They are beautiful Jo. Excellent close views of the Purple Gallinule and the tuber pulling shot is wonderful. Was lucky to see them in action in Florida and will never forget their talents or their beauty.

As a youngster, in upstate NY, I was happy to observe the American Bittern in a deep swamp that I was able to access with my boat. I also love to watch our native Belted Kingfishers capture their prey only a hundred yards from our doc. Thanks for showing us the beauty of the Purple Gallinule.

I identify with the pleasures you mentioned. I have a movie up about that Bittern that you might want to watch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fF6tlWCYYrdpa5o

Thank You. I certainly did enjoy it. I suffered from quite profound hearing loss for about 70 years. The only birds I could ever hear were Corvids, ducks, geese and (hammering) woodpeckers. The last couple of years has been more than thrilling, as I can now hear most songbirds.

riverbender my husband has been a serious birder for forty years, and he can no longer hear Chickadees or Chimney Swifts. I’ve been trying to convince him to get a hearing aid. So far no success.

Sorry to hear of your husband's hearing problem. I tried many hearing aids over decades with little real improvement. I encourage him to find a competent Audiologist (who follows best practices as detailed here: kzbin.info/door/pikvbsbLd6tMcuN7AEJ-1A The really great news is that the technology now exists to create miraculous improvements in hearing. The trick is finding the right provider.

Nice video, Joanne. Some time back, there was news that a purple gallinule had been spotted somewhere in eastern Canada, out Newfoundland way, or somewhere in the maritimes. It had flown off course during heavy winds.. I photographed a a sora, which are from the same family...

Hello Jo Alwood, I remember commenting before about the blue color not being from pigment but actually is structural coloration. Birds have evolved to have feathers that masterfully produce structural colorations. You might check into it and in your next video featuring a flamboyantly colored bird touch on the concept as it truly is a wonder of nature. Hope you are well and healing up as you should! :-)

WorldScott I didn’t remember that you said that, Scott, but I knew about it. I think it’s true of Bluejay feathers. You’re right, I should mention that sometime when it’s appropriate. The reason I chose to remake this movie - and it’s the last remake, next weeks movie is original-is that this one posted at 320 P or something like that; it looked blurry. This gave me an opportunity to re-post the film in 1080 P. Healing is happening but very slowly. I’ve hired my granddaughter to help me with filming and editing, since she couldn’t find a summer job and needs tuition for the fall. It’s been interesting to try to get someone who’s indifferent to birds and horrified by bugs to alter her attitude. I am enjoying the challenge.

What a surprise! I wouldn’t expect one to show up in Ohio, but once in a while, they do wander out of their normal range. Aren’t you the lucky one?! Especially since they are such unusual, really cool birds
