The way i learned to hone. Was i sat down and completely honed two Wade Butchers until they had absolutely zero life left. Then I knew ok, you don't do it that way. But in the middle 90s there weren't many people to ask you just had to do and learn from your mistakes and success. Thanks for taking us along 👍.

In a way, you may have been better off having to learn on your own. When honing razors became more popular, so did the b/s, lies, and fabrications. Hah, Happy Honing, Happy New Year!

I always enjoy your videos. Glad you said it about multiple sessions on same step. I find I often repeat Botan a few times until it feels right. Good stuff. Thanks for what you do.

Only done is done. It's not done until it's done. Has nothing to do with counting or hoping. If it needs more, then it gets more. Happy Honing!

i followed your feedback principles and im honing well and the shave is good. but the razor has a more and more pronounced frown i dont think im doing anything wrong. stones are leveled well and the save is actually nice because the razor hugs my face. dont know if i will tape it to correct the frown or not. dont really know why it has such a frown. ever have this problem or know what im doing wrong. thanks keith your the man.

No way to know what you are or are not doing right/wrong... Typically, normal honing doesn't create a frown. If you got the razor with a frown and the geometry is bad then continued honing would exacerbate that issue. Can't diagnose long distance though. Best of luck turning the frown into a smile!

Stiction has been the most misused word in the honing community for years, no worries, there will be others. Cool video Keith, felicidades!

Thanks Nelson. Yeah, there's a ridiculous amount of 'trying to sound profound' out there. Happy New Year!

Great video as always. What helped me was using the same stones and razor and shaving as much as possible. Once I figured out my kit and had consistent shaves, I was able to explore other stones (coticules and Arks) and razors with more confidence and good results. Your videos (and gear) have been invaluable; however, as you say, honing and shaving were key.

Yah, limiting potential variables is a key move toward success. Guys trying to learn 5 systems on 50 razors never get too far. Happy Honing !

This is a rabbit hole I will go down one day, but not yet I find these stones to be absolutely gorgeous and that is usually an indicator that my bank account is about to suffer. On that note - love my new firehose strop. Merry Christmas to me!

amazing content thank you so much for this video! I love your no bulshit approach , worst part about this hobby is all the smoke people blow up your ass. again thank you for sharing !

Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! Yeah, the so-called "community" is loaded with more b/s than ever. Probably because there are more people involved now. Sucks for them, I guess. I choose happiness over the nonsense. Happy Honing !

The last 5 years has seen an exponentially greater number of bullshit artists pawning themselves off as honemeisters and hone gurus. As you noticed, they just copy each other and try to spin the info as though they came up with it on their own. Most of them can't hone worth spit either. All they wanna do is argue and measure each other dicks. Luckily, I don't have to shave with their razors. Happy New Year!

My tenyou is quite a bit softer than mejiro. They feel different under the blade as well. I like them all and my best results have come from BTMK then finisher nagura. But I am also lazy and will go BM (ho ho) then finisher with good results. On a rainy day with a pretty razor I will run the gamut.
@KeithVJohnson118 күн бұрын
Generally, most but not all of the time, Tenjyou will be softer than Mejiro but not always. There are no rules so we can pick and choose what to do each time - keeps things from becoming monotonous. Happy Honing!

I have a feeling you will say something along the lines of "I don't know what you need but I know what I need" It's a flavor thing, depends on the day and what you want to do but i'll watch the video and come back here once i'm done watching the whole thing! Cheers Keith

Practice makes perfect, I like how you always preach about putting in the work and learning how to hone by doing. I'm trying to move away from all the armchair experts wanna be scientist in online spaces.
@KeithVJohnson119 күн бұрын
The matter is not so much flavor but a matter of need. Honest need based on honest knowledge based on honest experience.
@KeithVJohnson119 күн бұрын
I don't think I preach but I do stand fast on my principals. The online honing discussions have degraded horribly. People do not read or listen to learn anymore, the majority only listen/read so they can respond.
