This is what I was looking for. My pump was pretty tight and I couldn't get the set screw to come out. After much messing with trying to remove it, I tried putting two screwdrivers on either side in the slots, applied a bit of even pressure and voila!!!!! Wasn't I surprised to find the set screw was missing! Either it was never in there, or it loosened and came out while I was using the washer. The old key is corroded in the slot. I used some rust remover and steel wool to clean the shaft. Then applied a nice coating of anti-seize and installed the new pump. I'm all set and ready to start pressure washing again.

It is called electrolysis and happens when you have two dissimilar metals together. Grease works fine as that's all anti seize is, just gray grease with graphite, copper or other metals mixed in. (copper mix may be copper colored of course)

try holding the trigger down on the gun while your pulling your engine recoil starter. Pressure build up can make the engine feel harder to start. holding the trigger down can help

I just replaced a pump going from a worn out 4k 3.5 to a new commit 4k 4gpm and it seems like the pressure especially when using my service cleaner got worse. Was I suppose to prime the pump some how or something? Or should I turn the unloader all the way?

I've never had the mounting bolts seize on so I don't do that. If your pump requires a set screw I would definitely recommend replacing it AFTER you tighten the mounting bolts.

I bought a huahe petrol jet wash 208cc 5.5hp it's got 180bar what pump could I change it to to increase the bar rating, I bought it from lidl it'd a Parkside but the engine is huahe but the carburettor is Honda the pump is small compared to engine any suggestions on a decent strong pump that will fit, cheers

Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Do you ever want to get them out?? Without breaking them? You have water poring over them and electrolysis locking it tighter over time. Now you put glue in the mix and let it sit for years. One day you need another pump and you snap a bolt off in the motor. You just took an easy 4 bolt job and made it 100's of times harder. Aluminum motor block and steel bolts will self lock over time with a white powder you don't need Loctite.

Yes, that red cap is a "shipping cap" and isn't breathable, it absolutely MUST be replaced before attempting to run the engine with the pump attached.

JN equipment. So how do you put that screw back in. After you slid pump on that shaft can you then turn it upside down again and pulll rope slowly to show "set screw" hole to put back in ? Or will that mess up the key placement inside? Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Im starting to see leaks of oil around the pump I use it seven days a week 3 hours a day fpr the past 3 years . and sometimes it seems to starve for pressure. I think its easier to just replace the pump then mess with the internals. thank you

You just have to carefully line the threaded hole on the pump with the view hole and carefully re-install the set screw. Once the pump is correctly been slid over the shaft with the key in place, the set screw will not move it, it will only further secure it to it's current location. Oil leaking from the pump body(not the brass head) could be either an oil seal kit, or something as simple as the O-ring behind your oil view port. Degrease the machine, and locate the leak to figure out where it's coming from. Now as far as losing pressure that's usually the seal kit aka water seal kit. So it seems like you have a lot going on repair wise with this pump. Maybe a new pump would be more cost effective. Good luck.

The set screw that holds the key only has to be loosen. It really does not have to be removed. That makes easier to get it tight again after the new pump is in.

+Jesse Benjamin sounds like it's seized on. I've had success with using 2 pry bars, one on each side of the flange and working it off carefully. the only thing you really need to make sure you don't do is crack your engine block by pushing against it to hard.

Mine would not come out at all, no matter what I tried. I had to demolish the pump with a sawsall, then I used a grinder to cut the pump shaft. The pump shaft is harden steel so a sawsall will not cut it off. A word of caution if you do this. Make sure you do not grind part of the engine shaft!!

This is a slightly confusing statement.... IF your pump is belt driven, then the pump and engine shaft do not ever touch and can't be seized together. rob watt Good Question!Not all pumps have the spot for a set screw to be re-installed. If possible you should definitely re-install the set screw or locking screw but if your replacement pump doesn't have a thread for it to be reinstalled then it's not necessary. Most COMET brand pumps do not have a spot for the set screw while most CAT and General Pump brand pumps will have that set screw required. Thank you for your comment!

adjust the unloader spring it is like a air compressor water trap with the valve you turn in to build pressure. Same thing just hydraulic.

You can usually pick up a key at Small Engine Repair Shops or lawnmower repair shops. If not try a local hardware store. They should be relatively cheap. 11- 13 hp use 1 inch key, 5 - 8 hp usually take a 3/4 inch key.

I found a good kit on amazon that has an entire assortment of keys for $10, I think 50 keys total for all engines. It's finally working now so happy!

Many pumps will already have pump oil in them, if your pump doesn't (CAT pumps do NOT come with oil) then you'll need to add pump oil to them. Each manufacturer makes their own special blend of pump oil but at it base form pump oil is a non detergent 30 weight oil. As far as the amount it differs pump to pump usually there is a "site glass" where you can see the level of oil in the pump, you'll want to fill the pump with oil until the oil reaches the center point of the "site glass".
