When I was at the UofA we used to drive up A mountain and drink beer and listen to the radio. Stations from all over the country would come in.

My Grandmother lived at the end of Congress up on the hill from the time I was born until 1970. There was a big window in the front of the house that we would watch the monsoon storms from.

That's not a river in my opinion, it's a wash. I'm from Washington State and the Columbia River doesn't show up when heavy rains start and then vanishes when it dries up, the Columbia River has been there for the 47 years I lived there and has been and will continue to be there for many many more years. So sorry, but they should call it the Santa Cruz wash.

It was a river when it was named. Poor environmental protection is a factor in the loss of flow.

While it’s cool video, it’s clearly a channel or canal. Water flowing in a waterway is not a flood. It’s actually preventing flooding by collecting and conducting the water away.

Pretty sure it’s actually just a dry riverbed, doesn’t look man-made, and in the title it says “Santa Cruz river”. Because there was no water flowing prior to the rain, I’d still consider this a river flash flood.
@LisaFaiss

They are referred to as flash floods because these are generally dry washes that can rapidly turn deadly in the Southwest. This IS a mild flash flood. I was at the top of Mount Lemmon which feeds into this wash a decade ago. At the high point of the mountain we passed over a tiny tributary with a trickle of water. Fifteen minutes later we passed back over it and it was raging and knee deep. This same storm swept down through Sabino Canyon not too far away from where this shot was taken and killed two hikers. They are flash floods and to be respected. Many vehicles are swept away by these storms and many lives lost. Take them seriously. This is not a channel. It is one of Arizona’s largest rivers, though drought is making it go more underground and dry much of the year.

Consider the fact that homes washed away. ...this is a flood. Not a canal. Real footage of the Santa Cruz.. But then again, there is always one who's " smarter " then the rest. Good luck ty. Stay out of river basins arroyos and never golf during monsoons...😇

@@masterofpuppets5072 Thank you for mentioning other states that experience monsoons as I only know Arizona does. When I moved to Tucson from Westport, Connecticut, in January of 1972, I had never heard of them.
