FTWD was at its best in that first season imo. There's just something about the beginning of these things and the gradual fall of civilization. I could believe it if the weakness was a VERY specific small point somewhere in the body that you have to know of and be really accurate to hit or do it by pure luck. But the head? Like c'mon, thorax and head are the two points where you aim when you want to put someone down. For example, in "Battle: Los Angeles" the aliens at first seemed invincible, keeping on fighting regardless of how many holes the marines put on them. Until they actually capture one alive and dissect it, finding that they have a weak spot at the left of where a human heart would be. From that point on, all the characters start aiming there. And those aliens actually had better tech than the humans, used tactics and shooted back. You can't tell me that the same trained military can't nail a headshot in a slow walking corpse.

My problem with the "crashed planes are just part of the landscape" aspect of zombie stuff is that they just... wouldn't be. At all. People dying on planes isn't exactly a common event, so it's not exactly likely that a Walker would just randomly show up suddenly on a plane. Even if it did, and even if it somehow killed everybody else on the plane, they STILL wouldn't be able to cause a crash, because to do so they would have to reach the pilot. And after 9/11, the doors to the cockpit are extremely heavily secured specificly to ensure that hijackers can't force their way in. Unless the plane had a mid-air collision, or the pilot heard about what was going on on the ground and just kept flying until out of fuel and fucked up getting the plane down, it's kind of unlikely that you'd see many plane wrecks just lying around. At airports there would almost certainly be accidents and crashes, but not very likely in the air.

If you're confused about how this ties in with FTWD, the girl and the boy end up surviving the crash and become stranded at sea in a lifeboat. The main cast in FTWD comes across them briefly but abandons them a little bit later. The boy doesn't survive unfortunately. Guys keep in mind the reason why these people are acting so stupid in the situation is because in The Walking Dead universe the concept of what a zombie is doesn’t exist, not in movies, shows, none of that. This is all completely new to them. They aren't going to stop unless they're given a reason to. She even had the opportunity to share what she knew while the zombie was locked in the bathroom but she chose not to. Then, to make matters worse, she didn't say anything about shooting it in the head until it was too late. The air marshall wouldn't have fallen and shot out the window if she spoke up when the gun was drawn. The writers of this show seem to have a problem with common sense. 🤷

First off there is no zombie culture or lore in the walking dead universe. Second, you try telling an air marshal and a flight attendant trying to attend to what they think is a dying man is a zombie...something that doesn't exist in any concept in their world. The encounter was doomed from the start, the asian lady couldn't have done anything other than killing the flight marshal and taking his gun, which shes not a sociopath from what we can see here, so she isnt going to murder a man who isn't turning and isn't threatening her directly. I get the frustration with stupid characters and without them plots would never move forward, you pretty much require an idiot to make a mistake for the plot to progress in anything. If characters were smart, horror movies wouldn't work, they'd just screw off before getting killed leaving the killer confused.

The thing about every zombie movie or series is that the concept of a 'zombie' never exists in the universe of said movie or series. Nobody knows about the 'undead'. In real life, everybody knows what a zombie is and most know what the signs are. A zombie apocalypse like Resident Evil or The Walking Dead could never happen, at least not to the extent that the world ends. Governments would crack down on it so fast, and every soldier around the world and armed civilian would know you have to hit them in the head. But if it's anything like 28 Weeks Later or World War Z, then we're all screwed.

Bro stuff like the Covid pandemic happened and governments arent all seeing and all capable. Every government has a way to deal with such crisis but nearly nothing goes according to plan in those scenarios. The concept and the way it spreads makes a zombie apocalypse extremely dangerous. The soceity would probably not collapse in its entirety but you wouldnt be sitting at home until the military clears everything out in a couple of weeks. A lot of your relatives would be dead, maybe even you and it would take generations to recover from. So you are right on it not being the end of us but we wouldnt be unscathed.

Even 28 days later infected would be eradicated. They’re not even undead. Bullets destroy muscle tissue, organs, ligaments, tendons. Needless to say the concept of headshots only wouldn’t apply. I don’t think there was ever a war where unarmed people charged people with guns and saw victory. Also, the entire concept of the dead moving is more ridiculous than you may think. I understand it’s fiction. But its application to our world falls apart when understanding the fact that a body without a heart pumping blood into muscles won’t move. At all.

your actually wrong, it talks about how this slow little virus became so deadly in the first season. the fact that you didnt need to get bitten, to turn was the real weapon of the virus. just take a moment to think about how many people die to natural causes around the world in a normal day. there was no cure, and in a matter of weeks. people were randomly turning and people who were dying were coming back. hospitals were basically nests for the virus.

This is the best part about post apocalyptic shows. To see the first few days when everything was somehow normal and the first cases started being reported, the news progressively announcing the increase in the number of infected and deceased, the panic in the streets, the people escaping from chaos, the military authorities being surpassed by the virus threat, the supermarkets and drugstores being completely emptied, the medical community desperately working to develop a vaccine or find some sort of cure to the disease etc. The previous and ongoing moments of the emergency are the most interesting ones, the survival is the one which becomes boring, tedious and monotone.

The initial outbreak is so much more interesting. Though in zombie apocalypse scenarios, ive always been more interested in the rebuilding of civilization in a world with new rules, than the interpersonal drama. If TWD had stopped the "we made a safe place! Oh no, bad guys ruined it, time for revenge!" And instead went on to follow the formation of city states and new nations rising up in the aftermath, with walkers becoming weapons/environmental hazards, i would have been so down. The never committed to that though. It was always small scale settlements. Never city state level stuff with standing armies and political intrigue.

FTWD really messed up something good imo. The first season was their best! They should have spent more time focusing on the beginning of the outbreak and kept the original 3 families (Clark, Manawa, & Salazar) intact for longer imo. Just once I want to see a zombie show/movie were the world remembers we've watched decades of zombie movies and instantly realizes what is going on. My 7 year old nephew was watching a zombie show with me and he asked "why don't they know what zombies are?". TLOU is 20 years post collapse, the first half hour of the game is a tutorial that set up Joel and Tommy's relationship and backstories. It was good but ultimately just well executed exposition, wasn't even fun to play. The whole story is about Joel accepting his role as a father to Ellie against the backdrop of a changed world.
