For those who love this clip, don’t forget to appreciate his ride cymbal beat when he’s not soloing. No other drummer I’ve heard in the history of jazz drumming sounds like it. He has a very light touch with a slight lilt to his swing feel. It’s gorgeous. His time keeping is just as unique as his soloing.

Ive heard the name but have never seen or heard him play that i was aware of. I believe i have a new drum hero! What an artist! Still love my Krupa and Rich and such but this guy is right there with them, legend!

After all these years I've still not heard - or seen - a better drumming performance, Jo is a true artiste. No thrashing of the drums for him - he builds a story. I rember seeing this on the television programme Jazz 625 when he was playing with the Coleman Hawkins band in a track called Caravan - this solo stood out straight away. Great stuff.

Jo Jones mixed flash, sizzle, and showmanship with legitimate, crisp playing. Don't you love that extra floor tom on his right side? He really kicked the early Basie band. He was a very fine drummer... an extraordinary artist.

My drum teacher introduced me to many great drummers including Papa Joe. I went to him wanting to add some variety to my self taught style and after telling me everything I was doing was wrong we blasted through rock and blues in a few months and then it was onto the all time greats. I am a punk who can swing 😁.

When Big Sid Cattlet tossed him the drumsticks in Jamming the Blues in '45 Jo Jones was anointed heir to the crown . Big Sid don't make mistakes.
@minkoiliev52573 жыл бұрын
Big Sid Cattlet, he was a big deal, he hid his incredible technical skills as a real musician, even Joe Jones was aware of that, Bernard Rich also knew who he was dealing with, and he had a very serious respect for sid- that's a fact. In fact, perhaps the best drums solo in jazz was that of 1947 in Boston.
