome!

I wondered taht you get a result even in a dry garden. I tried LD2410 line and also RCWL but it fake triggered when the grass or branches is near. Did you finally managed to fix the issues?

@nickolayonischenko3975 Dry garden.. it worked but i can imagine some branches might cause issues. Never solved it. Changed to ultrasonic for the solution.

@@Snagga34 Thank you very much for your suggestions! I tried the the ultrasonic sensor placed 20 cm abowe the ground with some grass and branches and found that i can see the difference between the interference and human precense knowing the distance. Great video! I have a question whats the best sensor you can recommend me that detects humans even in the dark and even if that sensor is moving because i want to put it in my security patrol robot project because we are having a hard time choosing a sensor that can detect effectively while it is in motion
@lohikarhu7347 ай бұрын
Time of flight laser is probably best, as it gives distance and speed, so you could probably subtract out your vehicle speed...ST has some TOF sensors that can track several targets, giving distance and direction, do you could use a bit of trigonometry to subtract out your robot's *velocity", and determine if the detected target is moving either toward, or away from, your robot... important, because you may want to detect only targets that are in motion... Another possibility is to use the TOF sensors to map the area of operations, and look for anomalous targets? Helpful?

Thank you for this video. Just an important correction regarding the mmWave sensor you mentioned. It can’t detect people while not moving. In fact, it’s so accurate it can detect the movement of your fingers! I doubt it can detect a still sleeping person.
@yamitokyoo11 ай бұрын
I don't understand your point.
@yrkalaji11 ай бұрын
I mean it can only detect movement. For example, If someone is working on a computer, it can detect the movement of fingers on the keyboard. But in a sleeping person situation, there is no movement thus it won’t detect the person.
@yamitokyoo11 ай бұрын
@@yrkalaji It's actually tested. mmWave sensor can detect person that is not moving. The signal frequency is 24Ghz that is so high it can detect a single movement even you breathing. It has three signal outputs based on what I saw. First is it detects if there is a person in motion. Second, it detects if there is a person but not in motion, and lastly it detects if there's no person at all.

The problem I found with PIR sensors is that the standard ones are too cheap and unreliable, especially when range of over five metres is required. I upgraded to a Panasonic EKMC1603111 and despite having no adjustability it reliably detects movement up to 12 metres or more. Including vehicles, which is something the standard sensors couldn't do even on maximum sensitivity.

I misread this as “detect people with common sense” and got all excited what questions weed them out. Detecting motion is much simpler.

If I recall correctly, you can change the sensitivity and duration of the pulse on the RCWL-0516 radar sensor by changing the values of the resistors on it. My only complaint about that sensor is it has a wide detection bubble around it, and since they can "see" through walls, you can't confine their detection area to a single room.
@demiurgiac Жыл бұрын
... and for that reason I found it to be of not much use.

BTW, the dome on a PIR sensor is not often a Fresnel lens, except in longer range types ... The dome has multiple small convex lenses, pointing in several directions... these focus the IR in different places, and, as a target moves across the field of view, the "hot spot" moves across the two, or more, pyroelectric sensors, and the difference signal, gated by time (slow-enough changes do not trigger the output...high pass filter), generate a pulse output.

What a cool video. I have been searching for a device that would detect a fuel pump at a gas station. I have a long motorhome and it is hard to judge how far to pull up. Which one of these sensors you mentioned would be best for that application, about a 5 or 6 foot detection range?
@Core-Electronics9 ай бұрын
That is going to depend on where you are mounting the device. The Laser distance sensor and ultrasonic sensors can be mounted on the side of the home and detect when you pull up alongside the pump, they have up to a 12 ft range. If this was being mounted on the inside of the home, the laser can go through a glass window, but the ultrasonic sensor will be blocked. A camera, display and raspberry pi might be another option to watch from that side as you pull upto the pump. Very creative and unique project! Best of luck!

Our demo was using a Pico microcontroller with MicroPython, not a Raspberry Pi computer. The module uses UART though so any tutorial on how to read a UART on the Raspberry Pi will work! If you are looking for how to get it going on a Pico, we have a guide on how to do so here: core-electronics.com.au/courses/raspberry-pi-pico-workshop/#4.2

This is our only obstacle that we need some sensor that works underwater to detect fish and activate the camera .. Do you think i would be able to do this ?

Well, radar doesn't work underwater as radio waves are blocked by water. You will need SONAR instead. Which uses ultrasonic waves instead.

hello, I need a sensor that will detect food movement. we have a farm that has metal flat chain feeders that turn on in mornings to feed chickens. the chain moves and distributes feed. sometimes the chain breaks and the feed stops. is there a sensor that will detect when the feed stops
@Core-Electronics5 ай бұрын
That is a difficult thing to find an answer for without seeing the feeders, you might be able to use a Raspberry Pi and camera and some machine vision to check if there is feed on it. There may be a much simpler solution though (although the machine vision is really easy to get going nowadays!). Feel free to pop a post on our community forums with some images of the feeder with and without feed, we have a lot of maker eyes over there that love this sort of challenge! forum.core-electronics.com.au/
