The walker with the rock wasn’t a mistake. Season 1 actually had plans for some walkers to show a bit more intelligence, stuff like trying to open doorknobs (like Morgan’s undead wife does in the Pilot) or use rocks to bash in windows. With the changes behind the scenes in Season 2, this intelligent walkers thing was abandoned, and it’s been that way ever since.

The walkers early on were based more on the zombies from Night of the Living Dead, which actually were using rocks, opening doors and light jogging. By the end of season 1, they decided to drop them back to standard mindless zombies that just shamble, then by season 11 just explained it away as walker variants.

The show producers acknowledged that the walkers were “smart” in the first season as they were relatively fresh new walkers unlike the walkers we see in later seasons. So the fresh new walkers will demonstrate some intelligence such as lightly jogging after a victim, trying to open a door or even use a rock to smash the door open. As the seasons go on, the walkers will begin to rot away

I think that we can somehow explain walker drinking from a bottle by the de-evolution they encounter through the series, but from the beginning. At opening scene of S01E01 we can see a turned girl that holds a toy, also, when rick enters the city, he can see a walker sitting in the bus, so we can assume walkers at the first months were having a little part of human inside them, like the bus zombie, that propably liked riding a bus, and a girl liked her toy. So assuming that my theory is correct, the walker liked drinking water, and as a walker that was the last thing he remembers.

The walker using the rock made sense. In the early stages of the apocalypse, walkers’ bodies were less deteriorated. They could climb fences and grab rocks and hold dolls because they were newly turned

Absolutely cracked me up in S2 when Dale’s on the lookout on top of the camper and there’s nothing to the horizon. Raises the bins again, see’s a Walker or two a ways off and next thing you know there’s about 50 surrounding the van about 10 ft away Lmaooo

3:30 Daryl is walking into the barn there's no one on sight. Next he's further inside the barn which gave Carol sweet time to approach the barn while he walked that distance. No mistakes there! Same for T-Dog and Andrea. Daryl passed them but what you don't realize is they skip some moments which are not important like, the characters are gathering around which means Daryl may have stopped and T-Dog and Andrea passed him again. You don't need to see what's obvious and close to your mind (you could just guess). These aren't mistakes.

Mistake #1, there is no way a horse would have run into a herd of walkers like that. It would have smelled the death rot two blocks away and stopped dead. I once had a horse balk completely over a dead woodchuck in the road. It would have bucked Rick off and run to safety before it let itself become surrounded and be taken down.

Nah its more than likely a nod to Night Of the Living Dead. There's a scene in that movie where a zombie uses a brick to smash a car window. That or they were trying to show that the walkers had some shred of intelligence or memory left and could remember how to use basic objects and tools (i.e when morgans zombified wife tries to open the door and is seen turning the knob)
